As some of you might have seen, Retro announced the steam page last night/today and revealed that I had been making some screenshots for that purpose. To make my task easier, Retro and Samool helped get me set up with the tools I need to be able to make them, and so over the past couple of weeks I have been traveling around the various servers admiring your guys amazing creations and taking screenshots of the ones that felt especially picturesque. Retro already revealed some of them in the Steam page, but I thought y'all would be interested in seeing the rest of the final ones I came up with, together with what was the name of the deed and what server it was on. Below, are just a few samples. There were 41 in total. Here are a few samples, but if you want to check out all the rest, you can do so from this link: https://www.andrea.net/wurm_shots_fixes/forum/

We're aware of this as an issue, and will be introducing something to help narrow it down on bigger servers! Stay tuned.

So I've gotten some people sending me private messages about those screenshots and the messages seem to have a common theme. Some people are wondering why their deeds were not chosen or else they're asking me to go and take screenshots of their deed. So before anyone else sends me a message, let me just explain a few things to save everyone's time :). People seem to be under the impression that deeds or designers were chosen to be showcased. This is absolutely not the case, and quite frankly it is not the purpose of the screenshots either. The purpose is to show what a pretty and diverse game Wurm can be through random pictures of the game regardless of whether or not they have deeds or houses in them. I did not go out seeking "the most beautiful deeds of Wurm". Absolutely not. If I saw an interesting deed during my explorations, sometimes I used it as a prop for the pictures, sometimes I didn't. Whether or not it was "huge and glorious" or "simple and cozy" had little to do with whether it was "picture worthy". As we can see in some of those shots, there are some very basic simple houses in some of them, but they still make a beautiful shot. I explored the lands completely randomly without any plan and I only stopped if I spotted a pretty scenery (regardless of whether it had a deed in it). I have no idea who owns those deeds, nor do I know who designed them The owners of these deeds probably have no idea that their beautiful places are being even shown in the screenshots, but I guess one of these days they will find out! 😄 Let's face it, most folks feel very proud of their accomplishments in Wurm including myself, and I'm sure everyone would love for their deed to be showcased on the Steam page. But to have singled out particular deeds would have been unfair to others. Which is why I didn't include any shots of my own things either and felt that the fairest way to go about this is to just explore randomly and take shots of whatever I stumble upon. I hope people can understand this. ❤️ My task for the Wurm team has ended for now. But I might make more screenshots another time and if that does happen, I will be using the same approach.

Weeks ago I made a post about it, and was told they will monitor it for a week.. never heard back, no replies, lag is still there for many people. 20s spikes sometimes less, at times chat doesn't even go through after the spikes end. Can we get some word on what's going on or being done about it? I for one am tired of nearly walking off hills or into the lava pit on our wand island.

Separate salt from salty water in Wurm is not sensible. Currently, if I understand it correctly, one can boil salty water in a cauldron and recover both salt and water separately. I would understand boiling it dry and recovering salt only, but separating and recovering the two is a distillation process, and Wurm does have stills with their 2 containers, for the distillate and the residue. I would suggest that distilling water allows recovery of both salt and water, but simply boiling in a cauldron should result in zero water. Of course, this would all be more relevant if salty water was in some fashion different to fresh water apart from the ability to recover salt. For example, salty water should be unable to fill the thirst bar fully, or should reduce stamina or nutrition or hunger bars. On the other hand, it might be better at tempering. It would be good to have a dynamic where fresh water has a reason for existing beyond "you can't boil it for salt" and salt water has a better reason than "you can boil it for salt".

+1 It might encourage people to learn the fine points of combat besides fighting on autocombat and afking. Some might even get interested in pvp . Can't see any downsides to this.

Lunar Order Academy is Recruiting! The Grandmaster of the Lunar Order, Alkhadias, does not currently have the time to manage the daily running of the Academy any longer, but with his assistance we have figured out everything necessary for me to take over the day-to-day management of the settlement. And so we are inviting Wurmians from all lands, newcomers and veterans alike, to join us in our mission to build a better Xanadu for all! What is the Lunar Order? The Lunar Order is a close-knit community of players based in southwestern Xanadu. Well before I was invited into the ranks of the Lunar Order, its members were braving the elements and dangers of this wild continent. At our height, Grandmaster Alkhadias led our forces and many other fearsome warriors to slay the mighty Green Dragon that appeared in the hills of eastern Xanadu, a titanic struggle that I could only witness from safety. And yet, like the waning moon the light of our community faded, pulled apart by cruel fate. However, just as the waning moon will wax in full brightness once more, it is my hope that the light of the Lunar Order can return to Xanadu! What is the Academy? The Lunar Order Academy is a home for those new to the shores of Xanadu, those seeking a community that will give them a place to get settled, learn about the world of Wurm, until they are ready to go out and make their mark on it. It is our hopes that the students of the Academy today can be the heroes and monument-builders of tomorrow, and that the skills they acquire will one day be of service to the Lunar Order in our quest for prosperity and justice. But anyone who needs some friendly neighbours and can treat other people with dignity and respect is welcome at Lunar Order Academy! What does the Lunar Order Academy have to offer? Public amenities include a forge, a kitchen, beds, and more for those who need them. Public resources, including farmland, animals, a mine, and a nearby lake of freshwater. Plots for personal housing: 6x6 or 7x5 A highway connection! A casual social structure with ranks to climb; rewards for promotions are under consideration! A supportive and cooperative community interested in seeing you get ahead! Rank and Title in the Lunar Order Being friendly and liberty-loving people, the Lunar Order is not interested in people looking for excuses to boss other people around. But recognizing distinguished service in the Lunar Order is also important, and so we maintain a small collection of ranks and titles that members can achieve. Someone who has just joined the ranks of the Order is a 'Lunar Recruit'; they will soon be asked whether they would prefer to progress down the Civil Path or Military Path, depending on whether or not they would prefer to contribute their fighting abilities or other services to the cause. Choosing one path does not prohibit you entirely from the other, simply expresses a preference. While switching between Paths is also possible, one may need to start at a lower rank in the new Path if their skills in that field are significantly lower. There are some rough guidelines regarding necessary skills that are included below with the appropriate ranks; for any rank above the first on either Path, the relevant skill level can be demonstrated with an equivalent Title. But a more important part of advancement within the Lunar Order is dedication to our community and quality of character in general. And so, advancement within the ranks of the Lunar Order will be based mostly on the recognition of your peers. Anyone who wishes to advance to the next rank in the Lunar Order must have at least three members of higher rank supporting their promotion; members of equal rank can also support a promotion, but their vote effectively counts for half. Finally, members of the Order who are opposed to your promotion are allowed to vote against it, effectively canceling out a supporting vote. This system is intended to provide an incentive not only to make friends among your comrades, but also to avoid making enemies. Ranks of the Civil Path Lunar Settler: the entry rank of the Civil Path Lunar Citizen: a member of the Civil Path who has proven their commitment to the community, and has demonstrated moderate skill in some trade or profession (50+ in a non-combat skill) Lunar Paragon: an experienced and distinguished member of the Civil Path, with noteworthy skills in a peaceful trade (70+ in a non-combat skill) Ranks of the Military Path Lunar Warrior: the entry rank of the Military Path Wolfsguard: a member of the Military Path who has proven their commitment to protecting the Lunar Order, and possesses moderate combat ability (50+ Fighting skill) Lunar Knight: the elite warriors of the Lunar Order, with widely-recognized fighting skills (70+ Fighting skill) The Lunar Order Council While largely inactive as a body currently, these are the leading members of the Lunar Order. If and when decisions must be made collectively for the entire Order, these are the individuals responsible. Aside from the Grandmaster, the members of the Lunar Order Council are similarly split between the Civil and Military Paths; the Military members are appointed by the Grandmaster, while the Civilian members are elected by the members of the Order as a whole. At this time I don't plan on trying to fill the inactive positions, though I might do so if our numbers increase to the point that it would be beneficial. Active Membership Alkhadias - Grandmaster: founder and leader of the Lunar Order; the final say on pretty much everything Allanah - Lunar Scholar: chosen representative of the Civilian community, and also responsible for seeing to the needs and education of new recruits Inactive Membership Lunar Priest: another representative of the Civilian community on the Council, the Lunar Priest sees specifically to the needs and training of other priests; if we ever get to the point of having more than one or two priests, maybe we'll have a use for this position again. Lunar Paladin: Highest-ranking member of the Lunar Knights, commander of the Lunar Order Military; primarily responsible for planning military matters Wolfsguard Commander: second-in-command of the Lunar Order Military; responsible more for recruitment and training ~Glory waits beyond the horizon! Join the Lunar Order today!~

Alliance celebrated a birthday by sparring and getting drunk, and it got me thinking, it'd be fun to see some sort of rank added for spars and/or duels. Nothing attached, no bonuses (unless devs decide to), but just a rank for unique players fought and the win/loss record. Each player would only count once in a given time period or would only ever count once period. Just a fun statistic that could show when examining yourself or others. Whatchya all thing? [19:33:18] A body. [19:33:18] You are from the Freedom Isles. [19:33:18] He is very strong and has a good reserve of fat. [19:33:18] Rank=1000, Max Rank=1013 [19:33:18] He has sparred 152 players and has a record of 113 wins versus 39 losses.

Ahh, the snow all over the amazing landscape. It really was an incredible sight, and then it was suddenly gone too soon. Was discussing with friends how beautiful is was, how much easier it was for them to get around, etc and then suddenly it was gone. Just curious if it is totally random how long it lasts because it seemed like last wurm winter, the snows and serenity lasted a lot longer than this one and I for one and I know others would love to see it return again before another 3 real life months. Just my 2iron :) Have a great day!

I don't think many people can paint wurm as beautiful as you can. I'm sure these screens will bring an extra chunk of people into Wurm

Aw thanks Finn Yes Steam was the original reason for those screenshots, together with making better ones for the loading screens. So you'll be surely seeing some of the shots for loading screens later on. And the Wurm guys picked their favorites out of this batch to add to Steam, they will probably be adding more of them later.

I can rule that out in my case - definitely download speed is much lower than usual (normally it gets up to 960MBit/sec) bit ping and overall speed are good... also the lag started well before the major lockdowns.
  24. 1 point
Oh good eye, I'll look into that right away! Currently also looking into this severe lag issue, as it is ridiculous that there is this much already. No one is even online! It took me several moments just to unhitch the horse from my tent. o.o

To be fair, it was stated that no GM intervention was used on this map. Which typically means there's no "Safe Zone". At least in the very early days anyway, considering no one is very skilled to even build a small hut let alone a safe place for spawning in. While I agree it's annoying that foraging hasn't grown in yet, there are a few tiles where it is possible to do so. I've been lucky enough to find some cotton and other items on my trip across the map. o.o Also, while I can understand that this is stupidly frustrating and my heart goes out to you for the struggle. This is how Wurm is, too. Right down to the Official Servers of Wurm Online, or at least how it used to be before it got soft.. Haha! I will try to put some effort into getting something safe started for Spawning today, now that I've had some sleep. It's time to start working on skills anyway. Be thankful the spawning in water bit had been fixed by the time you logged in, the rest of us were ocean bound on login. HAHA!

even on smaller (regular) servers this is an issue.. looking for those traitors 4 hours and not finding it.... or finding it on the top of the mountain theres no way to access... honestly, id rather dig 50 items than traitor missions... at least make these traitors environmental spawns.. like seals/turtles would only spawn near the water coastline, deer spiders - forest, bears - rock or so.. its doesnt have to be easy, but it must not be pointless time wasting either..

That would be a really cool idea tbh. I always loved the model for Sword in the Stone in the NW area of Chaos and the artifacts could draw some visual inspiration for that.

No, they are not. They are suggesting that Freedomers can create own textures, as alliance or otherwise, which is not a feature. Don't be obtuse. What you are proposing is an alternative way of achieving the same goal. At which point I have to ask, what do you think of the Crow Kingdom? Oh right You were totally fine with a suggestion gatekeeping PMK stuff further so they can exactly not do as you suggest here. So, would you be fine with freedom banners if this had become a thing or are you just laughably hypocritical? In any case, the constant "you can already do it, except you cannot, really" is a poor rebuttal that is way too often employed on this forum. There are way better reasons why Freedom cannot have the level of customization as PMKs do, which stem from the vastly greater diversity this would spawn. There is the technical issue that MrGary mentions, and perhaps the aesthetic concern, though that seems like a stretch if the entry price is as high as on Chaos. The dev team would also simply not be able to keep up with the vetting process. I do recall a suggestion in this general topic for Freedom to not be able to submit a fully customized texture, but to choose from a primary/secondary logo with color modifications as many other MMOs do, which was also positively received, even as a "better than nothing". No submission process required, and no reason to gatekeep it further than some creation fee. Give an option to disable Freedom custom textures so you can enter an impalong without your dusty old GPU getting a heatstroke and I see a reasonable compromise.

    1. Is there a map that might show clay better? I cannot see any clay locations on the map but that could be due to not being great resolution. Looks like a good map otherwise. (are those small scattered white spots, perma-snow?) Is it based on one of the custom maps published here on the forums? (which allows for better examining for details like clay etc) 2. Understanding you can't be precise, is 'Coming Soon" most likely to mean a) later today b) sometime in the next 72 hours c) maybe possibly this week d) sometime this month. 3. Is starting area natural untouched wilderness (players can cooperate together there if they choose) or are there any startingresources (public mine with iron, clay & tar, templar guards/tower, etc) 4. Do crops rot? Is there a way to know when it is "off season" for crops?

Global warming. Actually, I find the winter effects make it much less immersive for me, because it is even less like anything I see around here. The trees are odd enough, to me, but we do have conifers and oak, and at least in my region citrus trees. Would be good to see the odd ironbark or cabbage gum, though. Aaah, after a big storm, all the grey peeling bark is gone and the trees are a glorious reddy-orange (the trunks, not the leaves). If Wurm had an antipodean-themed server, I would move there.

Quick update as folks have been asking. So we had a rather rocky start to Jackal being in AWS. We picked too small of an instance size to start with. Samool made some server-side optimizations to help with a bit of lag and resource usage. There were configurations required to run a production-level Wurm server that did not show up in testing. This lead to crashes, lag, and more crashes. Jackal couldn't remain up for more than a day without issues. Fixes for all this went out earlier this month, but then we had a rather rocky update last week which resulted in several restarts - not enough time to measure performance and stability of Jackal to any reasonable degree. Our next patch is scheduled for this coming Thursday, which will be over a week of up-time for all servers - including Jackal. That will help us determine if we're stable enough to bring Celebration into AWS. If we're not, then we'll consider other options for the server, such as relocating it on the Hetzner side of things to see if it's hardware.
