Recommended Posts

Game Rules
These apply to all servers

Spoiler

Wurm Online provides a complex social environment with many different people.  These rules help keep the game running smooth while allowing you the freedom to enjoy the possibilities within Wurm Online without spoiling the experience of others.  These rules will be periodically revised to reflect changes in Wurm Online.  It is your responsibility to be aware of these rules and subsequent updates.

There is no discrimination between premium and free accounts with regards to the rules and any penalties imposed will be determined on a case by case basis.

Wurm Online may suspend, modify, terminate, or delete any player account at any time for any reason without notice. Most account terminations or deletions are the result of violations of the EULA or game rules. Accounts terminated or deleted will not be reactivated for any reason.

The following rules apply, but are not exhaustive and serve mainly as guidelines.

A ) You may not openly insult, berate, or 'verbally' abuse any Wurm Online Team member via any method.
B ) You will obey any directive or instruction given by a Game Master.

Trade Chat Etiquette

Spoiler

Trade Chat is for Buying/Selling your in game goods or services or checking their prices. To use this channel use the following at the beginning of your message:

WTS - Want to Sell, used when you are selling the item/s or service.
WTB - Want to Buy, used when you are searching for the item or service and want to purchase it.
WTT - Want to Trade, used when you want to trade the first item or service(yours) for another item or service.
PC - Price Check, used when you are not sure on the cost of an item or service. When replying to a PC, respond only with a brief message. Do not use this command for discussions.

@[Players name] - This will show your message in the trade window, but only to the player you input after the @ symbol.

Use the @[Players name], or PM, when you are trying to talk to a player instead of using PC or any of the other lines above. This keeps the Trade Chat clear of the private conversations or deals that are being made. Doing this allows others to see other posts in the trade chat, that were posted before and do not pertain to the current listing. Using PC to respond to a Price Check is still allowed. Discussions need to use the @ command or a PM.

Creativity in listings is encouraged! Keep them to a single message post and not multiples! If listing multiple items, consider making a forum post in the merchant section and listing the link in trade.

If posting the same listing again in trade chat, keep a 30 minute gap between posts. Multiple posts of different listings are to be kept to 2-3 at a time. Again, this helps allow other players posts to be seen.

Trade chat is for in game items and services ONLY. Posts not pertaining to Wurm Online can be moderated at the Chat Moderators discretion. And as always the normal chat rules apply to this channel as well.

"Unique" Mob Hunting Rules

Spoiler

The Hunters Guide of Proper Unique Creature Hunting Etiquette

To maintain proper etiquette when encountering a creature of unique stature, one must always heed to sportsmanlike conduct as written below.

When you discover a unique creature, you have two courses of action available to you.

The first course of action is to attempt to contain the creature so that it will go un-bothered until such time as you have fattened it up for slaughter. This is by no means the best option as any unique creature can escape any confinement you build at any time of its own choosing.

Under no circumstances should a contained unique on or under a deed be 'lured' out by any means outside of the intentions of the hunting party with claim. This will be classed as griefing and will net the offender/s a ban.

The second course of action, and most sportsmanlike to boot, is to gather your friends, family, coworkers, and any spare un-dead you may have lying around collecting dust, and have a splendifirous slaying party as soon as possible. Children always have lots of fun playing games like 'fingers and horns', 'tooth tail toe', 'foot toss', 'tug of entrails', ' and of course playing the old classic scene from the famous 'Swamp Wars' play and pretend to be Duke Skyrunner battling Barth Tater with bloody severed arm sabers. The adults meanwhile can butcher the rare and unique creature and create wonderful stews and other fine meals from the leftovers of the creature to eat as they haggle over the dispensation of the more valued body parts of each slain creature.

There is of course a third action available to you, though I am loath to mention it, but you could, in theory, turn, run away, and pretend you never saw it.

With multiple hunting parties hunting down these poor misunderstood unique creatures, recently, it has become such a war for the blood and other various body parts of each unique creature that many of the people hunting them are no longer having fun at this time honored blood sport. This is where proper etiquette must be applied for all to enjoy their kill and wear it too.  So, with that in mind, let's lay down some etiquette for this wonderful tradition.

First come first serve!

What does it mean to be the first? I am so glad you asked.

Normally, first person on scene is the one to claim the unique, but arguments do arise and we need something more solid to go on at this stage. So let us start a more tangible system by which if an argument were to arise, an arbitrator can be sent out to scout the situation, and determine decisively who is first.

Step 1. Commit one of these actions within range of the unique.

              Mine a tunnel

              Build a colossus

Dig a dirt, heap of sand, clay, tar, lava

              Plant a sign

              Cut a tree down

              Build a bridge

              Surface mine a shard

Step 2. Remember where you committed the action! If the arbitrator cannot find proof of work, then your claim will be denied.

Keep in mind, the above is only necessary if there is a dispute, which will likely only happen during the first few hours of discovery, but for your own sake, commit one of the above actions should you encounter a unique creature and wish to claim it for your own group to eviscerate.

Containment Protocols!

If you have chosen to lay claim to a unique, what do you do with it?

Kill it of course, you silly dunderhead!

Since most of you will not be able to take on a unique creature by your lonesome, you should gather up a slaughter party and throw a big bash for the unique creature as soon as possible. Unfortunately, it can take time to gather a large enough group of blood ravers to attend so you may decide to confine the unique creature in a 'pen'. This of course is not really intended, and unique creatures can escape on their own volition, so if you try to confine one of these poor Wurmland denizens, do not come calling to us when it escapes to get to the greener grass on the other side.

Should the unique decide to escape your attempts at confining it, it is again wild and can potentially be claimed by another, as long as they follow the above steps, if your party is not actively present to maintain your original claim.

Under no circumstances should a contained unique on or under a deed be 'lured' out by any means outside of the intentions of the hunting party with claim. This will be classed as griefing and will net the offender/s a ban.

Attempting to merely 'pen' a unique creature without a deed such as, using a sealed mine or a fence may work as a temporary option, but once you leave the area, any claim to it becomes invalid!

The slaying!

This is by far the most fun part of the event. Unfortunately, some have tried to sully the experience and so we provide you with some basic common courtesies that all should respect.

Courtesy #1 – If you are not with the slayer party that has claim to the unique creature, then leave the area!

Courtesy #2 – Do not bring alts into the loot drop range.

Courtesy #3 – Do not steal the corpse, body parts, or loot drops from the claimant party.

Courtesy #4 – Under no circumstances should a contained unique on or under a deed be 'lured' out by any means outside of the intentions of the hunting party with claim. This will be classed as griefing and will net the offender/s a ban.

Going against these courtesies of etiquette will be considered an act of griefing and will net the offender/s a ban.

Community slayings!

There are times in which hunting parties will organize a public slaying of a unique creature to share the spoils.  These are come one, come all events.  No one will be turned away from these, but a certain decorum of etiquette must be observed.

Courtesy #1 – Do not steal the corpse, body parts, or loot drops from the organizers of the community slaying party.

Courtesy #2 – Under no circumstances should a contained unique on or under a deed be 'lured' out by any means outside of the intentions of the organizing party with claim. This will be classed as griefing and will net the offender/s a ban.

This guide will be updated and adjusted to counter loopholes as more scenarios are considered in order to keep these activities in line with the spirit of the game.

Heritage Site Guidelines

Spoiler

What is a Heritage site?

A Heritage site in relation to Wurm Online is any construct deemed of community value by the Game Masters.

What makes a 'construct' or location a Heritage site?

Most current heritage sites are tunnels or canals built for the express transit across a terrain that saves people travel time by making it possible to bypass some form of terrain restriction.  Heritage Sites are not always about travel time reduction.  Some are memorials or can be a terraforming construct of unique significance.  All Heritage sites are built by members of the community for the benefit of the community.

What are the criteria for applying for Heritage site status?

a. Must be of value to the community.  (ie.  a canal that residents of the server use routinely for convenience.)

b. It must look nice!  (We do not mean structures that must be maintained, but the terrain must be made to be distinct and noticeable.)

c. There must not already be an existing Heritage performing the same function as the one you wish to submit.

d. It must always be public access!

e. If it is a tunnel or canal all interior walls must be reinforced.

How long does the application process take?

It is not uncommon for heritage applications to require extended review, but the average for heritage application reviews is about one week.

What does having a location accepted as a Heritage site actually mean?

We will always post Fantastic GM signs around a protected Heritage location, and should something happen to the Heritage location we will work with the original builders if possible to restore the Heritage as it was intended.  Heritage sites should not be modified or harmed.  Any needed modifications must be approved by the Game Masters.

What if a Heritage Site is damaged?

A support ticket should be raised and a Game Master will work to restore the Heritage site and or contact the original builders for assistance in correcting the situation.

What if I want to modify a Heritage site?

Acceptable modifications would include updating to any new mechanics.  Unacceptable modifications would be structural changes to the Heritage unless it was a Game Master approved request from the original builders.   All intended changes must meet with the approval of the Game Masters.

Can I deed a Heritage Site?

Heritage approval does not prevent a heritage from getting a deed placed on it somewhere.  It is not against the rules to place or extend a deed over a Heritage.  Any deed that intersects with a Heritage must apply highway rules in that no attempt to block access to the heritage must be made and K.o.S. via Deed Reputation mechanics may not be used.  If you have a deed over a heritage area, you still retain the deed permitted right to work the land as you see fit as deed owner except for the actual surface areas marked by GM sign that are significant to the Heritage. (ie. canal entrances)  Deeds may not be used to mine into or disrupt a heritage cave or canal.

Fansite Policy

Spoiler

Wurm Fan Sites (Online and Unlimited)

General Warning: Please be careful of any fansite that you might suspect is a scam for collecting your data. Stick to fansites of people who are legitimate players.

We love fan sites, they are great for villages, for people wanting to write about their personal experiences or just those who want to post a ton of pretty pictures. The more fan sites the better, as far as we are concerned!

But obviously a Wurm fan site is only a Wurm fan site if it has some Wurm content in it! So here are a few guidelines about using Wurm images, sounds, and so on so you know what you should or should not do.

1. DISCLAIMER

The first thing is to make clear that your site is a fan site and not an official Wurm Online site. The best thing to do is put a disclaimer on the front page somewhere obvious, or put it in the footer of your template if you use a template based site. Here is some suggested wording which you can steal if you like - just insert your own site name where shown.

  • Wurm Online
Quote

Wurm Online is a game produced by Code Club AB. Wurm Online and Code Club AB do not endorse and are not responsible or liable for any content, products, services or information available on YOUR SITE NAME.

YOUR SITE NAME is not connected to Wurm Online nor is it the official website. Please visit the Wurm Online Official Site at www.wurmonline.com

  • Wurm Unlimited
Quote

Wurm Unlimited is a game produced by Code Club AB. Wurm Unlimited and Code Club AB do not endorse and are not responsible or liable for any content, products, services or information available on YOUR SITE NAME.

YOUR SITE NAME is not connected to Wurm Unlimited nor is it the official website. Please visit the Wurm Unlimited Official Site at www.wurmonline.com

2. COPYRIGHT

The name Wurm Online, Wurm Unlimited, the official Wurm Logo and other content are protected rights of Code Club AB and or its agents or its suppliers. You must give appropriate credit to the Game and the respected suppliers - if in doubt, ask!

3. COMMERCIAL ACTIVITY

If you have a profit generating scheme which involves any thing to do with Wurm Online or any of the content, you MUST ask us first.

And you may not host or produce on your site or other site owned or controlled by you any exploit, cheat or any thing else that is against the game rules or may spoil the game for other players.

4. USE OF GAME CONTENT AND IMAGES

You can use pretty much anything you like from in game, but please do not corrupt or alter anything in anyway that would defame or injure the reputation or business of Code Club AB or its suppliers. In the case of third party content such as game music, you may need to seek permission from the copyright holders directly before using their content on your site. Again, if in doubt, ask!

5. USE OF LOGO

You may use the current Wurm Online or Wurm Unlimited logo, however it should not be used as the prominent title of your website - you should have your own logo for that. As we change logo from time to time, please ensure that your fansite carries the current logo.

6. YOUR CONTENT

What you put on your site is, of course, up to you - it is your site. However, if you wish to use Wurm Online or Wurm Unlimited content your site must NOT contain anything illegal, libellous, defamatory, or obscene. That includes pornography, racist, sexist, ageist, or homophobic references, or anything that we would not allow you to use on the Wurm Forums probably as good a guide as any.

7. MAILING LISTS

If you compile and run a mailing list, any message sent must comply with these Guidelines and state that you and the message are not connected with the Official Site. Perhaps use a disclaimer similar to the one above.

8. AND FINALLY

The golden rule is ASK. We have not nailed this down as tightly as most other games producers as we want you to enjoy putting your fan site together. But for pretty obvious reasons we also do need to protect our rights and reputation and those of the companies involved with us, or there won't be a Wurm to be a fan of!

So make a great Wurm Fan Site, and let us know so we can list it on our website.

ATTENTION!

Quote

Macro
Definition: A macro is any software/hardware that automates the sending of actions to the game server without user interaction and is not permitted.
A ) Key locking (IE weighing down a key on your keyboard) is not permitted.
B ) Multiboxing (automated sending of actions to more than one client at the same time) is not permitted.

Attendance required:

Make sure to attend your game session when performing actions. If you use keybinds and send actions that finish often, make sure that your actions have desired effect before starting a new queue in case you watch TV or do something similar that steals your attention. When performing actions that you start more seldom and take a long time to finish (such as fishing or training shields) you still need to verify that you have a valid target now and then when starting the action which should be no problem. In case we notice that you are not attending the game and express prolonged robotic behavior where your actions have no effect you risk being banned for automated play. This will of course not happen when playing normally or being afk. You also have to make sure to respond to any popup questions that may occur due to such perceived automation.

Punishment: First offense - Permanent avatar ban.  Second offense - Loss of all avatars/accounts and permanent ip ban.
 - Penalties for macro abuse may be applied at any time pending GM review, even if you have discontinued abusing a macro at time of penalty.

Use of the 'G' keys on a G series keyboard, mouse, or other similar product is permitted to send multiple actions simultaneously (without any default, built-in, or added delay timingsin order to fill your in game ACTION QUEUE provided you do NOT use any sort of repeat function.

This is not a rule update.  This is simply a friendly reminder to anyone tempted by the illegal use of macros in Wurm Online.

Update - typo correction 'behaviour' - 'behavior'

Abandoned vehicles
Abandoned vehicles are those that have been left in such places that constitute a problem to playability such as abandonment on deed. In situations where the game does not allow a deed owner to move (drag, push, pull...) an abandoned vehicle, the item may be brought to the attention of a Game Master. The GM will move the vehicle to the deed perimeter, after confirming that the owner is not active.

On Deed Vehicles and Tents

All vehicles, boats and tents that deed owners are not able to move themselves (drag, push, pull..) will be moved to the perimeter at mayor request via support ticket.
