  2. i want to sell some animals: 2 horses andone deer these animals for 40c
  3. I was thinking about how to keep aggressive animals on deed and still have spirit guards active to protect against trolls bashing walls down and had an idea. My idea is that while we have an aggressive animal tamed/dominated allow them to be branded . Once they are branded and turn back aggressive the guards will know that they belong to that deed and will not attack them anymore. This would only work on the deed that the animals are branded to any other deeds guards would attack as normal. I don't know if you can even brand an aggressive animal now or not but thought this was a good idea for keeping hell horses and other animals.. What do you think?
  4. Hi, I didn't see another thread and just want to make sure this is a known bug. I have animals stuck in my mine. Bison and deer specifically. The bison can be led but are stuck as if they are in water. If I hitch them to the cart I can get them out that way, but that doesn't work with animals not strong enough to pull, haha. The deer can be tamed, but leading them presents the same problem. I'm also unable to command them to "go here" outside the cave - they just get confused and start running around manically. I've been handfeeding them but the tedium is killing me. Thanks for your time.

  6. While I have just scratched the surface of Taming and Caring for animals, I thought of a few ideas for the future that may interest some of you. Fish - It would be great to have more sea creatures that surfaced on beaches, and crawled out of lakes! Both realistic and mythical. Plus, a greater variety of edible fish for more complex or stat enhancing meals and potions would be interesting. Think of the implications of a dart tipped with blow fish poison. And while we are at it - why not have Great Sea Creatures lurking and spawning far off the coasts which ships could track, stalk, and attempt to capture or subdue. A great caravel pulled by a pod of strong champion dolphins would be quite fast. And the oil, fat, meat, bones, and hide of a Great Whale would supply a settlement or economy with a huge influx of supplies to spur the local economy. The fight between a flotilla of sailing ships and a Gigantic Octopus, or Sea Serpent would be magnificent! Fowl - What about the ability to capture, tame, and train a falcon or other bird of prey. For that matter, and bird that is able to fly any distance could be useful as a scout. Perhaps, once properly trained, a falcon could be used like a spyglass or a telescope to visit and see over the next hill or mountain. Sent out from the falconer's shoulder, the player would then control and view the world from the falcon's vantage point! In addition - one could specialize in and train homing pigeons for messaging (in addition to the mail system already in place). Other birds could act similarly, or perform the task that their Middle Age counterparts performed for human civilization! Familiars - Stepping into the realm of fantasy and magic - it would be great to go beyond taming and commanding creatures to actually getting behind their eyes and moving into enemy camp to silently stalk for a kill, or sneak past unnoticed for surveillence. In this case - the player character would stay behind, their body vulnerable to attack and death. But - if they were smart they could secure their person, and still take a scorpion familiar to an enemy camp for a really great PvP attack! Or simply act as a spirit animal that the player character can morph into through spells for a limited time - but a great enhancement to specific attack capabilities or specialized skills. Familiars would be time limited control over the tamed creature, would be vulnerable to death and even capture (oh wow, think of the implication of being 'inside' your familiar when it is captured, in turn trapping the player character in the familiar in a cage for who knows how long... ) Anyhow - these are some fun ideas I've been kicking around concerning the fauna of Wurm and how we currently interact or could possibly interact with them in the future!
  7. This has crossed the line. First, the update that broke fences was released. Animals everywhere, lost, stolen, killed. Animals people spent huge amounts of time breeding, caring for, and/or collecting. Animals people bought with money they sunk RL money into. Animals people NEED. Sure there's people with 60 horses in 2x1 pens, but there's people who just bought 2 horses for use with carts and riding, that are now GONE. Okay, so, it was a mistake. A glitch. It was fixed. ... It happened...AGAIN. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. Now animals are out again, getting stolen, getting killed, MORE LOSS. And what are we pretty much told? 'Sorry. Have fun chasing down your animals!' No. NO. I AM NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS. COMPENSATION IS DUE FOR OUR LOSSES SUFFERED AT THE HANDS OF PEOPLE WHO CAN'T BE BOTHERED TO TEST UPDATES BEFORE THEY'RE RELEASED. IT'S KIND OF A HUGE PROBLEM WHEN ANIMALS CAN WALK THROUGH FENCES. DON'T YOU THINK THEY MIGHT HAVE NOTICED THAT? I appreciate Wurm and the great fun it's makers have given us, but it is not right to abuse your Citizens and PAYING CUSTOMERS like this! SOME WAY, SOMEHOW, PAY US BACK FOR THESE GRIEVOUS SCREW UPS.
  8. There Should be new "weaker" animals like rabbits, birds, fish ( that you can see in the water and spear , not the ones for decoration), ducks, goats, etc. This will not only make hunting better for new players but make a better use for traps like the net trap and for weapons like the spear. Another thing that could be useful with these new animals is the Drying Frame, where when you kill and small animals you get there fur which than you can make a tanning tub were you can put lye in it and it will have like a tub of water animation. You put the fur in there and turn it into leather. I hope you like my ideas Oh and another thing you could do with the Fur/leather is Make tents that will degrade over time but will provide some protection agenst creatures. There could be like a swing open of the tents door to the side. Another thing could be Cloths. Cloths made of Fur like Cavemen

  10. I have two 5x10 enclosed areas that I'm trying to grow potatos in and raise horses/cows. In each area I have 1 bull, 1 cow, 2 adult horses and 3 baby horses. In the past 12 hours I've had to replant about 20 potatos, so this obviously doesn't seem like its working out idealy to me. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should do to prevent this from happening? Should I build a seperate enclosed area for the animals made of just grass? How much space should I have per animal? Thank you.
  11. I have a few animal-related suggestions. 1. Pigs, cows, etc. can swim IRL. Why can't they swim in-game? This should be fixed. Lots of transactions cannot occur because these animals can't cross large channels to island areas or secluded areas. 2. Predatory animals/monsters should be able to eat other animals. If a wild (un-tame) predatory animal becomes hungry, it should attack another animal (tame/un-tame, wild or bred, just whatever is closeby). The two animals would then fight. If the winner is the hungry animal, it will consume the weaker animal. The consumed animal should leave behind an empty, "butchered" corpse that uses its standard butchered-corpse model. The predatory animal would then no longer be hungry. If the winner is not the hungry animal, then the corpse would be left there as if a player killed it and left it there. Certain species (trolls, spiders, etc.) should be cannibalistic. 3. Predatory animals should feed on unbutchered corpses. This ties into the previous suggestion. If the winner of the fight scenario mentioned in the previous suggestion were a non-hungry carnivorous animal, it would leave the corpse laying there. If the corpse were in a 10-tile range when the animal became hungry again, it would walk over to the corpse and consume it, leaving behind the same butchered-corpse model. I understand that it would be rather difficult to make the game distinguish between carrion-feeders and regular predatory animals, or between starving animals and hungry animals, so I won't suggest that now. 4. Animals should be able to be led across servers. Enough said about that one. More suggestions soon.
  12. Okay so I had a thought about a way to make the hunting on Wurm a little more interesting and dangerous at the same time. There are already animal conditions so I know this can be done in a way, also the Troll king and Goblin leader show this coding to be plausible as well so I don't want to hear "it would be to hard to code" or anything of the sort, if you don't have any actually useful information to post please move on to the next topic. Now that is out of the way my idea was to implement Alpha versions of creatures into the game. The concept is to have one dominant creature that leads a group of five+ others. The condition of alpha would increase it's size to around x1.2-x1.7 that of the normal character model. It would also increase the attack strength, attack speed, stamina, and defense of said creature by at least a factor of x1.5 for each. The age of said creature in question would have to be mature or older in order to have the status. When highlighted their name would say "Mature Alpha Black Wolf" or perhaps with Alpha at the end of the name in parenthesis like one of our titles. If you wanted to you could take it a step further and make it to where once a alpha gets too old a younger "usurper" of sorts could take it's place either by sheer transfer of power or through the killing of the old alpha(this part might be too hard to code). Adding this idea into the game would make it harder by a considerate amount to hunt, thus making it basically a requirement to hunt and play with others. I believe that this would increase the fun while out hunting and would make it to where villages that have more than one or two people are more common. or at least communities of a great amount of homesteads near one another pop up making it easier to get together with your allies to go on a hunting trip. Obviously not every creature in this game would roam in packs, trolls only around the king, same for goblins with the leader. Crocs, anacondas, scorpions, hell scorpious, cave bugs(?), and fiends would all be alpha-less creatures. But the rest of the creatures from my knowledge are pack/group/herd animals. Not so sure about spiders, boars, and bears(both types) however. The rest being; bison, wolf, bull/cow, chicken, deer, dog, horses, hell horses and hell hounds(not so sure about these cause they are strong alone), rats, gorillas, lions, pheasents, pigs, hyenas, unicorns, and cats. All would be pack animals. Feel free to post any and all constructive criticism. My goal with this idea is to make the game more community driven, I for one think that everyone having their own deed is one of the main reasons people leave this game so easily. They go out, get their deed done then get bored and quit, leaving tons of ruins in their wake. Thanks for reading that long post, Direwolf. ---------------------EDITED Parts of the idea---------------------- I don't want to modify the original post so here are the modifications to the original idea. - Alphas can't be penned, they walk through locked or unlocked gates and bash down pens with no gates - The Alpha title is not a genetic trait and therefore can't be breed to produce more alphas. - Due to the previous two edits Alphas can not be tamed. - Aggro or not if one member of the pack is attacked all the members attack the intruder in defense. Thus making it harder to hunt anything at all. - Make the Alphas the spawn or have them create a spawn for their pack alone in which they roam a minimum 25 tile circumference around that spawn. - Reproduction if there is a male and a female and room in the pack. Giving the idea that the pack will have little ones to look after. If a baby is attacked the pack defends. - Later if running animals are implemented(animals that run from hunters) make it to where if the alpha is attacked they all defend, if any other is attacked they all scatter in a group, save maybe one or two defend.
  13. It was great to see so many livestock on the new Celebration server on the opening; I saw some I had never seen before on Deli such as pheasants! However, I have deeded on an island just off the mainland and I had the crafting bug and by the time I had a workaround to allow me to get an animal pen up, the livestock on my island had already been penned up by the other players that deeded there. So seeing as most animals don't swim, I am relying on new ones still spawning on the island to enable me to get them without trading. So, is there any guesses as to how long livestock are likely to still spawn for on Celebration? Is the spawn rate a server-wide thing or regional? I had a little explore round the island and some folks have already got around a dozen animals penned up so does that affect the chances of new ones spawning in the same region? Lastly, if I do an exploration trip of the island and don't find any, how long should I wait before going again? In other words, what is the spawn rate? Many thanks!
  14. Last night on IRC there was another long to and fro about hording of animals. My idea to get rid of this always going argument is actually already semi in the game. (Note is will need some refinement) If you right click a horse there is already a management option. So why not make animal ownership papers. Basic system. Lets limit this to horse , cow and bull and others Animals = Horse, cow or Bull Other = dog , pig .... (aka non-agro mobs) This will exclude there pets An Unowned animal will have a set Life span and a owned animals will be double that. Grooming an animal will give a % change to lengthen the amount of days a owned animal lives. Ownership To get ownership of a unowned animal will be - lead it then right click take ownership. And any animal should get a "This <animal type> belongs to <name>" or a "This <animal type> has no owner" . (Will make it easy to get your horse back) For PVP, If you or a own member killed the owner of the horse in the last 15 mins. You can take over ownership of the horse (not a stealing action). Amount A F2P can`t own any papers until he or she has had premium once. (they can`t ride a horse a command a cart anyway,) If you loose premium you cant get any more animal papers. (allows them to have animals but not on load of alts just to horde animals) A P2P player is allowed to own 3 Animals and 1 more at 20AH (or higher) Allows them for a breeding set and 1 baby (and later 1 more) A mayor is allowed to own 1 extra animal per P2P town member, Anyone who has 50+AH is allowed to own a set amount of extra animals. And a little neat function would be that you don't need a rope to lead a animal you own. (Don`t know if its possible to allow a time delay after getting of to ride directly) Pets are excluded if the are not a animal. Also add a set amount of Other per area and a deed doubles that amount. And here is the Best anti-hording part. Only owned animals can be bred and the only way to own an animal is to get one wild or get it traded to you, and to get rid of an owned horse it must be traded or have to die. (It will be neat if you get a message saying Potpie has died form her spider bites) (I can just hear my Mayor screaming whats the houses name so I can find The Writ) Please don`t flame about hording as there is enough other thread to do that in.
