  5. Aside from rider/racer fees, horse entry fees, there could also be a great Faire - merchant booth /setup fees, an Impalong during the race weekend - who knows what else ... But my main concern was less about making money and potential for gambling as it was to test and press the limits of the horses, their breeding, and the rider's ability to manage their steed - with and without burdens, over different courses or obstacles, and so forth Think of the price your Stallion would get once he won a few series of races - and was ready to mat with a High QL Mare!! Stud fees!
  6. Yes - I have been really considering how to make this plan work well - Thanks for the positive feedback so far. I really thought it would be something I'd have to complete on my own anyhow - - I wasn't planning on the Dev's to be involved
  7. While I have just scratched the surface of Taming and Caring for animals, I thought of a few ideas for the future that may interest some of you. Fish - It would be great to have more sea creatures that surfaced on beaches, and crawled out of lakes! Both realistic and mythical. Plus, a greater variety of edible fish for more complex or stat enhancing meals and potions would be interesting. Think of the implications of a dart tipped with blow fish poison. And while we are at it - why not have Great Sea Creatures lurking and spawning far off the coasts which ships could track, stalk, and attempt to capture or subdue. A great caravel pulled by a pod of strong champion dolphins would be quite fast. And the oil, fat, meat, bones, and hide of a Great Whale would supply a settlement or economy with a huge influx of supplies to spur the local economy. The fight between a flotilla of sailing ships and a Gigantic Octopus, or Sea Serpent would be magnificent! Fowl - What about the ability to capture, tame, and train a falcon or other bird of prey. For that matter, and bird that is able to fly any distance could be useful as a scout. Perhaps, once properly trained, a falcon could be used like a spyglass or a telescope to visit and see over the next hill or mountain. Sent out from the falconer's shoulder, the player would then control and view the world from the falcon's vantage point! In addition - one could specialize in and train homing pigeons for messaging (in addition to the mail system already in place). Other birds could act similarly, or perform the task that their Middle Age counterparts performed for human civilization! Familiars - Stepping into the realm of fantasy and magic - it would be great to go beyond taming and commanding creatures to actually getting behind their eyes and moving into enemy camp to silently stalk for a kill, or sneak past unnoticed for surveillence. In this case - the player character would stay behind, their body vulnerable to attack and death. But - if they were smart they could secure their person, and still take a scorpion familiar to an enemy camp for a really great PvP attack! Or simply act as a spirit animal that the player character can morph into through spells for a limited time - but a great enhancement to specific attack capabilities or specialized skills. Familiars would be time limited control over the tamed creature, would be vulnerable to death and even capture (oh wow, think of the implication of being 'inside' your familiar when it is captured, in turn trapping the player character in the familiar in a cage for who knows how long... ) Anyhow - these are some fun ideas I've been kicking around concerning the fauna of Wurm and how we currently interact or could possibly interact with them in the future!
  8. A few weeks ago I saw a travel documentary showcasing a horse race through the streets of some European city. The streets were quite narrow, and lined with thousands of cheering fans on both sides. This left only a small path for the riders to navigate their speeding horses! And the track was dirt or sawdust, and curved bent and twisted around a very few small city blocks. Everyone looked extremely excited and engaged - and the riders were really worked over when the event was done. There was even a huge wreck with horses and men falling to the ground and piling up on one another ... spectacular! What does the community think about establishing some form of horse racing across the islands of Wurm? />http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horse_racing There are of course the modern forms of horse racing that could be matched - - but - - it might also be very interesting to put a medieval or Wurm'ian twist on the sport! It is, after all, a different World!

I think this is a wonderful idea - and I was thinking of setting up something like this near my deed - along with some other sport The idea of a 'street race on horseback' was introduced to me on a Travel Channel program or some other TV show which showcased a high drama, highly attended horse race through the narrow streets of some European city ... Since seeing that small clip - I can't find a video or info anywhere - - perhaps I am searching wrongly ... ANYHOW - I love the idea for Wurm This type of skills / community / 'physical' based sport in Wurm could really take off!

  11. Very well done Rolf and Entire Dev Team, and Game Masters - and all volunteers that put any amount of time into helping make Wurm 1.0 a reality! Having seen the game on and off for years - I must say - this game stood heads and shoulders above the rest thanks to it's concept alone. Now - with the graphics updates - it will invite many more into the game. And it will continue to break down the currently blurred line between Wurm and Reality ... Thank You!

Rather than just "More" of the same effect or attribute - why not allow Rare items to bring about 'until now unknown spells/enhancements/enchantments' A rare, supreme or fantastic 'frying pan' in the hands of someone with high Hot Cooking skill could ... hear me out ... Increase Player SPEED, or some other logical attribute based on having just eaten a meal created in a RARE item So I guess what I mean is - Rare items YIELD rare results - and otherwise unlockable traits or attributes that are on timers and only last as enhancements for a short time - a boost to an attribute that then fades

  14. I was considering this a couple weeks back - but with my schedule and needing to learn how to set it all up I balked! Glad to see the spirit moved yu to setup a solution!! I look forward to listening - and helping where I can. Are you going to be including any On-air Advertisements, and 'Talk Shows'/Podcast Replays, News Reporting, or 'Wurm Weather Reporing'! ha I think this type of living radio for the world would be awesome - anyhow - have a blast - keep us ROCKIN' One suggestion - I enjoy listening to 'Epic Movie Soundtracks' while playing Wurm. A blend of Lord of The Rings, Last of the Mohicans, Legend of Zelda by Orchestra, and OTHER fantasy and epic movie soundtracks blended together ... It REALLY enhances the enjoyment of Wurm as an epic fantasy game
