  1. Hello all! I am having difficulty in figuring this one out so I'm reaching out for help. I'm not a coder so my limited knowledge is no help . What I would like to accomplish is to disallow Priest characters from converting followers into Priests. My vision is to create a series of quests that a player is required to complete in order to become a priests. Along with adjustments such as existing Priest Mods this would allow me to convey a more special meaning to becoming a priest, i.e. an earned achievement. I'm also thinking about creating career paths for players with possible (reasonable) skill caps to introduce more role play into the game. I really enjoy the freedom of WURM but at the same time regret that it makes other players unnecessary, leading to less interactive communities. That person dedicating themselves to being a highly skilled Blacksmith doesn't have an end game because all of his neighbors can make things themselves. Thus, he has to rely on them not having the time to do it or just not felling like it. I am getting off topic. This is step one in my plan to make playing a Priest as a main meaningful and I would appreciate greatly if someone could create such a mod.
  2. I am sometimes simply frustrated having to waste time traveling to a token just to check my bank balance or to check and see which items I have banked if I have forgotten. We can carry around the deed for our settlement, why not a ledger tracking the contents of our bank accounts? It is a minor thing but I think it would be a great convenience to many I suspect.
  3. I have to +1 this. I invite people to the game time and time again, then they leave and never return and I'm stuck bashing their walls down.
  4. I thought you had to hold all of the writs before deeding over houses
  5. Personal goals should at least be given server specific. Giving someone the goal of killing a dragon when they will NEVER see one is a bit absurd. Sorcerers? Bad enough we have Priests that people only wake up to enchant things then put them back to bed. Even more rare soon enough as people stop premming their alts due to cost increases.
  6. We both agree that the lag needs fixing regardless. Fair enough. I agree locality will always be a factor but I play many FPS games and the key factors are always going to be in the coding. Some games are horrible while my Australian friends and I are able to play on the same servers in other games without any issues. I'm just saying it is possible. As you pointed out though it couldn't be possible unless the lag issues are addressed first.
  7. My question was why is it acceptable to have lag? Doesn't matter what the system is, lag is bad. My point being it invalidates your point if the lag is fixed. Which it should be regardless of which system we use. Also I said tactics not strategy. These are not the same thing. Your logic is extremely flawed.
  8. The new 'sorcery' system is a prime example that they will work on what they want to and not necessarily what we want them to. The game doesn't need new features right now it needs the existing ones working properly, it needs a better tutorial/newbie welcome system and so on and so forth. At least you're honest about your objections but it isn't a reason to shoot down suggestions for the future.
  9. Stay Or Go?

I thought the question was will you leave WURM for those other games. If you would continue to play WURM as well as playing any new ones our answer would have been in the "Yes I am staying" category. No need for a third.
  10. Healing, Archery, Checking Equipment and Special Moves are not strategy they are actions and aiming and positioning are organic to a fight in a pattern that any experienced fighter will do in the same order repeatedly. You can't even control when your character swings in order to time a thrust with a lunge. Combat has to be based upon a 1v1 on equal ground scenario. The variables are things that the player has to react to but they are not a part of the combat system itself. Changing MOB AI won't help people to experience anything different though it could use improvement. I mean, you get behind them and they attack you as if you were in front of them without even turning around. Why is lag acceptable now and why does a game have to focus on combat in order for it to have a more enjoyable combat experience? @Firefly: You've grossly oversimplified physical combat in your chess example. Am I mistaken in that you seem to favor a turn based system? The reason many favor a twitch based system is that A) it is simply more intuitive and it allows for tactics such as feints as well as the things presented by Alyeska. I had a few other points but got distracted by your 'derpy game' comment. There's no reason for a jump key in this game and even if there were, it would be tied to stamina so thankfully we'd be safe from armed bunnies. As for people swinging swinging at each others' heads, we have that already, you just can't see it. Also twitch won't take away from your suspense before the fight. This is why I proposed the hybrid system. It provides a more intuitive twitch based interface and combines it with the skills based combat we already have. Will anyone discuss the pros and cons of such a system? I don't know as it seems more to me that people are simply opposed to change period.
  11. In game things have only the value that you give them even if they cost you RL money to aquire.
  12. Stay Or Go?

It is more relevant to your game play than you think. If WURM were to lose a significant enough portion of its subscribers to competitors you may not have a game to play. Some players seem to have their heads stuck in the sand regarding WURM's uniqueness. It is easy to dismiss the upcoming titles when they are still in Alpha stage but their development is not so ponderous as this game's has been and they are quickly closing the gap. It's also easy to fall into the trap of thinking just because WURM is unique, that people will not leave or that the game will survive just because we love it. That mistake was made by a certain other developer who is now begging for its remaining subscribers to voluntarily pay double the subscription fee just to keep them going. People will walk away even if they love it if they feel mistreated. I agree that you can't make knee-jerk reactions based upon the complaints of a vocal minority but you also cannot ignore industry trends. Also you have to do the math. What percentage of the player base uses the forums and are they representative of the player base at large? Over thirty percent of respondents voted that they are leaving. Not many voted at all, but are they representative of the whole? Ignoring it is not a decision to be taken lightly. Many have stated they are letting prems lapse due to price increases too. Rolf said long term purchases were up but that means also that he will not receive any income from those players for the duration of that time period. So, he gets money up front but his revenue is reduced over time meaning the game is running on savings rather than monthly revenues. This makes it easier to come up short in the long term. Personally I would like to see WURM succeed as Rolf was the pioneer with this type of game, he took the risks that other developers weren't willing to (until minecraft) and has stayed the course for nearly a decade to bring us to where we are now. As a customer however, if someone else is going to offer me something better for the money, I will have to go with what I see as value for my dollar.
  13. You make a fair point but just think about how clunky that system is. Combat shouldn't be about having a bunch of windows open micro managing your character, at least in my opinion. Also some keep bringing up having multiple opponents; You base combat off of 1v1 engagements and it will scale naturally. Having multiple opponents is a product of game play not the combat system itself. Lag. It's definitely a problem but not necessarily an issue of locality. We already experience lag. It's a matter of servers and net code though. I believe with a hybrid system it would be less of an issue than it would be with a true twitch system.
