Treasure Map area walled up not deeded. What is the proper way to get to it?

Recommended Posts

So I have a map that leads to an off deed walled in tree farm. How are we supposed to get these treasures?  It isn't on deed so I guess I could bash a wall but that is kinda rude.  Is that my only option?

Yup, bash it. You wont be doing anything that anyone who wanted in couldn't do themselves. So you're not exposing the owner to any risk. And since it's not deeded, they don't own the wall. And you aren't doing it maliciously. If you feel really bad about it, rebuild the wall when you leave.

I have been hit with this issue on several occasions, each time I opted to bash at the weakest link in the wall I can find then after completing where I need to dig just put up another wall.  But that is your choice.

i find walled off non deeded areas to be rude to the community so the one time this happened to me, i just built a catapault and went hamm on 5-6 wall sections so i could easily get in and find my way back out

"That wall or fence was down when I got here. No, I know nothing about any nearby siege machinery."

Lol Fair enough all. I have reached out to who I think owns it. Will give them until I do my next treasure hunt run next weekend.  Wanted to get a feel for how people thought it should be handled. But the answer seems to be what I expected.

Honestly if not deeded its fair game and pretty rude -- I understand trying to protect certain resources but even locking gates on freedom seems just unnecessary in my opinion.

I have had this happen to me multiple times with walls and locked gates and find it quite rude.  I try and make contact first to ask to let me in, but my main weapon is a large maul and doesn't take me long to make my own entrance if required.

Adopt the RL country way - do what you need to but leave it as you found it.

I had to lock pick gates few times but won't be a big deal if ever have to bash a wall and rebuild it again before leaving either

I agree that bashing is legitimate, rebuilding would be a courtesy I would always do if I have the time and mats for (even easier today  with  mineral debris nodes littered all over the landscape). I disagree that it were exceptionally bad to fence off deed, but of course such barriers are free game. Btw. lockpicking won't work in PvE, except on own locks.

Can lock pick gates out of deed and also gates that are build on arched house walls, even if it's not your house or have permissions, it auto lock again 10 minutes after lockpick

That's a neat idea. Least dmg done that way and even skill gained.

[edit] As mentioned below lockpicking on pve is against the rules and can/will be addressed accordingly. It didn't occur to me at the time.

Lockpicking
A ) Lockpicking anything that does not belong to you is not permitted.
Punishment: You may be warned, or banned based on the situation.

Also just for a bonus under forum rules: C ) You may not discuss, post items or links on religion, pornography, illegal drugs or the abuse of such drugs, game exploits, macros, or disallowed game practices as per the game rules.

Its probably not the best idea to be endorsing this option however bashing is still perfectly fine :)

Luckily, if you can't set permission to anything out of your deed, like a house, cart boat etc it's pretty much not yours and it doesn't belong to anyone else either, even more they dropped enclosure rule a while back and the game pretty much warns you on your first attempt to drop an item that someone else might take it, so this exact segment of the rules might need some tweaking

Lockpicking rule on freedom is seriuosly stupid and i would urge wurm team to reconsinder removing it. If you can bash it there is not reason not to be able to lockpick it without being warned or punished by GM for it.

There are other reasons for this rule.

As it stands now, the game rules say that you are not permitted to lockpick things that are not yours. If we discover this has happened (gates have history), there has been and will be penalties depending on the situation.

It's not impossible to get the rules changed, but I would strongly suggest against doing an action that is currently against the rule.

And what are those other reasons for this rule?

Only things i know that can lockpicked on freedom are gates and small chests(you could argue if small chest are someones, if you pick it up it's yours as far as i'm concerned) for other things game forbids you by actual mechanic to lockpick, why is this mechanic allowed  just for gates is beyond me.

So if i bash the gate it is fine, but if i god forbid i lockpick it because i actually grinded lockpicking i will be punnished?

Where is the logic in that please explain me, i'm all ears.

Where i can see who is the owner of just fences and 1 locked gate? Can i claim ownership to it? Can someone just lock unlocked gates and claim ownership of the fenced area even tho enclosure rule is not in effect? Can someone get banned by bashing a locked gate or a fence connected to locked gate and if not why not?

I may have forgotten about that part, since it is nothing I do to begin with. So lockpicking is out of the question of course.

But the locked gates does say Owner: and their name. to me sounds like Owner owns the gate. But offdeed go ahead and bash the fence to get in to do Tmap.
