Posted October 28, 2014 Benn unable to connected all morning today (so far). The forums work fine. The main site + game login do not. I get a timeout when trying to view the homepage.
Posted October 28, 2014 I had the same issue two days ago. But it was probably due to my internet provider. However unexpected lagging and some dissconects are happening to me in Wurm too. I'm fairly close to the servers so it's not that often as for people who are further but it's also happening. Not only in the game but the Forums are lagging quite often too. It takes up to few minutes to load a page sometimes
Posted October 28, 2014 I am in the UK, running Wurm on two separate laptops. Both got disconnected at the same time and now I cannot launch the application on either, and neither can I access the wurm online home page, though I can access the forums. I tried a traceroute and it just times out:Tracing route to jenn001.game.wurmonline.com [148.251.21.205]over a maximum of 30 hops: 1 6 ms 6 ms 5 ms 192.168.1.1 2 7 ms 9 ms 9 ms host-2-103-240-1.as13285.net [2.103.240.1] 3 12 ms 12 ms 12 ms host-78-151-238-145.as13285.net [78.151.238.145] 4 13 ms 12 ms 14 ms host-78-151-238-140.as13285.net [78.151.238.140] 5 14 ms 15 ms 15 ms host-78-144-12-5.as13285.net [78.144.12.5] 6 16 ms 16 ms 14 ms host-78-144-11-122.as13285.net [78.144.11.122] 7 * * * Request timed out. 8 * * * Request timed out. 9 * * * Request timed out. 10 * * * Request timed out. Posted October 29, 2014 Ping statistics for 148.251.21.205: Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 3, Lost = 1 (25% loss) It would be helpful to find which host is losing the packets.
Posted October 29, 2014 (edited) It would be helpful to find which host is losing the packets. We've already established that Hetzner is the culprit by the endless array of traceroutes. The problem isn't a lack of knowledge on the subject - the problem is there aren't enough people being affected by this issue to warrant CodeClubAB packing up and moving to a new host... The reason I'm building a list of individuals being afflicted, and spreading awareness on the subject is to show that yes, it is economically viable to move hosts because a lot of people are being affected, but merely aren't speaking up about it. They're probably also holding out hope that it's the fault of Canada's ISP's being blocked, or blocking packets, so they can turn around and say, "We're sorry, but there is nothing we can do. Talk to your ISP." - This is why it's important that we show how many people from different countries are being hit by this as well. FIX THIS !! YES I'M YELLING AND I'M ###### SICK AND ###### TIRED OF ALL THESE ###### DISCONNECTS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This isn't an uncommon problem. I've played multiple games that had similar issues. Shadowbane, Anarchy Online, Ultima Online and even Star Wars Galaxies all had problems like this. I've been through this song and dance before - and sadly, getting angry isn't the solution. By quitting, you're only giving them a solution by removing yourself from the equation. (Oh well, I don't have to fix it now, that guy is gone.) Proactive petitioning is the only way you're ever going to get anything done. Show the company the profit it could lose (and potentially had already lost as more and more people quit on this issue alone.), and appeal to their business-sense. We also have to remember that reliable hosts don't grow on trees. When they do make the decision to move to a new host, tracking one down could still take some time. (The holiday season is also coming up, which provides a potentially tumultuous time to attempt changing hosts. If the new host doesn't work out, and problems occur, you're looking at a financial catastrophe. It's why they tend to wait until January and February for major changes.) If you see anybody who is crashing with similar symptoms (5 - 10 second "Refreshing", "Connection was aborted by the software in your host machine", Server list on the forums not loading despite other people playing Wurm.) send them to this thread. Posted November 7, 2014 Allright, our investigations lead us to believe that there are issues with the nets leading to hetzner in that they throttle outbound or inbound traffic. We need you to contact us when this happens the next time at a large scale so we can create some statistics for Hetzner. Please prepare by reading this.>http://whatismyip.com) We try to work normal office hours in Sweden so we will start by responding to this between 9 am and 16 pm CEST. We should be able to get enough interesting data that way.We need to be able to ping your computer, so make sure it's possible to ping. You can test from for instance this site https://www.dotcom-tools.com/ping-test.aspx Once you've emailed us, start pinging jenn001.game.wurmonline.com using the instructions above and email the result to the same address. One of the ping servers at https://www.dotcom-tools.com/ping-test.aspx is based in Frankfurt, which may actually mean it's hosted by Hetzner. Thanks!
Posted November 7, 2014 Recently me and some other players in America have been getting random lags/disconnects at the same time that last a little bit before they stop but now I cant even stay on the server for long before it reconnects me.
Posted November 8, 2014 Thanks for your response and addressing this situation.Went through the ISP throttling situation a few years ago. Ends up the disconnect problem was the throttling the entire time. ISP just did not want to admit it and did their damnedest to avoid doing anything. It's a good read if you're into this stuff. http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r25526726-Rogers-answerable-to-CRTC-over-ITMP-again Not so sure I want to go through this whole hassle once again. My suggestion is to call Hetzner. Have them shut off their throttling. See if anyone here is still having the problem. If not, problem solved. The alternative seems to be to put the onus on the end user to prove it's Hetzner throttling, with months and months of testing. Then once that's done, they can simply say, "too bad, don't like it, switch hosts". I'm not sure, but doubt they're breaking any of their country laws, so no reason to fix it.
Posted November 8, 2014 Most of the traces show the first problems in the Init7 net leading to Hetzner. I've never noticed any problems because my ISP has direct routing to Hetzer and does not use the Init7 net. The only chance here is to put pressure on Hetzner to pass it on to Init7. Or switch to a different provider which may have the same issues with the connection again.
Posted November 8, 2014 I have been disconnected now and then, but today the launcher times out over and over. I have cable connection, so it is not my end. Wurm website is also very slow to load. I can connect to other sites at top speed, no problems.

But the may use different peering networks like the mentioned Init7 network.
