If you pay attention to who reacts to which responses, you can easily gather that the staff was not aware of any changes being planned for WU.

This was just another post full of corporate management talk to calm people down, using buzzwords and terms from several of the hottest topics. It indicates that he doesn't know what he's talking about, just pumps out lines of text which customers might relate to. When pointed out, removes the bits which are an obvious lie and leaves the rest of the lies in place since those can only be disproved in few months time, at which point there will be a new drama people will be preoccupied with so he will get away with it again.

This is a fair point and very likely. I would much rather it be just lies and BS and they continue to leave WU to rest in peace. Currently, I like it very much over there, as it's insulated from the chaos going on here, and in theory atleast, it will continue to live on for quite some time with no issue as long as it is left untampered with.

  2. This began as a comment on another one of the threads addressing the recent announcements and the future of our beloved game, but it quickly became so long winded that I thought it deserved a thread all it's own. I appreciate everyone taking the time to read and offering their thoughts to the thread as well.

    This here.

I'm concerned about this. I'm rarely ever 'concerned' about Wurm. I embrace change, I tell people to roll with it, I wait it out to see how things go before making those calls.

    Now I'm concerned.

I've refrained from posting on the forums about any of this mess since it first started occurring with Krister posting his first official forum address, but I feel as though now is an appropriate time.

Stargrace's comment here perfectly echoes my sentiment. I have always been very pro-change when it comes to Wurm updates, and I almost always take the side opposite of those with extremely long history with the game who oppose any and all changes to it. That being said, even I have reached a point where I know this is going nowhere good. I've been saying to myself since the very first Krister address that this was the beginning of the end of this beautiful game I have come to know and love, and with every new announcement and update, I become more and more certain of it.

Our beloved new CEO knows nothing of the community that keeps this game running, and is approaching the process of adjusting, adding, updating, and tweaking with reckless aggression with no pause to observe the consequences each decision has on the ecosystem as a whole. I'm certain this is due to pressure from behind the curtain to make this game profitable quickly, presumably to avoid some other more immediate apocalyptic death scenario where the game is just scrapped altogether.

What's the most concerning to me, unfortunately, is the added and then subsequently removed announcement heading involving Wurm Unlimited. I find it very telling that *something* has been planned for it, even if Krister is not yet ready to formally declare those intentions. What's so angering about this betrayal of intentions to me is that it was a huge letdown and bad faith decision for the developers to stop pushing updates to WU. I can hardly think of any real reason they would need to do that beyond just a blatant attempt to drive players back to the monthly subscription model of the online clusters. Turns out the things players genuinely enjoy don't overlap much with Corporate's profitability goals. but now that the lemons have turned to lemonade, and the WU servers are preserved from all this Krister madness and it finally becomes a good thing for us players that they completely abandoned WU, suddenly they're interested in bringing WU "back into the fold," once again turning our lemonade back into lemons.

This just perfectly illustrates the selfish disregard for the players these corporations are trying to milk so aggressively, and it leaves a very sour taste in my mouth. I'm surprised to see myself writing these words, but I'm quickly reaching a point that I've heard echoed by other players here in the comments where I don't have any faith in the future of this game in any capacity, and I most certainly do not feel comfortable investing any more of my time or money into this game with the direction it's heading.

And as an aside, I want to make my opinion very clear on this: I've seen enough sunrises in my short life to know that when a CEO comes onto a public announcement and claims that FOUR senior staff members with exceptionally long tenures in those roles and an immense and obvious passion for the work they do all suddenly abdicate their position at the same time, for reasons that he is unwilling to disclose, it most certainly is not benign, and it most certainly IS due to something very alarming going on behind the scenes that we should all be concerned about.

Aside #2: On the flipside of the coin, if they do shut us down, I think WO would make an excellent candidate for one of those reverse engineered private server games that you see older games being revived as. I've learned that when you totally take the profit incentive out and let it be purely a passion project, you find some of the highest quality games I have ever had the pleasure of playing, and I would love to see Wurm get the opportunity to experience that some day.

Thank you for taking the time to read this opinion piece, and if you've made it this far, please do leave your thoughts and opinions for our consideration.

The lack of silver sinks becomes more obvious when it's not being traded through so fast, fewer things to spend silver on means money accumulates.

All that's needed is a new way to sink silver, such as purchaseable skins or other cosmetics, increase taxes, or reduce the amount of money "recycled" through the deed upkeep system. (therefore lowering the server coin pool)

None of this points to RMT being good for the game in any way, shape, or form, it just allowed money to flow as people cashed out IRL

Very interesting point. I never considered that all RMT really served to do in this case was just "stimulate" the economy by giving silver a reason to change hands when it otherwise would not.

I'm loving all the deep insights everyone is offering on the thread. Thank you all ❤️

  4. I really appreciate the input @Madnathand @Ekcin. I hadn't even considered it before now, but it does seem very plausible that with RMT gone as the biggest source of silver sink, that the currency is naturally inflating as a consequence. It's not how we typically consider inflation, but I think that would still qualify. Coins are stacking up more and more and their value is dropping as a result. I'm not suggesting its a hard fact, but definitely a strong possibility.

I don't really wanna talk about why i think the drake/scale praces went up anyome, because reasons and i think said in some other threads. But if only drake set you can find right now for sale is listed 3.2g (as i browsed) and you can't find anything else, then guess what: the comminty concensus or general sentinentms or what not about prices doesn't really matter much, untill you find someone else is selling it for 2g or the guy is willing to go lower. As always the sellers will value their drake higher then potentional buyers if you ask the community for opinion about what they think someone else should sell their drake set for.

I don't think there's going to be unique changes that would affect prices anytime soon.

I am curious, are you looking to buy a drake or scale set now and the current options are expensive for you?

No, I'm not in any rush to buy either, and I have the coin should I really want to. Just discussing the changes in prices in recent months.

Also, I think it's worth noting that the only drake and scale sets that stay up for any length of time on the market forum pages are the ones that don't sell because they're way overpriced. So those aren't the indicators I'm talking about.

It seems like there's been a lot of players leaving NFI for SFI.

Prices on NFI are vastly higher than on SFI - a drake hide set was going for 5+ gold on NFI a year ago, though I suspect prices may be a little lower now.

It could be that SFI prices are being influenced by the influx of "refugee players" from the steam side, who expect a far higher price.

That's a strong possibility that I haven't even considered. I wonder if the devs are about ready to merge the two clusters yet with people starting to drift between them anyway.

No one should be in charge for the prices of whatever in wurm, not the devs, not you, not or anyone else. You are in charge of the prices only of the items that you own, worst case scenario you won't sell the item if it's overpriced. If you wanna buy something for specific price advertise it and see how it's going, worst case scenario you won't buy anything if you offer too little in comparation to someone else.

Edit: THe problem might be the fake sellers, example, someone in trade chat is wts drake set for 5G and after a month of spaming and no luck finally proclaims that the said drake set been sold for 5G even tho no one asked for it. Then when the next time try to sell it on alt, would rafter to this "sale" as how much people pay for it currently.

No one is in charge of prices per say. It's a general consensus as to the worth of them. And from what I have gathered from the community at large, for example, drake hide sets were going for about 1 gold a year ago, but are now commonly seen listed for 2 gold these days. This is a measurable shift in the entire community's estimation of what these are worth, not just a single person trying to manipulate prices.

  8. Forgive the formatting, but I'm on mobile and was struck with the urge to get some community feedback.

I've owned both raw drake hide and dragon scale as well as a couple sets of each periodically here and there. One thing I've noticed that has been perplexing me is that in the last year or so, the price of these sets and the raw material has doubled.

I've noticed a general uptick in the price of most things recently, which I attributed to the recovering health of the economy post RMT. Even though it was quite some time ago, everything has been trending upwards ever since. However, it seems drake and dragon scale have far outrisen other commodities in similar categories.

This could be nothing more than subjective experience, so I'd love feedback as far as

    1) am I the only one who is noticing this trend?

2)If you feel the same, what do you attribute the rise in value to?

    And a bonus question:

    3) Do you feel like the devs are likely to make some kind of uniques change in the coming years that will completely devalue the game's current rarest and most sought after commodity?

Thanks for your thoughts in advance everyone :)

Next Era of wurm is to run around a wolf-man hybrid with sparkling effects during full moons..

While I appreciate the Rs3 getup wurm is cashing in on. Weird quirky cosmetics for real money; Clue scrolls and a sort of warbands system with the holy sites.

Can we get an OSRS version of wurm?

They already have that. It's called Wurm Unlimited lol

  10. As usual, @Madnath's post was of the highest quality and very well articulated. I do agree that impalongs are evolving to meet the needs of the current times and that's not a bad thing on it's face. From that point, I think @Blazecrazehit the nail on the head as to the fact that they are evolving to meet the needs of a changing target audience, from mostly beginners to mostly mid to late game players. I'd like to see future impalongs embrace this concept and make fresh and exciting changes that these more experienced players can benefit from.

One *perfect* example in my eyes is @Spacy's idea to allow those with higher skills to open private stalls or booths and ply their trade for fun or coin in a more individualized setting. I think it is probably the truest answer to @Vooch's question as to how we can breathe some new life into the impalong format. Like @Blazecrazementioned, getting your item imped to 70 is not the peak of most attendees' ambitions like it used to be. So not only do you satisfy the growing desire for higher than 70ql imps, but you give those who have worked long and hard to reach an impressive skill level in their passion skill a chance to put that skill on display, and of course potentially make some coin for their trouble.

Fantastic discussion everyone. Thank you so much for sharing your ideas and @Voochfor getting the ball rolling.

As for @Amantnovi's suspicions, I choose to believe that it was in good taste and not to be meanspirited to the Deliverance impalong or any other previous celebrations. Whether that's true or not, I think it's never a bad idea to clear the air and breathe new life into a topic. I don't think anyone in this thread or all of the forums would intentionally discount the incredible effort hosts have to put in to reward us all with such a fantastic experience year after year.

Sorry if I got a little aggressive with the tagging lol I felt that everyone has provided their own integral piece of the puzzle and it was my pleasure to try to wind it all together into a more complete thought.

Well... I won't explain it to everyone individually so I'll write here: standard price simply set in my opinion is 2 - 2.20g
Mine contains 3 parts that are rare. One of the 3 bones that cost me was the price of 30 - 35s. We all can count :) unless it doesn't matter to you, my friend, whether an item is rare or not... because it is for me. (if someone puts a regular scale set for sale for 3,5g, and the other person puts the same but rare - they will be at the same price?) It's not a price that can't be changed.  I like to trade and please don't go offtopic, if you don't want to buy - don't buy. Do not comment. best regards.

  14. @rangerklypfprobably wins the award for best comment. Very well thought out and explored. Really loved seeing everyone's responses though. It seems the most common opinion was that it was based exclusively on time spent playing/being around, but there were some interesting and unique takes.

Thank you everyone for offering your thoughts.

  15. A friend and I were joking around about me finally being able to apply to the "wurm elite" / "veterans" club since I've finally gotten my first 90 skill in leatherworking, but the discussion got me thinking and I thought it might be fun to hear back from the community, so this is my question to anyone wanting to offer their two cents:

What are the must-have qualities a player should have before you would consider them a "veteran"?

It's all a subjective opinion, but I thought it might be fun to try to quantify it. :)
