Highway: "la diagonale du fou" (bishop's diagonal) == Sonata - Trogdor - Lame horse

Recommended Posts

As the old Sunrise Valley deed has been disbanded the way is cleared for (one of) my old project:
I am working to create a straight highway linking Sonata to east coast of the big lake center Cadence.
This make long straight way for land travelers coming from south and east and connect to the straight tunnels under Cadence highest mountain.

Work is in progress but already mostly created. Several points are delayed:
- a temporary mine plunder deed at Sunrise Valley is in the way for less than one month, bypass easy quite straight trough de deed. Fence bashing, land shaping, ground paving and highway connection will be done after deed is disbanded
- a deed in the way (Angel's deep) prevent me to go on further south, especially for the straight highway eye connection, bypass follow existing squared cornering highway system. But it's only delayed as I have been granted to continue by Lame horse alliance.
- a meteorite impact at the highway has cause some damage ;)

peat waiting for some transmutation liquid...

Note: I know many deeder dont like the diagonal lanes has they cant make their town fences next to it. But that's mainly a wild forest area and traveling is much easier when straight.
I do like the diagonal that's why I named that highway "Diagonale du fou" which is an old french-swiss film name. Translation means "Bishop's diagonal" but is "Fool's diagonal" as the chess piece named "bishop" french name is "fool").

Thanks to Azzyj (Cotillion) to let me pass over 5 for mine deed (disbanded sunrise valley place).
Thanks to Liah for the transmutation liquid.
Thanks to Pelitra for help on manage the peat tiles.
Straight highway section direct from former Angel's deep place to former Soprano fully open.
With straight connection / continuation of trogdor tunnel highway.

Pelitra from Rosemary Reach (Eastern Pact alliance @ Lame horse) do have consider continuation of highway further south.
Goal is to provide easy way to cross the area with deeds which are beetween sunny shore and highest Cadence mountain.
That part of highway has many corners and crossings and relief change
Condition is to not bother anyone. Agreements required from owners of nearby deeds (blue) :
Here is a draft of what may be continuation (yellow).
Mainly crossing Rosmeray Reach, then crossing the bay west of Hobby's Annex with a 2wide bridge (which could replace the 1wide exisiting), then crosses woods west of Groningen an reach existing highway at Lame Horse bridge. Also Irkalla nearby south.

Note this is a draft, neither built nor planned are at the exact place

This is definitely a draft - but still very much subject to revision, and once that is done, to people agreeing to it.  And I think I was thinking the bridge would be quite a bit further west, if this ends up happening. So something similar to this might happen if we can get agreement from everyone this might impact.

Lame Horse Fairgrounds was a impalong place. I do suppose we can connect through if mayors is ok on that. Shortest path would be start very near bridge, which is already in the deed.
Groningen has several highway crossing it. If the maze bypass is not too far in the wood, can be interessting to connect to it for a convenient lame horse tunnel connection.
In the wood is a mine that has to be avoid, better pass east of it, which will make avoid touch Irkalla (which is at shore west).

Wrongest work is that crossing Rosemary reach. Citizen there (Pelitra and Jarmak). To avoid destroying the bypass may pass more on its western border but then the bay crossing could be ugly.
For that I think an all the long high bridge would mess the landscape / view from shore. An 'land bridge' (lane at level -5) will be quite invisible. But would block passage for big boats.
A combination of land bridge to connect an artificial small island then a correct bridge (not too high / long) to let big boat pass then maybe again land bridge could neither block passage nor landscape view.

Just a heads' up that we have a diagonal "land bridge" (7 deep I think) near Glasfryn and I am forever finding animals that have been accidentially dropped standing on the edge of it - usually those that have been collected from Free Animals - Bring Ropes - so I just return them there.

I take it that none of the other roads that your new highway intersects will be removed - personally I travel from the north and prefer "n/s" or "e/w" roads as they seem easier to navigate to me - that's not to say that I don't think your new road, that I rode along while I think  you were finishing on Sunday(?) isn't a decent idea.

Here is my 2 cents, do with it as you please. I don't like long diagonal roads. They cause so many problems when people try to build/fence along them. I personally don't see the need for a new road as what we have now works fine, I also want to eventually line the roads with lavender hedges which I wont be able to do if its a diagonal road.
Also the mayor of Groningen had planned on extending his deed now that Mourn has fallen. He doesn't get to play much as he is super busy with work, I don't think he will approve of what you have planned.

Thanks for returns.
No it will not be built so fast, far from. Was just sending the idea to see what would be advices on peopole nearby.
Thanks for info about that issue which seems same as the "house corner" trouble when leading animals (I already lost at a deed when crossing). Under water is also not well liked, I agree both diag and underwater is not a good combination.
Only roads I use to remove are if they are really in double few tiles aside, which seems not be the case there, no highway on the part I explored, It's mostly wild forest part.
But well, if there is an extension of Groningen then seems me no way to build it.

I feel sorry for all owners of deeds through which the diagonal road passes.

A small area south of Hobby Annex and to the West of Groningen has been deeded - Wildenwood, by Wilde (I'm friends with this player). This is partly in the way of the lower diagonal connector (I had scoped out such a path when looking for the westerly-most of the proposed easements above. After talking with Hobby and learning what Groningen's preferences are for the area second hand, I feel that the will to build additional highways through the area does not have much support at this time - locals have other preferences about their deeded areas and spaces adjacent.
