Posted July 23, 2012 (edited) This is the signup thread for the boat racing taking place at the Summer Festival this year at the Guild of Artificers. They will be exciting to compete in and to watch! There will be 3 different types of boat race at the festival, all organised by me. You can sign up for any of the races in this thread - and I'll also post details about racing here too. Please use the main Summer Festival thread for general discussion and feel free to PM me if you have any questions. The festival runs from Friday 27th July to Sunday 29th July. I'm hoping to run races 1 and 3 on Saturday afternoon and race 2 on Sunday evening. These times however are NOT finalised. All times are/will be GMT and race 2 may be moved to Saturday afternoon/evening, leaving Sunday evening as a "backup slot."You can view rules for the racing here. It's important that you read through them before races start. Don't worry though, they aren't long and are relatively obvious stuff. If there's anything you're unsure about then I can answer questions in-game.To apply for a race you should fill out one of the forms in this post and reply to this thread with it.Anyhow, now for race details.1. Long sailboat raceThis will be a single-handed sailboat race set over a long course. The prize for the victor is a Caravel!Competitors will have to sail around a course of ~15 minutes in length, rounding buoys and pieces of land. The start will be on the water and I aim to run 3 separate "rounds" of this race.2. Short sailboat raceThis will be a race for teams of 5, around a shorter course nearer the shore. I am to run 3 rounds for this race. The prize for the winning team is a Knarr! The course will be of ~10 minutes in length. The start will be in "Le Mans" style from the shore - and all 5 team members have to be onboard the boat before you start... making this race one for the spectators too!! xDAs for applying, there are 3 options. You can either apply with your own full team (minimum 5 people, you can have reserves,) apply with a partial team (2-4 people) or apply on your own. Race staff will then work together to make sure that everybody is a member of a full team and that nobody will miss out. Your team Captain is responsible for organisation and he is who race staff will talk to if necessary; however, any team member may helm the boat on the day.3. Rowing boat raceThis race will be for new players only. If you enter in race 3 you may not apply for races 1 or 2. The prize is a sailboat - something worthwhile to any new player! The race will be around maple island with a water start. I intend to only do 1 round.Race Courses for today:Direct Link: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/51077311/Map%20Dump%20SSR.pngDirect Link: https://dl.dropbox.c...ap Dump RBR.pngI hope to see you there! More details are in the posts below. Links:How to applyI'm also in need of more race staff. ~4 people are needed to help out on the day. Posted July 23, 2012 (edited) ApplicationsPlease fill out forms with in game names. For race 2, you will need to change the name of your boat to your Team Name. You may apply for Race 1 and 2 or race 3. Every human being may only apply with one account! So no alts and double-entries.You don't strictly have to apply for a race here on the forums - however, it makes the life of race staff a lot easier to not have to deal with lots of late entries!!Post forms in reply to this topic. To acknowledge whether or not I've seen and recorded information from your post I will "like" it. ***Race 1 LSR ApplicationName:Boat Name:***Race 2 SSR Full Team ApplicationTeam Name:Number of Team Members:Team Captain:Team Members:----Race 2 SSR Partial Team ApplicationTeam Name:Number of Team Members:Team Captain:Team Members:---Race 2 SSR Solo ApplicationName:***Race 3 RBR ApplicationName:Do I need to borrow a rowing boat? Posted July 28, 2012 Why complicate this with teams and all this? I dont have a team and i dont want to join 1. I want to do this in a boat by myself
Posted July 28, 2012 (edited) I'll race in the Long Sailboat Race. I have my own boat, and I'll be teaming with Alyeska unless it's not allowed then. Otherwise, one of us will drive the boat by ourselves.Boat name is the Black Swan. Edited July 28, 2012 by Xallo

Otherwise, one of us will drive the boat by ourselves.Boat name is the Black Swan.Sadly it wouldn't be allowed because having more than one person in a boat increases its speed. You can team up in tomorrow's short race though Official start time for today will be 8pm GMT, a little over an hour from now. Everything should last for upto an hour and a half
Posted July 29, 2012 (edited) Results from yesterday:1 Rolandthian2 Atazs3 Xallo4 Rixk5 Ambersummers- Deathlemming7 Eleangel8 SerpentariusI had some positive feedback from racers yesterday. The course was supposed to be of around 15 minutes in length - however, due to light winds, it was closer to 25 minutes in length, making for two longer and very tense rounds of racing. Congratulations to the winners and well done to all who took part Today's racing will take place from 7pm GMT - slightly earlier as some people may have jobs to go to tomorrow. I will publish the course for the short sailboat race later. I imagine that the first race will be at 7:30pm, because we have to get the logistics of shore starts organised first!! I expect to finish the sailboat race by 9:00pm GMT, the rowing boat race will be immediately after that. I also want to try and video record the racing - the short sailboat race will happen close to the shore, making it ideal for spectators and a Youtube upload. The shore start will be total chaos - people will have to run around the festival site to get to their boats - I can't wait to watch it Lastly, the short sailboat race requires teams of people. So that we can get more boats on the water, I may will change the team size from 5 to 3. Edited July 29, 2012 by Docterchese
