Wurm Launcher won't even start (SOLVED)

Recommended Posts

The launcher window never shows up. No error message, no log, nothing. It's just the Java splash, then "Verifying application" and then the window disapppears and nothing happens.
I've tried every fix I could find on the forum or elsewhere online.

Disabling AV doesn't help.
Reinstalling Java doesn't help.
Deleting Wurm in javaws -viewer doesn't help.
I've pretty much given up :(

I'm on Windows 10 (no Creators Update yet)

Java 8 Version 131

Did you use the 64bit version of java? If you use a 32bit browser then the java website will default download the 32bit java so you might have to download the 64bit one manually. (this is for 64bit systems that is)

Can you give more details about your hardware?  run dxdiag in the start menu search/run field.  Processor, ram, graphics card, bios info... everything can help because often it's the smallest detail that's causing the issue.  It would help as well to know if your on integrated or 3rd party graphics card such as a n nvidia or radeon.. which the dxdiag info would give.

have you tried to run the game directly? (from console or desktop shortcut), does it still stop at 'verifying application..'?
if yes.. you could just watch a youtube video for fixing that, either way keep us updated if you want more help or if you've solved it, always good to share how..

"C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.8.0_131\bin\javaws.exe" http://www.wurmonline.com/client/wurmclient.jnlp

IT WORKED! I don't understand how this worked but it did. I've always ran Wurm from the jnlp file downloaded from the website and it always worked. Thanks a lot guys!

After running this Wurm created an actual shortcut on my desktop but once again it didn't work. The 'official' shortcut was trying to run a 32-bit version which for some reason doesn't work at all on my system anymore (it used to show a warning message but it would start). After changing the shortcut to run the 64-bit version it works normally.

Simplified solution for anyone else having this issue in the future:
1. Right click your desktop

2. Create a new shortcut, in the first window you need to paste "C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.8.0_131\bin\javaws.exe" http://www.wurmonline.com/client/wurmclient.jnlp (the ...\Program Files\Java\jre1.8.0_131\... part will change depending on your Java version, for 32-bit version on a 64-bit system it will be "Program Files (x86)" )

3. Double click the shortcut and enjoy the game !
