  1. I suppose it would be plausible to convert one of the northern and one of the southern maps to incorporate an arctic / antarctic region, though I'm not sure how technically difficult it would be to effect only part of a map with environmental effects like snow and ice, instead of dedicating a map to it. Might be doable.
  2. I'm not sure if this has been suggested before, but had this idea for a new northern map, with an arctic biome / theme. The basic concept for this was to have an incredibly harsh area for the well established veteran players, where it would be a real struggle to survive. There are many environmental possibilities for such a biome, here are a few possibilities: Traditional forms of water gathering do not work. Wells, fountains etc... freeze, so the only way to get water is to gather snow and melt it in a container within a heat generating object. Layers upon layers of snow make terraforming far trickier, meaning you don't get the foundation for heavy structures made from stone Possibility of working with ice as a new material - create igloos, sculptures etc... could also be tied to a new ice sculpting skill Getting to the new continent is not trivial - water becomes ice and is not navigatable with traditional ships - shipbreakers with steel hulls could be added to provide a method of navigation possibility of including a temperature mechanic and weather factors - outside during a snowstorm? wait too long without shelter and you will start to take hypothermia damage from a debuff. Offset this by getting yourself inside of a shelter. warm yourself by a fire to remove the debuff could also introduce polar animals (arctic fox, wolf, snow leopard, polar bears) that provide weather resistant hides, increasing the time you can be outside during a storm, scaling on quality priests could have additional enchantments to offset cold debuff In an incredibly cold region, decay could be reduced, particularly for perishable objects In such an inhospitable region, trees are rare, and arable land is rarer. Inventive ways of growing need to be created (cloth coverings to protect crops, specific weather resistant crops need to be grown). more priest spells to protect crops or manage temperature levels around crops could be included I thought this might be a fun idea for the veterans to give them a challenge, or pull some old, experienced players back in, and some new flavour to the game. I'm aware this would be a pretty big undertaking, designing and balancing the new systems would eat up a lot of development time, but I figured I'd post it just to see how people would feel about this as a concept.
  3. From what I've read, seen and heard from people talking in-game there seems to be some confusion about exactly what we have, what we want, and what we need, especially from Rolf's perspective. I'm not exactly a 'new' or 'old' player, and I've found a number of things that I still want to do, but that will inevitably run out eventually. Just to clearly state my position, I play this game for the crafting. I have no desire to pvp, and never will have a desire to pvp. I've tried it in the past, discovered it was not for me, and I latched onto this game for other reasons. That makes me biased. But I still pay for this game, and the right to be a crafter and nothing else. There are definitely others like me, I've met plenty in-game who share my views. We are here. Just like the pvpers are here too. I have seen lately very little in the ways of expansion for the crafters. Some promises have been made, but not very much actual substance or even signs of progress to fulfill those promises. These forums are ultimately a closed circuit which many of the wurm players don't frequent and so don't share their views and opinions. Wouldn't it make sense to say, once a month, have an In-game census, something fairly simple as maybe a drop down menu, or even multiple choice buttons just to get the views of the people who actually play the game, rather then just the views of the people who frequent the forums? If you want people to participate, first you have to make it convenient for them to do so. To be frank, I'm surprised that at this point in the game there isn't an obvious way in-game to submit opinions about the direction the game should be going in. If there is indeed some kind of system in place, it's not well enough pointed out, because I haven't come across anything for all the time I've been playing. Besides that, on the forums there is too much to-ing and fro-ing between people who are trying to disprove each others points and clarify their own which gets in the way of gathering information. Discussion is important for developing ideas, but to get information on what people actually want you have to cut out the discussion and pool data first. Anyway, personally I agree with the point that pvp is getting too much attention, and crafters suffer for it. I hope others share this opinion and voice it in one form or another so we can address the concerns people have and hopefully keep as many people as we can happy.
