  1. Is 'unlimited technical issues' forum only related to things broken specifically or what? not clear why this thread was moved here
  2. sorry my confused response please ignore
  3. When one hits 'start server' (sorry I cant load my launcher at the moment to verify if that is the exact term and I forget) a console window pops up and it starts the server, as soon as the server is loaded that console window closes. I need to know where the text that shows up in that console window is stored OR if there is a way I can get it to dump to a text file each time it does run. Thanks
  4. I am 99% sure its a server issue I want to look at. I very much doubt the console window at startup of a server is gamer profile related. I don't know what 'dedicated server' means or if I did that regardless I will double check but the logs I saw had nothing in the them. Console window by the way is what flashes up when you start a server, said console window looks like CMD window or a .BAT file script after running it. Having that part clear 'should' reduce your confusion because I think that 'console window' is the only window of its kind in the entire Wurm Launcher operation.
  5. but again. I ask WHICH log files? Event Viewer? log files in my game directory? log files in java because I looked in Event Viewer and in my game directory and there is no posting of any error anywhere. 'Start Server'? not sure I cant open launcher to verify. This question is getting complicated it sounds like. If I could get exactly what is spit out of that console dumped to a file or something THAT is what I need to see
  6. let me ask it differently When the launcher used to load and I start the solo single player server a black console window comes up with a very long message and then that console window closes. I want that message, where is that message stored.
  7. For clarity I am not asking in order to get my launcher to load but the curiosity of why it isn't working is killing me. So I see an error flash on the console screen then the console goes away. I need to grab that error...how...where
  8. yeah I wouldnt call that information 'simple'. I know you didnt but I think we have ventured out of 'simple' land now
  9. My core motivation is not so much to get my game running but rather think about ways we can make it easy for everyone including new players who are used to hitting one button for single player experience.
  10. I have no idea what that even means. Is it to early for me to say 'see this is what I have been trying to say...its not simple for the average gamer'
  11. if this is accurate I am all for a 3rd tab called 'single player', make the IP textbox not visible and in the back end make it 0.0.0.0. any reason why this would be a bad idea?
  12. Now I am officially confused and this is why I am advocating a change to the launcher to make this easier for single players. Its already gone beyond 'easy' Example: I was just told in this forum that the IP that wurm needs never changes even if I have Dynamic IP address. am I understanding that now I need to change the IP when the dynamic changes?
  13. There are a lot of things the developers could work on. The game itself is pretty solid but if I was on the team I would suggest scripting out a solution for the IP for single player would be easy and helpful. make the textbox disabled perhaps or maybe not even visibile and create a third tab called 'single player'
  14. So as I understand most homes have Dynamic IP address (and mine does). Thus the IP would often change. This is done for security reasons and requesting a Static IP address from your internet provider as I understand costs more. So the question is this: If I play solo on my home server will have to change that IP address in the launcher to the new address each time it changes.
  15. makes it not funn...what? sorry I only understood your first comment I have never said anything on these forums that I can think of that was meant to be anything other than dead serious.
  16. I ended up having to write a bad review for this game. I think its the only bad review I have written for any game in my Steam Collection. I just wrote it now. I do wish the community was a bit better around my explicit concerns I think it would have made the entire experience better for everyone involved but I cant in good faith write a good review at this time
  17. I think your missing what I meant. This game is not designed for a 'few weeks' of play I have no idea where you got the idea that Wurm Unlimited had anywhere even close to that in mind from a design perspective. Unlike many other Multiplayer games I think this game is specifically designed to have a larger player investment in time then most. I am not saying that as a bad thing I am just saying 'a few weeks' doesnt even come close to the design objective here
  18. i pretty much disagree with everything you are saying. 'a few weeks'??? what the...no....just not even
  19. this just falls in line with my developing theory that wurmains feel that whatever the developers create is perfect and should not be changed under any condition. wat ever bro
  20. besides....are admins somehow magically immune to ever being a hacker themselves? Basically the world and all the characters in the map is already are backup-able (is that a word). Its just a matter of WHO can do it. The admin who is going to disappear next week or the player who when the admin shuts down the server can then find a new admin to host the database he just downloaded or both plus. exactly what kind of hacks are we talking about? the kind that nobody would care about other than PvP players and those who make a life concerned with what others do OR are we worried about hard drive wipes?
  21. yeah I agree UI is not the (or even one of the) most important aspect of game play. A lot of those AAA titles I find terrible but they have good UI
  22. Yes I agree nobody should be surprised however I also think given the fact that projects in Wurm can take upwards to a year of real life playing that the ability to easily export the database from a server you are on is a reasonable ask more so than excepting such features from a COD server in which game 'projects' take about 10 mins. With that said, given my personal experience I would say unless you know networking you are also putting yourself at high risk with a single player experience. More over do not do a clean wipe without backuping all that needs to be backed up and be ready for something to not work because my world on reset was not correct
