  1. I've not posted so far but I have been following this discussion.  When it comes to non-prems being allowed to plant deeds I am on the fence with Aeris and Urman, in that both sides have their positives and negatives and both have multiple workable solutions.  As_I_Decay seems to enjoy posting how easy it is to buy an alt with practically no extra outlay, and I think this may be the best solution.

Firstly, make settlement forms only purchasable by premium accounts.  A group of non-prems wish to have a deed for whatever reason.  One of them pays for a premium character (either their own or an alt) for 1 month and 5s, then they sell the referral (or possibly give the referral to somebody they trust to give them the 5s back).  That leaves them with one character with a months premium time and ~10-12s which allows them to buy a settlement form (assuming Othob Rithol's suggestion for lowering the cost to 5s isn't implemented).  They plant the deed, send out the invites, set the appropriate permissions and then do whatever they want with the premium character.  From then on they can either earn silver by doing jobs or buying it from the shop in order to pay for upkeep.  Assuming they never buy silver from the shop this leaves them limited when it comes to the size of the deed.

Rolf has his (real world) money, and the non-prems have their deed until such a time that they decide to leave or go premium full-time.  Those who wish to play without paying anything can still continue to do so either out against the elements, or within a welcoming village.  For those who wish to setup their own village 10e is a very small outlay for unlimited playing time, if you're willing to put the effort in.

That's the workaround within the current game framework, assuming this idea is acceptable it could easily be streamlined even further, only allow them to pay for a deed with money bought from the shop.  If it's not possible to track this then add a settlement form to the Wurm shop that can be bought by non-premium accounts for 10e (and prevent purchasing them from traders).  The workaround would then be a positive push towards getting a player to buy premium time, since it would be more economical to pay for a premium account rather than paying for a form.  But the difference is small enough as to not persecute non-prems.

  2. I have been one of the others working on it, although I haven't been able to dedicate as much time as some of the others.  I have visited regularly though so I can give a little update on Malaclypse's post above.

All of the rock tiles in the way have now been mined out leaving a 6-tile wide tunnel with a 90 degree right turn (or left if you're heading in from the sea).  There are currently 11 iron veins in the way that need mining out, one has already gone and another has had a few thousand ore removed.  After that comes the floor lowering and ceiling raising.

As it is you can sail a small vessel all the way through, with only a little dragging required.

  3. If Rolf truly intends to do what the majority of players wants then go for the polling idea. But, if he intends to follow his own whim/master plan regardless of what the player base wants then a pole is a waste of time.
It's not as black and white as that, there is a middle ground.  Player reaction doesn't have to force development\be ignored, it can also help to guide decisions.  The devs may have a new feature they are definitely going to add but are unsure of the best way to introduce it.  Aesthetics could also play a part.  Sometimes it's just useful to ask a general question that isn't linked to any particular idea to try and work out where everyone stands.

+1 to the idea.  Although the point about pop-ups is a good one.  I don't like the idea of a separate game object as that would be based on a specific location, but a friendlier way of doing it might be to have a message appear in Event on log-in ("A new poll awaits your opinion."), then players type /poll if they want to bring up the dialog box to see the question and vote.

  4. Mthec - Thanks for the input :)

some of your list looks wrong

e.g. Green apples should make a pile (already had these in mine) also their icon is marked in mine as missing

and Sheet, i have as cotton sheet

It's marked as "sheet, cotton" in-game but I'm not fussed either way.   :)

    As for apples:

    appleicon.jpg

    The icon is present.

And for the piles I see I made a mistake with my forum code, NA and Problem-1 should be the other way around sorry.  I'm getting a pile model with no texture (single apple is textured fine):

    EDIT:

I've also caught and verified the following fish today:

    Brook Trout

    Catfish

    Perch

    Pike

All have icon, single and pile models.

    Problem-1 - Missing Texture.

Problem-2 - It's the correct model, but it stands on end rather than lying flat.

Problem-3 - Not sure if this one is a problem, uses same model as single item.

  6. I believe high level Love allows you to see 'minor' achievements of your friends, or maybe anyone, i'm not sure.

Crest lives not far from me, but i know 100% he wasn't in my local, or i didnt' have a bugged local as where he was, was 130 tiles or so away; while i was platesmithing i got the event message:

    [11:13:29] Crest creates a knarr.

I dunno if this is related to meditating or not, but other paths have something like this so maybe?

I had a similar event message the other day:

    [21:58:52] Hearteternal creates a colossus.

I thought it was a standard message you receive when somebody finishes a colossus, but it is worded the same as yours (which may of course mean absolutely nothing).  She isn't on my friends list nor an ally of my deed.  Her deed is located within easy walking distance of mine but out of local range, and I am Giving (level 6).  Will keep an eye out for future messages.

  7. I voted yes.

I currently live on Golden Valley and am a member of the PCG Village.  I have been very interested in what premium has to offer (one of our previous members has some pretty great tales) however if I were to move on it would mean leaving the village behind, something which I am very reluctant to do since it would make things harder for them with one less dedicated member.

If this change were to occur though I would almost certainly start paying for premium membership, and I'm sure one or two other members would too.  Starting a village where premium members can give proper guidance to newcomers would be an exciting prospect.  There are probably others who are currently on GV in a similar situation, who if given this opportunity would start paying.  I very much enjoyed reading the Freedom with Newbies thread which pretty much covered all aspects of the idea, there are bound to be some side-effects to this change, but like many others in that thread I think the benefits would far out weigh the drawbacks.
