  1. this would be a third-party initiative, not something the devs would do.

I could set up such a platform myself, but this would not yield much results I think, since this way the devs would still have to do all the work of implementing the new items into the game, rather than (as was my original idea) the system setting up the appropriate code so the devs only have to review it and balance out some values, which takes a whole lot less time than adding all the code and models manually.

Although, if I see there is support from the players I could try to set up something, and see where it goes :) But ultimately we'd at least need backing from the devs in terms of procedures for accepting new items, player verification, and things like that.

  2. maybe time for a new server host?  really i have never heard of a game failing so often.  this is a bit ridiculous

If you had read the latest forum posts, they have already announced they're planning to move to different servers. I know we're all frustrated with the downtime but stop making statements out of thin air.

EDIT: Serpentarius you were faster ^^

  3. adding the functionality to an existing tool? Pliers, branding iron or something? I'll throw realism to the wind

I'd think something like a chisel to engrave stone and iron items and a carving knife to engrave wooden items or something like that, existing tools + a bit more realism than using a branding iron to engrave your tools xd

But anyway, +1 for engraving from me :)

  4. Say a vetted process of adding more flora and fauna to the game?

Or at least for mobs and items where the basic fnctionality is already ingame.

I hadn't even considered mobs.. But would be a cool idea too. I was mainly thinking about crafting objects, so you'd basically get something like that new crafting window but instead of it saying what you need you can just fill in what the object is and what it will need :)

Perhaps even upload the appropriate gfx files for review.

Doubt that's gonna happen, with artist copyright and stuff like that.

  5. So I've been playing with this idea a lot, got talking about it with another player and they liked it so I thought, let's put it on the forum :P

This is not an idea for ingame items or interfaces or something, but I was thinking of an external application/webpage where users can put together an object they like. They give it a name and description, define what it would need to be crafted, if it's a tool what it can be used for to make.. Basically all properties of the current objects in Wurm can be set. Then, when they've created the object, they can submit it to the system and then other players can vote on it. Objects with a high number of votes go to the devs and they will then decide if it should get implemented in the game or not. This could happen in approval rounds, like the Steam Greenlight system, or could happen once an objects reaches a certain number of votes.

For the dev side, depending on how the item/crafting database is built up this program could create the necessary game code for them automatically upon submitting, so that it just has to be activated or inserted in the database. An expansion of this concept is that the system could even support uploading of proposed icons and maybe even 3d models (e.g. SketchUp or Blender models) so that a designer can use these to base the game model on, to make the additional workload as little as possible.

The aim of this concept is to increase the number of craftable items and create a greater variety of objects in Wurm, cause - let's face it - seeing the same statue over and over again.. Well let's just say it'd be cool if we could really make whatever we want, in the pretty much literal sense of the word. :D Now I know this wouldn't be something that could be created in a moment, but I do think a game like Wurm, using creativity and freedom as their main hook, would receive a huge benefit from something like this in the long run.

  6. A little bump because we're still looking. Two of our new players left again so there's again more room for some new people. We welcome all kinds of players, wether you're completely new to Wurm or you have been playing for years, wether you're looking for a permanent home or just a place to learn the ropes before you venture out on your own :)

  7. You can also check if you maybe have 2 graphics cards installed. I have both the integrated Intel Iris Graphics chip on my processor, and an nVidia GeForce which is way better than the Intel chip. I had set Java to run on nVidia graphics, but since the update I have to manually tell Wurm to run using the nVidia card when I start it. If I run it by just double-clicking the shortcut icon, it runs on Intel which as far as I know comes with some really weird glitches.

  8. Hello there and welcome to Storms Landing.

We're a newly founded village in the north of Release. We're still undergoing heavy development and building projects. We have a small iron mine which we're expanding rapidly. We are building a harbor area, a vineyard and a tree plantation. There is a small farm, a blacksmith workshop and a few other buildings available for shared use. We don't have room for private buildings, but there is a space available for land expansion, provided there is enough interest and funds.

Storms Landing doesn't aim to be the biggest and bestest in the world. We just want to build a small, cozy home for a few players who like a place to call home and to work on together. There are 8 spots available for citizenship, if you want to be one of them please send me a message through the forum or reply on this topic.

We don't ask you to stay with us forever, so new players who want to take some time to learn the ins and outs of the village life in Wurm are welcome too. We do ask that you put some effort in the village, and help out where you can.

The village is located at X30, Y5, right here on this map. If you have any other question, contact me through the forum message system and I will answer as soon as I can.

  9. A friend and I have started a village not far north of Glittershore. We are now looking for a few new (or not so new) players to join us and help us create a nice place to live.

We haven't yet formally created the settlement, but we are hard at work to create the necessary buildings and objects to make the village monster-free and safe. But don't worry, we have guards so the monsters wouldn't get too close.

We have an iron mine for mining and smithing, and there is a gold mine nearby. We're also located very close to spawning places for a lot of monsters, so hunting is an option. Lastly, we're right next to the ocean with a large harbor area in development, so once we finish our fleet there will be easy access to basically every location on Epic.
