Seriously +1. And considering that poster claims to never leave thier deed anyway and they've only been here for, as they claim 20 or so days, it's not even relevant.

What does it matter if they've been playing 20 days or 5 years? They still pay for the game.

I've only been playing for about 50 days, and I am not claiming 'this is a survival game!!1111one' and acting like we should just suck it up without any perspective on how the game was before. I hate the change, sure, but as a newbie as well, it's a little odd to be claiming we know how it's 'supposed to be'.

Fair enough, and he did seem to think everyone should be playing "his way", but even if he had been playing the game for 5 years, it still would be a nonsense post on his part. ;)

Honestly, all I can see this change doing is making a large portion of the population, even more isolationist as everyone just walls in and refuses to leave their deed. This isn't good, all around. The hit on commerce will be immense.

So true. And what do we need to buy silver for, if not to buy shiny new things from merchants? There will be no need to get more silver than needed to pay your deed costs (unless you do a lot of mailing and not everything can be mailed). Or do much but build houses and farm. Wurm will be come a chatty Sims, and CodeClub will make less money. (Sorry to be doom-prophesying but that's how it looks right now)

Just in case you all forgot:

WURM IS A SURVIVAL GAME.

I refuse to believe that all "PvE" players want the game to be as easy as possible. You already have it easy unless you're going into the wilderness without nothing at all and on your own. Some people consider that fun too.

It makes good sense that carnivores would hunt animals. If the team feels confident that the server can now handle that extra level of simulation, then sure why not. It means we might actually see some predators that are not permanently "starving".

This does not make wurm any more like a survival game.

It just turns it into a game with no passive mobs except unicorns.

How does that make wurm any harder to survive, the agro mobs are still the same as they always were? (and possibly weaker, since they now fight passives and can be wounded)

I spend about 10s a week in Blossom, and a few in Kingsford. If it comes down to the point that I can't even travel on the HIGHWAYS without my cart animals being slaughtered, guess how much silver I spend per week at Blossom? That's right. Zero.

Code Club loses out because I don't buy the silver, and YOU, the other players lose out because I don't buy your stuff.

This has much higher ramifications than simple PVE. So all those inane cries of 'This is a Player vs ENVIRONMENT game, suck it up!' Can go diddle a tree knot until they get spinters. You aren't seeing beyond your nose, or realizing the overwhelming negative impact this will have on both the real world economics for Code Club and the in game economics for your fellow players.

Slow wagons are already big trouble for low fighting skill player if attacked. Now if agro atacks your hitched horse/bison, with lower fs you are dead for sure, with no chance to escape. And then lead new horses/bisons  to place of death to get your gear from corpse, wagons /cart but get attacked by more mobs, and again lost animals and skils. that can be repeated few times. Looks like wurm is closing its doors to new players.

-10 for this update

Share 1s out of those 10s and I will escort and protect your convoy to and from blossom ;)

Some opportunities are closing, some others are opening. ;) Finally people grinding out FS will be able to make a coin out of their skill too. Not only smiths. ;)

Actually, unicorns will be attacked as well. So bye bye to those too.

Unicorns are pretty tough, so they are probably going to survive decently well.

What would it even bring to the exprience? 99% of the time, when a cat is attacking a deer out in some random forest, noone will be there to witness it. Just a waste of server resources surely, however small. And then one respawns elsewhere instantly...Um woo? And if you do happen to witness it, that's one less animal in the area you get to kill? Um...wooo?

And I agree it's strange that after a bug that played about with animals for days, another change comes up in its place.

Must resist the temptation to "tweak" things when you happen to have to go into the code to fix something. :)

I have an idea on why the devs would force this update on us without previous announcement.

It was something they really wanted to do (no idea why), but were not sure about our reaction towards it.

So what should we (devs) do? Let's wait for April Fool's day to implement this and if the reaction of the players is not accordingly as we want, let's tell them it was just an April Fool's joke.

Killing off people's bison is not an April Fools joke, in any stretch of the imagination.

The only fools here, methinks, are us.

Works out I won't be spending silver on replacements which means I won't be buying silver to replace them. That's just my stance on the matter though.

Bisons are pretty tanky animals, maybe you should... I don't know... breed them?

yeah a breeding system would be great, you could breed them so they get more speed for example, or even BETTER TRAITS FOR FIGHTING.

IF ONLY we had such a breeding system maybe people would not moan so much about this update.

"She will give birth in about 8."

Yeah, I can see someone losing 20 pair of mounts before the birth. Better start mass breeding now...

I understand how this update pisses off a lot of people, on the forums at least. The annoyed people are always more vocal.

My personal opinion is that the freedom servers are too easy, there is NO DANGER at all, no incentive to pay attention to anything, and it's the reason I keep quitting wurm for months on end.

I LIKE this update, the smart players will adapt I'm sure of it.

A sandbox game isn't just your sandbox, it's everyone's and I know other players who also welcome this update.

Assuming this isn't an April Fools joke,

I'm OK with the "change itself", but you gotta let people know in ADVANCE....so we can acclimate to the new PHYSICS of the virtual worlds.

If this is April Fools, then hats off, because you coded it to look like Bison and Cows and other things are dead, and you are going to resurrect them somehow after today?  Thats a lot of forethought.....but I see our creature ratio on our deed is the same as last night, so I'm thinking the animals that are 'lying down' will get up again soon enough.

If not, you might've lost a few paying customers, because we don't spend our time AND OUR MONEY to put up with this kind of crap.  LOL

This wasn't an April Fools joke. An April Fools joke would have been something cosmetic, like changing everyone over to chickens for the day.

This was just another horrible implementation not thought out.
