Creature ai and email management

Recommended Posts

I really hope the new ai isn't a prank on the dev's part. Animal ai like this will definitely add something good to the game... if not just amusement, time for some popcorn, and a few extra pens with non-predators and predators. xP

And for those  worrying about their cart-pullers and wagons getting smashed, just use noobs, they're faster and replaceable.

This has to be an April Fools.

You already had bugged AI, and instead of fixing that, and obtaining verification of the fix, you add more varialbes to that AI.

Which animals are considered prey? All non-aggros? I have head unicorns are also being attacked... what about normal horses?

Which animals are considered predators? All aggro creatures? All non-humanoids?

Are trolls predators?

Do trolls still bash?

Will trolls attack on-deed animals?

Will trolls bash through walls to get to those animals?

You see the problem here?

Unfortunately, if this was an aprils fool, alot of people would have to be in on it given the threads that were popping up about it

Please tell me this is a (very bad) April Fools.

I just hit 20.10 mind logic, my FS is 2 or such, can't travel anymore because my bisons are going to be attacked? or my horses?

If is true, I'm sorry to tell you, but could you find some sane persons to work for CodeClub and decide what updates ahould be implemented?

Over the past 15 years or so of my online gaming "career", I've seen companies make some really dumb decisions, and then make dumber decisions on how to best implement it on the live servers.

This is one of them.  Quite high on the list too, the kind that makes one wonder "Are they trying to cull the player population?"

  • The command used to set the email for an account, /changeemail now requires a password and brings up a popup window. You may also set your password retrieval information there now. That doesn't mean it is now safe to share your hash.

Excuse my interference, just made an enhancement that should have been put there in my opinion.

Certain selected creatures such as deer and bison are now considered prey and may now be hunted by carnivores while trying to avoid them.

I think that's a great chance - brings an extra layer of realism to the game - like it.

Carnivores attacking passive animals... another update that looks like it was made by someone who has their mind set on some kind of strange reality that is totally different from the actual game they are developing, lol.

There's nothing wrong with the idea, but the implementation just makes me wonder how much brainstorming and "what if" questioning actually happens when a patch is being developed.

When making changes to the game, please consider one thing first before you add them...

This is a game, is what I'm going to add fun?

I like the change but first ensure that it doesn't attack bison/horses otherwise people will whine.  ;)

I don't mind them getting attacked but having one killed hitched on a cart can get you in a bind when you are a long ways from home.

I swear WurmOnline is just an insane psychological experiment, where they are testing how much it takes to get PvE-players to stop playing! Throw in some pretty things which we do love every now and then, just to drag out the pain... then let trolls bash fences, nerf guards, add sharks, make carnivors attack and eat "prey" (aka our cart/wagon-animals), and we are still waiting for the jumping and flying - in general make us all feel we have to live on heavily fortified deeds, locking animals inside when logging off, never leaving deed unless we "have" to, and low skilled players needing escorts while travelling.... yeah, sounds like amazing PvE-fun!

Congratulations, you finally succeeded in throwing out a patch where I can't even be bothered to log in and save my animals (hitched to carts and wagons, and not on deed when servers went down). There is just no point in adapting for me anymore, as it just becomes more and more obvious, that we aren't supposed to have fun when we play on PvE-servers. It is all supposed to be stress, chores, risk, risk and more risk - and the increasing worry about what they are going to throw at you next.

Just in case you all forgot:

WURM IS A SURVIVAL GAME.

I refuse to believe that all "PvE" players want the game to be as easy as possible. You already have it easy unless you're going into the wilderness without nothing at all and on your own. Some people consider that fun too.

It makes good sense that carnivores would hunt animals. If the team feels confident that the server can now handle that extra level of simulation, then sure why not. It means we might actually see some predators that are not permanently "starving".

Going to be fun only being able to get FS from killing alts. With everything attacking your horse, say goodbye to your FS gains (and your horse).

No one plays a game when it's not fun any more.

You can make the text as large as you want, but that won't change the simple fact that a game is meant to be enjoyable.

There's no sense to implementing carnivores attacking mobs. Hurts newbies, no advance warning, extra load on server (wasn't the entire point of decreasing ai on bred animals for this?), nerf of leaving wagons out for..what reason? Realism sure, but even if you're trying to do realism, there's better and more important things to look at, like perhaps animals breeding in the wild instead of being spawned.

And on april 1st of all days, really? I thought we were done with stupid ninja nerf style patching. Instead we get a cool idea "mobs chasing other mobs" and now it's "mobs eating your hitched animals who can't get away". Have fun trying to get that wagon/cart back to home when you've loaded it up and lost your mounts.

This could be nice BUT

The agressive/passive animal ratio is way off for something like this to work.

In other games and in real life this works, becuase for every predator there are 10 times as many prey animals. They only attack when starving, not jus at any given chance, and they would be fed for a long time off of one prey. In wurm, there is more spiders then there is deer alone, and then some more agros of other kinds to hunt them too.

Ontop of that, a wild animal in their right mind would never even think about attacking animals hitched to a wagon, unless in a very large group... and wurm predators dont hunt in groups.

All in all, stupid change to be added like this.
