Posted March 16, 2014 (edited) (not sure if to drop this post in ca section so i put this thread in woodscraps) I have been wanting to start recording some PvP in wurm for a while now, but i am not sure which programs to use.. I hear Fraps is the main one but i am not sure if that is the best one.If you could recommend some below that don't have massive tax on cpu/gpu, but still comes out high qualityl, it would be really helpful as i would love to get some recordings done Thanks in advance, Firecat. (If you need any system specs im using windows 7 64bit, an Amd FX-6100 3.2Ghz CPU, 4GB ram and an NVIDIA GTX550Ti GPU.) Posted March 16, 2014 Fraps is always the way to go if your computer can handle it But few other alternatives have worked for me too, if you figure the way to optimize your settings on them.- Hyper Cam and Camtasia If none of these 3 work, try YouTube, and check the new 2013 / 2014 videos. Use Windows Movie Maker for simple editing, and if you like to challange yourself, then Sony Vegas 7-12 is always your friend.

Posted March 16, 2014 Personally I use a Hauppauge HD PVR2:http://www.hauppauge.com/site/products/data_hdpvr2-gaming.html In terms of software I've used Bandicam in the past which worked excellently and was much easier to configure to my personal liking than Fraps and I also got a generaly better FPS. Posted March 16, 2014 "Open Broadcaster Software" is the best I've ever use so far. Highly recommended. This thing is awesome, it's free and is by far the best I've tried. The files (.mp4) don't take much of your disk space and it's still editable on Premiere Pro or whatever you use. The quality is great too.
Posted March 16, 2014 (edited) I just downloaded obs and did a bunch of tests, getting solid 40+fps mid-settings in 720p. Thanks for all the help! Edited March 16, 2014 by Thrrim
Posted March 16, 2014 (edited) i have fraps, and Dxtory "http://exkode.com/dxtory-features-en.html"fraps has issues desyncing on systems with muiticore and sometime hates javaOBS is awesome for it doesn't capture frames the same way most programs dobut for true video capturing in the exact method you requireDxtory canrawcap, optional codec's, you can set everything.depending on the codec detory can blow fraps quality out of the water.and you can run a light enough codec to reduce you cpu load. And can record 1 video and upto 2 audio devices ( different tracks )At once so your game music and microphone would be two differnetRecordings ( no all programs accept this type of avi file )just remember ANY program has to be tested. i had a great codec but for me i keep recording a green haze. wurm grass was REALLY green. but hey it didn't affect the overall quality note ive tested several other programs and found dxtory is only not useable when the program your running isin a web broswer. thats where Xcam and a few others step in.and as for multicore support check thishttp://imgur.com/oMs323xthis program can use EVERY or 1 core. you control nearly everything.if your lost in settings there is a few videos on youtube to help get a general configuration for 720p and 1080p recording*edited in*For video editng software beyond basic video stacking like WMMI found sony vegas pro to spendyBut its home version ( movie studio platinum )Vegas has no limits where the one I named above isCapped to 20 audio and 20 video tracks as in 20 differentThings at the same time ( popup text, dropin and out images or Other video feeds ) with a lot of interesting featuresIts worth trying it. And can be found at a reasonable price on Amazon Edited March 16, 2014 by Notsodirt
Posted March 18, 2014 I use Fraps myself, simple to use, however I wouldn't recommend it for the extreme-video makers. Only for something to use for a quick-capture and post.
Posted March 19, 2014 Fraps is okay for a software solution; though, ever considered using hardware video capture?
Posted March 19, 2014 Fraps is really great but you'll need to pay for it of you want clips longer than 30 seconds. It records at very high quality also. Just 30 seconds of FFXIV ended up in the GBs of data. haven't tested it with Wurm yet. I have also been looking for a screen capture program other than fraps but I may just break down and buy it for longer recording.
