Posted February 22, 2014 (edited) Hi Everyone, We have identified a bug which can cause items being moved from one container to another to disappear. This can happen randomly and with any item moved, including resources and coins. Until this bug is fixed, please do not transfer items between containers as any lost items cannot be replaced. Edit: We have identified another bug that leads to a potential exploit using the leveling command. As such leveling has been disabled. It is high priority and will be addressed as soon as possible. Edit2: We have re-enabled leveling, and advise to use it with extreme caution. If you notice anything strange while leveling please log a /support ticket and inform a GM. The exploit is still there, and will still be punished with a ban for abusing. Regards,Retrograde and Your Wurm Team. Posted February 22, 2014 I have also found that when moving directly from a bsb to a container in my inventory, it is possible to exceed 100 items in that container.
Posted February 22, 2014 I have also found that when moving directly from a bsb to a container in my inventory, it is possible to exceed 100 items in that container. There was everytime a low chance to do that... So the complete checking system needs some corrections
Posted February 22, 2014 So the leveling is just a bug or a serious exploit? I don't understand how it can be so thats why Im asking, we was leveling all day today, just being curious cause there didn't seem to be any problem and I didn't notice anything. Posted February 22, 2014 (edited) Any idea how long its gonna take to get enabled again? Couple hours? Days? Weeks? Edited February 22, 2014 by WesncIsMe
Posted February 22, 2014 Mind if I ask how it is possible for you to be able to turn off the context menu option, but not the keybind? Is it not the same command sent to the server? Inexperienced programmer here, just curious.
Posted February 22, 2014 Gah, that sucks. Hope this doesn't take as long as floor boards >_<.Anyhow, loving 1.
Posted February 22, 2014 Maybe you should update the orange text to include that leveling is now disabled and not use the keybind. Since you it currently only says "[15:00:37] The GM team is aware of the exploit in levelling. Any abuse of this exploit will result in your account being banned." This makes no mention of the leveling being disabled, and people like me who use the keybind as it is intended don't notice that the menu option is gone! Posted February 22, 2014 errr, the menu optionis not gone. at least not for me. and as mentioned above i was leveling all day too and i did not notice any advantage or anything different than normal...

You can apparently track it, so why leave people to worry about something strange happening. I got dirt to move and would like to go back to moving it without worrying about getting banned for some stupid vague exploit.

Exactly, please can we know, some of us have some leveling to finish and would like to know whats happening. Why keep it from us? If you tell us all, and people still do it, just ban then since you guys can track it. So why keep it from us? I would also like to avoid a ban please, we do work hard on our skills. Posted February 22, 2014 Yep the checking thingy needs looking at... on chaos when we built the Furious Gulf we had so many piles of dirt glitching on the 301 sloped dirt walls, we were able to fit well over 1000 dirt in a pile. Combined with the "new at that time period" leveling system we were able to raise dirt walls 2-wide in a 47x51 deed quite fast.

Because explaining people how an exploit works is not the best thing to do? :/ Telling people how to exploit so they can avoid doing it is very bad logic. If you have been flattening and everything went fine, then you really don't have anything to worry about. If you'd get banned for exploiting, it would have meant there was overwhelming evidence that you were 1. exploiting and 2. were fully aware of what you were doing. Being a premium player, and have worked on my skills for months. I think something like this that is a bannable offence and we have work to do "Leveling" that is a part of this exploit, and want to avoid it so we don't get banned, I think thats room for an explanation on what this exploit is so we can avoid it all together. As I stated, if they can track and ban people, then do it, but us legit players want to avoid it so we DON'T get banned. It's best anyways cause then it gets rid of all the players that exploit right? Plus us legit players can avoid it and know what to look for so we can report it. We was hoping to finish all of our leveling on our deed today but as this is happening, we are too scared to do anything as people are getting banned. We want to avoid this, but still try to get work done, so yeah, an explanation seems necessary. We have no intention on exploiting, and same goes for getting banned. Posted February 22, 2014 Now when some odd behavior occurs, such as (making this up as I go) extra dirt showing up in inventory and no change in elevation.... yeeeeeaaaaah might want to stop and report that.

Then you have nothing to worry about? You don't accidentally keep exploiting something for hours without knowing it. If you are leveling and you don't notice anything odd, then you are not doing anything wrong. Even if something odd happened and you didn't notice much later, you still have absolutely nothing to worry about. You can't accidentally abuse it without knowing, like you can't accidentally duplicate a gold coin 10 times without realizing something went wrong. If you tell people how it works, people will intentionally do it. It doesn't matter if it can be tracked or not.
Posted February 22, 2014 I'm dumb and have no common sense. Trying to second guess what is intended or unintended behaviors isn't possible for me. Guess I"ll just use the safe path which is to not use leveling for digging and mining at all. Regardless, imo, threatening banning for use of unintended mechanics (or exploiting) when the power wielding entities won't explain anything is extremely unethical. Posted February 22, 2014 So I must have a complete knowledge of how leveling works in every detail, with the piss poor communication of how things really are intended to work, any player doing ( the exploited feature we cannot name ) will be banned for not spending hours running spreadsheets of how it truly works. Seriously, either fix the exploit via a hotfix, learn to test prior to launching new patches, or leave it disabled. This is the single biggest problem with Wurm especially on the pvp side, a clueless playerbase on how things are intended and popular players becoming Gm's to enforce exploits on things that are poorly documented. By that logic, nobody could ever be banned for using a new exploit, because you'd always have to assume the person could have possibily mistaken it as a legitimate game mechanic, since nobody ever mentioned it was an exploit. Luckily that's not how it works
Posted February 22, 2014 When you know what the exploit is and what the unintended outcome is you should tell us. How is the uninformed supposed to know that it is what we are doing. Why the big secret? Someone might go do it for the side effect? You just said you'd ban them. So give us what we aren't supposed to see.

If I had my way the rules would be simple. If you can do it, its intended and legal, but that doesn't matter since I'm a nobody. I've voiced my opinion and now I go back to Wurming. Posted February 22, 2014 I really hope it isn't extra dirts being gained, because I don't keep track of that at all, just alt tab, space (keybind) move dirts, alt tab. And repeat every half a minute or so to move dirts again until I run out if stamina.
