Posted February 19, 2014 I have seen companies that have a high level of security in the game. Meaning a network security admin. So there is no DDOS or any kind of attack. Surprised they have not hirered someone to do all the security and make another server to protect the servers from all this. If not then how about the ISP get there act together and stop this nonsense. So far this is the second time since I have been on here (nov 2013) that this has happened. Don't get me wrong. I am not frustrated. I am just wondering if the ISP is to ignorate or if they are just lacking on the Network side. If it is on wurms side. Get a secure network admin. If you have one. Then might need a better one. This issue even though a small company should have safety percautions to prevent this. If they were just the only ones attacked. EIther side, something needs to protect the sign on servers, main servers for playing. So this will never happen again. This isn't fair to the wurm community. It isn't fair to Rolf and the gang. Posted February 19, 2014 well, this is why they were thinking of,and now moving the servers-but keep in mind sony/soe moved to a more secure server system and all, after some light attacks, and then later got hammered offline for a month due to this exact same thing.and they have all you mention and more in place.this was a new variation on an old attack it seems.also seems it was done by an amateur as they missed the test server.but if sony/soe can get hit, anyone can.always a way around things for these jerks
Posted February 19, 2014 (edited) This has been talked about to death each time a DDoS happens. Several posters pulled up great examples that I sadly can not find at the moment about the cost the kind of protection you're speaking of runs. Centers that offer protection for the level of attacks Wurm has suffered from and companies that do nothing but offer DDoS protection services, all on top of server expenses, can become incredibly costly. I'm sure most hosting centers have some level of protection, but I guessing a basic $300 a month for coverage against a 2gb/per second attack isn't going to help here. (numbers pulled from first google result.) Posted February 24, 2014 It's already done. from what I understand they finally realized they needed a host with DDoS protection and went and got it.YAY!!!!
