Posted February 18, 2014 I also need to fix that. Maybe we need a 64-bit firefox or chrome or so?
Posted February 18, 2014 I launched Wurm through the cache viewer (Run -> "Javaws -viewer") and didn't get the popup about the bit version so I assume it's in 64 bit mode now. Haven't checked if that fixes the desktop icon but probably not.
Posted February 18, 2014 I installed 64 bit java and uninstalled 32 bit java. i then had to right click on the Wurm.jlnp file and chose open with> javaws and it worked fine after that but had to delete shortcut off desktop as it was referring to the old 32 bit java. Posted February 18, 2014 I clicked the option to "run anyway" without downloading the 64 bit java and the game runs fine for me. There is also a little square you can x to not show the warning message again if annoyed by it. =Ayes=

Posted February 18, 2014 currently, it would seem that google chrome does not offer a 64 bit version. so you need to use explorer 11 or fire fox to use java 64 . I installed explorer 11 , and then the 64 java and it worked fine.
Posted February 18, 2014 (edited) You can create a link that starts Wurm with 64bit Java as outlined here: http://forum.wurmonline.com/index.php?/topic/82478-installing-java-recent-crashes-out-of-memory/ No need to have the browser involved at all. Posted February 18, 2014 I had the same issue and fixed it by deleting the wurm folder & then run the setup file again.
Posted February 23, 2014 I tried the fixes for this 32/64 bit issues I've seen linked here. Finally thought I had it working (after numerous crashes, failing to launch, etc.) and it STILL was using the 32 bit java (yes, I installed the 64 bit java). Finally decided to just use the 32 bit since aside from some graphical stuttering the game had been working sorta okay. But THEN the game wouldn't even launch, or if it did it would crash after hitting "play". Totally deleted the Wurm folder (uninstalled game), to try and reinstall. Now, when I hit the "play" but on the homepage to try and install the game I get an error of "Failed to launch application". Quite frustrating. Running win 7. Ideas? (Aside from just play another game?)
Posted February 23, 2014 Are you useing Google Chrome ? I found out that Chrome dont use the 64bit version of java it can only work with 32bit
Posted February 23, 2014 No, I'm using Firefox. And there is also no stable public 64 bit release of Firefox. Nevertheless the browser has nothing to do with Wurm and what it runs, but trying to configure Wurm to use the 64 bit java has been an exercise in futility and frustration. I give up. I just tried installing the game again by hitting the play button on homepage and it seems to be installing now. Crossing fingers.

Posted February 23, 2014 To change Windows so it runs Wurm using Java 64 bit instead of Java 32 bit right click file wurmclient.jnlp and choose Propertieswhere it says "Opens With" it should say "Java â„¢ Web Start Launcher" but this is 32 bit java, hit the change button and browse to the file at C:\Program Files\Java\jre7\bin\javaws.exe this is the 64 bit versionhit OK button to apply the change Double clicking on wurmclient.jnlp file should now run it using java 64 bit
Posted February 23, 2014 Okay, I might give that a try. In the meantime I got the game to install and run but I can't remember my password! lol I don't see how to reset my password for the game anywhere on the launcher screen, or here on the website. Help?
Posted February 23, 2014 You can request a password reset here http://shop.wurmonline.com/WurmWeb/index.jsp?c=resetpassword

Posted February 23, 2014 I have 64 bit Windows 7, I use Google Chrome. Had both versions of Java installed, Wurm would only run in 32 bit. I uninstalled the 32 bit Java, restarted my computer, and now everything works perfectly.
