Going nomadic.

Recommended Posts

I love my deeds and i will always have them. But a little part of me has always wanted to go nomadic in wurm. I have tried on alts but its pretty tough.

What i want to discuss here is the ability to go nomadic now enabled because of a wagon and loading beds, forges, and crates full of water, bsbs, fsbs.

To me this now seems like a possible option or at least significantly easier than before.

Please give any problems and potential solutions for this idea, jsut brain storming hear and seeing how the idea goes over.

only problem i see is that you would have to create a small enclosure every time you stop and set up camp but that's not that bad.

Well, if you make sure there is a Saddle on your Horse, it won't move, and with good Taming, you can have it log out with you and not even have to worry about an enclosure.

Could do it now with friends with deeds as backup, just travel the land meeting and helping folk =D

Get a boat and use that to store your stuff and to travel around in. Most of the map is near water anyways.

every second u are outside in the forest, your deeds suck more upkeep cash

never liked that, but that's just how it is.

Have to pay a price on going nomadic :)

Shrimpiie-Yeah that takes care of having a separate mount. As for the enclosure i was more referring to if the pulling animals unhitch from the wagon over server reset, and bed only works in a house so a 1x1 house plus a couple fence pieces isn't much at all in the way of mats.

FreeTin- i think your missing the point entirely

Ganken- good point loading items into a boat is a great option and you don't risk loosing animals over server reset just need mats for a 1x1

Ah yes, with a Wagon this would certainly be fun do do, and with a Wagon you would certainly have to make a small enclosure.

With wagons and being able to pick up furniture and such, you could easily live in caves and move place to place when you are ready.  No enclosures needed. :)

Perhaps we need the ability to make fencing that can be picked up and moved from place to place so you don't leave an enclosure behind every time you move.

Eyes,

Great point enclosure clutter would be a problem. I don't think beds work in mines tho.

Been suggested, nice idea. Not that it will ever be added :(

You could always carry a large maul and make crude fences with 1ql materials. Wouldn't take too long to remove before moving on. The house you build can just be deleted.

Or, you could build a "donut" shaped 3x3 house, with a pen on the middle square. Would take a lot more materials though.

I lived nomadic for some time, before settling down. I staged out of a boat, though.

My skills were low at the time, so living nomadic wasn't a problem. I could use a fire instead of a forge or stove and while I couldn't carry too many materials with me (I had a rowing boat), that could be solved with a knarr. I think the idea here is that if you do opt for the boat approach, you need something flat bottomed, so that you can get to shore anywhere. Sailing boat is ideal, as it fits into all little inlets and lakes, but it - of course - won't let you carry more than just your tools and most personal possessions.

One benefit of going nomadic on a boat, though, is that you can cross servers at will. The entire server cluster is literally your home.

And so many great places to visit!

Saddles on all the horses will prevent wandering just in case they get unhitched from a  server rest. I haven't had a problem with that lately. Lock on the wagon should prevent theft and keep things secure. Carry iron ,  anvils in case you want to make nails to put up a temporary bed/house. For the most part do without sleep bonus. There are Inns scattered, Those locations could be learned/mapped out.  Have a wagon on each server. Explore the server, when you are tired of it move back to deed for a bit or change servers.

There are plenty of public inns all over, so its not like you have to make a house every time you want to sleep.

Omg this sounds so exciting. I'm really tempted to go on a road-trip too after wurm 1.2 !! I'll be a free and proud Gipsy, roaming aimlessly around the world smelling the adventure and the freedom !

Why make an enclosure for wagon? If wagon have same permissions like other vessels, just leave the animals hitched and nobody can touch/move the wagon/animals. Like the way we do it with large cart now.

Make a campfire when you settle down and leave your important stuff in your wagon. That sounds... pretty good actually.

I was a nomad for my first week until someone gave me crash space. No horse, just a cart. It was pretty fun, but probably is easier with higher skills. It wouldn't be too hard to be a travelling craftsperson if your skills are high. People always seem to need high QL logs, people to imp tools/armour, run errands, maybe clear mobs for mines?

I think he means that each minute you're not benefiting from your deed, that's wasted upkeep you're paying... Although the same could be said when you stop to eat, sleep, have a life...

I plan a version of this myself  using the wagon to haul tools etc so I can roam and imp help build  etc. and really see sections of Wurm I have not visited previously. Have fun and go for it! Your deeds will be waiting for you when you are done.

This could be a nice area to improve the game. With the new wagons in place and the load functionality it would not require much development work to really make this viable. Few tweaks and smaller features, like bedrolls or beds in caves, some way of securing horses, maybe being able to put wagons and animals on boats, having merchants operate from wagons to sell for you while offline and then this would be a great alternative way to play the game.
