Posted February 5, 2014 Hello everyone, I just started playing Wurm yesterday. I downloaded it on my desktop PC, did the tutorial, and played for a few hours with a friend that introduced me to the game. Naturally, i wanted to come back for more, so I tried to install the game on my laptop, and that's where I'm having issues. My character's movement is very glitchy, even changing my camera angle to just look at the world around me is extremely laggy, and to top it all off.my graphics look wierd. I tried to post a screenshot that I took but I cannot figure out how to post it here. To put it simply, the world is pink. A small circle around where my character is standing looks normal, several angled slopes such as hillsides and houses look correct, but the ground, sea and sky are pink. Horses, critters and players/NPC's appear normal. I spent an hour browsing this forum, looking at many posts from other users complaining about their low FPS, java problems, etc, and I have tried changing graphics and compatability settings that I have seen suggested in several threads. The ground is still pink, the sea is still red, my FPS has not improved, and character movement is still extremely sluggish. I tried disabling GLSR and all of the other settings, tried playing fullscreen and windowed mode, nothing has helped, not even in the slightest. I will post my log file in just a minute, but here's a brief overview of my system, but know that I have a much faster processor currently being shipped. Laptop: Dell Vostro 1520Processor: Intel Core2Duo T6670 @ 2.20 GHzRAM: 8 GBVideo Card: N/A. I am told by a friend that this laptop shares video memory with system memory. Posted February 5, 2014 well your laptop looks quite old, and wurm can't run well on dedicated video cards let alone the incorporated ones.
Posted February 5, 2014 Laptop: Dell Vostro 1520Processor: Intel Core2Duo T6670 @ 2.20 GHzRAM: 8 GBVideo Card: N/A. I am told by a friend that this laptop shares video memory with system memory. Vostro 1520 uses Intel integrated graphics. Not powerful enough to play this game successfully. That is a business class laptop, not meant for gaming really. You may get it to play with the right settings, but you'll need to set everything to minimum, and probably dig into advanced graphics and play there to fix the color issues. Posted February 5, 2014 I think I can confirm that video is the problem. I find that if I'm staring at the ground, I can move and adjust my camera much more freely. Until I reach a long term solution, I'm just doing stationery crafting tasks for my alliance mates.
Posted February 5, 2014 (edited) I have the solution for you. This really should be default as it affects so many players with lower-end desktops or most laptop PCs, but currently it's not. You'll need to go into Settings and within that under the Compatibility tab and change GLSL Shader Support to Disabled. This has to be done from the login screen's Settings option, not while logged on in-game. It won't give you super performance for Wurm Online, but doing that will at least make it playable and likely considerably better than what you have now. There are a few negative effects of disabling GLSL Shader Support, possibly making you unable to view the water surface. Give this a try, Wargasm, I guarantee it'll help as i have a computer with an onboard Intel chip for graphics on the motherboard and I know it's the only thing allowing Wurm to be playable for me. (This is true for the original poster, too, RE: OpenGL renderer: Mobile Intel® 4 Series Express Chipset Family (Hint to developers: Please consider having GLSL Shader Support disabled by default. This issue affects many more prospective players than you might apparently be aware of.) Edited February 5, 2014 by Tristanc
Posted February 5, 2014 GLSR was greyed out when I was in game, probably because you can only disable it from the settings menu BEFORE you are running the game. I already disabled GLSR on the settings tab at the login screen and I'm still having the same problem. I did not notice a difference when GLSR was turned on or off. The only difference in control that I notice is SIGNIFICANT improvement when I am looking straight down at the ground. Then I can play as if there was no problem. Posted February 5, 2014 With that clarification you made, I can offer that I, too, still have the red textures covering some tiles and that's apparently due to having an older graphics setup (we both have Intel onboard the motherboard for graphics). The color of the water surface is likely the result of having GLSL Shader Support disabled, though I know of other players who didn't have that issue when they turned the GLSL shader support off. But I do know I have that issue as well. You'll likely have to further experiment with turning some settings off or lower to lessen the amount of video memory useage since that's competing with the game's general memory useage. See if setting Animation Quality to Low helps for one thing (Settings in the Graphics tab), and perhaps trying it with the music turned off. I've done both to help my performance running the game.
