getting 80fps but drops after 5 min in game to 3 to 6

keep getting an issue where after 5 to 30 minutes in game 


it drops down to 3 to 6 fps, Followed several guides, changed settings removed 


shadows etc.. this is a high end machine there is no excuse for this drop that i can figure out..

Just random, but does the fps drop ever correct?  Does it ever rise back to the 80~?


 


I ask because my old video card ran wurm great, but one day it started dropping to 1fps for a minute or so, then would rise back to normal... it did this very randomly and often.   It turned out the fan on my video card was dying and frying my card.  Every time the fan had it's issue, the card overheated and bam fps drop.


 


Can't say it's the same thing, but an overheating video card will drop fps dramatically.

About what nomad said to reduce throttling if this is the case reduce the FPS cap, why?, because in less demanding games like wurm compared to say BF, the GPU can run at a faster rate = less work right? NO, it might be less demanding but it will run faster/give more FPS generating more heat. Just something i read.


 


Back to the problem, other things that could cause FPS to drop, emm out of RAM?,CPU throttling maybe too to go with GPU throttling. Id monitor your system and see what appears to bottleneck it.


 


BTW try turning GLSL off.

Overheating may cause massive FPS drops as some hardware throttles back performance in an attempt not burst into flames. Try monitoring the temperatures of your processor and GPU. Also enable the frame limiter, set it low, and see if you still get drops as quickly. You should also monitor your RAM usage, since insufficient memory will cause disk swapping which will piledrive the performance.

I have noticed a similar phenomenon after being in the game for several hours and doing a lot of travelling around.  It feels like a memory leak to me.  I use MSI Afterburner to see my GPU temp.  I believe memory is the issue not temperature.

Running out of video ram can cause behaviour like this, so try lowering texture settings.

sounds like stuff isn't properly cleared after it has no use:/ that's why after we travel a bit in wurm we get fps drops:/

Thanks for all the replies guys .. but yeah no overheating issues memory is only at like 10% usage while the game is running. 


i tweeked settings etc.. nothing seems to help. i play other games like SWTOR, Skyrim, at max settings without a hitch. 


So i thought maybe it was an issues with java. I uninstalled it and re installed still not luck. I love this game but at this rate its unplayable 5 to 10 minutes in. Im using a ASUS G750JW-DB71 GAMING LAPTOP

This is actually sounding similar to the problem I'm dealing with in a separate thread. Mine is going all the way to full system lock up if not relogged early enough. And yes, I see the time-to-slowdown much faster the more objects there are inside my render radius (populated areas).


 


Anyways, I'll watch both threads now to see if anyone has found the magic medicine for this.

I have similar problem.


 


Game runs fine on my Nvidia GTX560Ti, lates drivers, but after about 15mins of playing frame rate drops ~3-5. That lasts about 30-35 seconds and then it returns to normal 35fps (i have frame limiter set there). Using MSI afterburner to monitor GPU temps: idle 64C, during game play 72-74C.


 


Shouldn't be temperature problem as it has been working fine before (over 1 year now). This problem is new, just few weeks now i've noticed this to happen. Slowdown repeats each 5 mins or so.


 


Oh and when playing Fallout new vegas i get temps up to 86-88C and its runnig fine.

    better set up the manual fan curve for msi- afterburner and make it go 100% for anything above 65-70C , i know nvidia say they'r gpu can run really hot and safe and  all that, but is not just the gpu on the graphics card, other components will suffer from all that heat, mainly the capacitors will start to pop like popcorn after a while.

    i managed to fix my old card by changing them , now i got a 550 ti for over 1 year and have no problems with it,so i guess is because i kept it cooler than the old one, and also might be because i specifically cheked the card before i bought it to make sure the fans don't blow hot air on those capacitors as the old 9600 gt did.
