Posted January 31, 2014 Teamspeak, it's a 3rd party program that runs in the background, don't get me wrong, this program is great. BUT! Wurm is a lower-end graphic game, and I know not a lot of players have computers that can handle a lot of memory usage. What if they made an in-client voice chat with proximity radius' depending on direction facing, and tile distance. Wurm is on Java, so I don't know how or if it could be implemented, but I know games like Second Life really enhanced gameplay with their voice chat.
Posted January 31, 2014 No. -1. I've always hated in game voice chat for reasons. Just leads to trolling.
Posted January 31, 2014 (edited) Wurm used to have this exact feature though im not sure as to why its absent now.Edit: minus direction/facing. just local proximity. Edited January 31, 2014 by Kristoff
Posted January 31, 2014 Orb, there's obviously some rules to that... you'll be able to turn it off, put it on mic sensitivity or press to talk.
Posted January 31, 2014 yea, wurm use to have voice chat back in the day.... could be bandwidth issues, or privacy constraints...
Posted January 31, 2014 nope, it is already very annoying hearing emotes in a 80 tile radius
Posted January 31, 2014 We had it. I don't think it was used much, and now it's removed for some reason.
Posted January 31, 2014 Wurm used to have this exact feature though im not sure as to why its absent now.Edit: minus direction/facing. just local proximity. It was annoying and nobody really used it.. Might be wrong, but i recall it worked as Local voice chat with pm call options or something.Trust me, you dont want any random stranger entering your local, shouting in your speakers.. Posted January 31, 2014 Rolf added it, except everything but proximity chat had a cost, so he removed it after realizing that literally nobody was willing to spend money on voice chat when there's like half a million free alternatives

Posted January 31, 2014 (edited) You can't just tell someone to pay for something when clearly teamspeak 2 was out way before Wurm. I think he had licensed some technology used in the proximity voice chat (Ericsson something something), it was possibly the reason for the cost. Posted February 1, 2014 So glad it is gone. Voice usually drags down a game's ability to stay loaded without errors. Rather he save bandwidth charges.
Posted February 1, 2014 Lots of games try out voice chat, and realize that members don't even make sure of it, even when it is provided for free. Glad it's gone. -
