Names for all bred animals?

Recommended Posts

All bred animals really need names, REALLY. Don't use the horse name sets though, say you bred bears, a bear name could be "clawfury brownfur sharpfang" stuff like that. Dogs could be "spot hank ruff" dog names :P cows and bulls could be cow like names, bison could be "Longhorns Scruffhide stronghoof"

Again alot of names per animal like horses.

+1? -1? Reasons?

+1, definitely not fun guessing parentage for non-equines(unless you're breeding strictly for meat, but non-deformed cows taste better).

Would they take names from the same pool? I could see dogs just pulling one name from it, cept you might wind up with a dog named "rolf"

I think dogs could take the same names, by instead of using 2 together it would just use one, maybe? But for sure bulls/cows/bison would have their own kinda shared pool perhaps and bears their own, possibly shared with wolves

+1 I love this idea I like own names as well but it'd be cool if each animal like wolves, bears, pigs had their own name pools as well. I mean it can't be that hard to code.

Hey Radni, you were the first to reply to this thread:

I will check replies and update this post.

With all the really exciting big changes, I thought that we should start requesting some features to polish and smooth out the experience, only improvements or alternation of what we already have:

Miscellanous:

  • [Domesticated] trait.
  • Names for all domesticated animals.

Couldn't you at least go and bump one of the other countless threads that have doubtlessly been opened with this idea?  :)

I agree. Especially dogs should have names. I would go even further and suggest that one should be able to rename any tamed animal. As long as it remains tamed, the name should stay. If it untames, it reverts back to the original.

I love the Tame-And-Name idea, but I think the name should remain until tamed and renamed.  To eliminate the need for the developers to create new lists of names, just let the players name any animal they can tame and put a limit on the length of the string of characters.  Provide a short list of forbidden or offensive names, but just let the players name them.  Unless an animal is tamed, branded, or tended, anyone can tame and rename.

... or breed the tamed animals. The subsequent offspring have a good chance of being blue (neutral) instead of red (hostile) with a [Domesticated] trait and this also comes with a name the way horses work?

Easier and quicker for the developers as it is some copying, pasting then a bit of altering.

Edit: Otherwise, with your idea there will be catch and release programs with all sorts of puerile humour involved.

Unfortunately, you always have a problem with the player that ignores the forbidden list, or uses odd spellings to work around a filter in order to give obscene names.  The GMs have enough to deal with in the way of houses, boats, and objects that get improper names, multiply that by all the animals and they would be way overworked trying to keep up.  That's why Rolf started giving horses unique names form a database to begin with.  I'd go along with letting all bred animals get names from a database of names.

And I love the idea of domesticated animals from breeding wild ones, with reasonable limits.  For instance, breeding wildcats should get you domestic cats, but breeding lions still gets you a lion.

Bears? Think of the dancing tame ones of old.
