Posted January 27, 2014 Hey, does anyone know if downloading Wurm Online gives your computer a virus? I normally played on a mac so viruses weren't really an issue, but now I switched over the Windows and I'm being SUPER careful on what I download and stuff. If no virus, then hooray! Posted January 27, 2014 LOLIts not like windows is a AIDS patient with no immune system. If you only download stuff from trusted sources and have a decent AV software you'll have a hard time getting a virus.I'd recommend Avast personally, but there's a lot of free Anti-virus software.
Posted January 27, 2014 I normally played on a mac so viruses weren't really an issue,Mac actually had to take their claim of being virus free away from their advertising, because it is/was certainly not truthful information.http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/apple/9355995/Apple-drops-virus-immunity-claim-for-Macs.html
Posted January 27, 2014 The only advantage Apple ever had as to viruses was that so few people use their computers. When someone writes a virus, they are going for the biggest effect. So they write a virus that affects 90% of the computers, not the 10% on a different OS.
Posted January 27, 2014 Wurm contains no viruses, but to run it (first time), you have to enable the java plugin in browser. That might open a security hole in the browser, be careful when to say "run" to any other java programs once the browser plug-in enabled. Posted January 27, 2014 AVG and Ad-Aware are good. Ad-Aware used to be good, but the latest version is just terrible. I would at this point recommend MalwareBytes over both Ad-Aware and Spybot.

Posted January 27, 2014 AVG and Ad-Aware are good. I'd strongly advise against AVG. I've caught viruses on my pen while i was having a class on computers protected with AVG. Avast picked it up right away though. That is so ###### ignorant. In what form? AIDS effectively destroys your immune system, and by the original post the person was acting as if his computer was like a bubble-boy. If people took offense, i'm sorry, none was meant.

Posted January 27, 2014 Wurm does not use the browser plugin, you don't need to run wurm. It is, to able to run the jnlp file via java web start, if its not been associated by file type. safe way to run: on command line you can enter javaws -Xnosplash http://wurmonline.com/client/wurmclient.jnlp (if jre or jdk is accessible in the path)
