Posted January 25, 2014 First off, I kind of have a feeling this post is going to get a lot of hype, seeming a lot of people in this community come from a place where the dislike of Americans is pretty high.I just have a question. Why?In 1775 we declared war on the British Empire, in the year 1783 we won the war and became our own free country, we were a Democratic Republic. I see a lot of people claiming that the USA is an Empire. We are of no such thing. We are still a Democratic Republic, not a monarchy or an oligarchy. In the following years we had a Civil War, the Union was victorious, setting all the black slaves free, but our racism and "Jim Crow" laws didnt end untill the 80's or 90's. We got over that problem, up to that point, we are still a Democratic Republic. On the date 12,7,41 we where obliterated at Pearl Harbor, our Pacific fleet destroyed, open for attack. The next day, war was declared between the USA and the Axis powers, the US once again in another World War to help out their Allies. But before the second world war, there was a first. And if an event never happened, we would never have joined the Allies. In the teens we were more likely to enter on the axis side. This all changed when The sinking of the Lusitania cruise ship by a German submarine and the Zimmermann note. The Lusitania was a passenger ship that a German torpedo hit and sunk, killing about 100 US passengers. This ignited the US to join the allies.Imagine the US joining the Axis, and then again in WWII. If you look at it, there would be no France, there would be no UK, there would be no Russia, hell, even the US wouldn't exist. But we helped the right people, and we won.Let's not forget the D-Day landings and paradroppings behind enemy lines the night before. Without the Ameicans the landings would have been a terrible slaughter for the Allies. In the 60's we went to Vietnam to help out the French and the South Vietnamese, we were abandoned and sent to fight a force that memorized the land like we memorize our rooms. The US never lost a battle in Vietnam, we just lost the war with our week politics, just like always. The United States is a very important contributor to medicine aswell. Without us, you would still be searching for a cure for Small Pox. We have made HUGE advancements in medical science and Military technology. And without us, there would be a Soviet flag on the moon, and the Soviets would still be in the Middle east, and they would have a huge hand in everything. There would still be a communist Soviet Union. Now please, i'm not looking for a flame war, i just want a simple explanation, i have nothing against anyone of another country. If you have anything to say just comment back.Lastly, today, from all the bs we recive from ourselves and others. We are STILL a Democratic republic, we STILL have loyal citizens, we STILL have an amazing Armed Force, and we are STILL on this planet. That is all i have to say. Posted January 25, 2014 Don't think America is a joke because are Wars, more so because of how we - the people - are generally seen by the public. Every country has issues, america just happens to be one of the big ones that are talked about, for reasons I don't really understand, but In my 12-ish years of gaming, i've never really seen anyone make a joke about us that "really" meant it. I just wish people would get over the entire race/country/wtv else, and realize that it's never going to get us anywhere. Maybe I just realize, or think in some peoples views, that it's that way because i've always been a odd-one-out. but common people, at the end of the day, do we not all enjoy similar things? a cycle of putting others down is going to get us nowhere,
Posted January 25, 2014 TL;DR most of it. All I saw was a bunch of references to wars which happened many years ago and has nothing to do with why people do not like us. I also don't feel Wurm needs something like this but I'll go along since we can't play atm. I am an American myself, and personally I do not like a lot of our country's policies or methods. Namely, our government system is the most hypocritical piece of #### that I can really conceive of, I couldn't think of a better system to hide fraud and promote wealth within its own delegates, while taking from the people and keeping them "in their place" spinning circles while working jobs and constantly trying to "get ahead" while the government simply reaps in tax money and you get nowhere. But that's a government. Let me enlighten you on why people don't like us. In 1775 we did indeed declare war on the British empire, and that in itself is a perfect point of why America is so hypocritical. We said "f##k you" to the British, we aren't going to pay those taxes that we (rightfully) owe, now are we!? That's a horrible point to bring up tbh. We love to get railed up about absolutely nothing, all the while being oblivious to the things going on right under our noses that are in fact much more important. Most Americans, not all, but a very good portion, are very self-entitled. Our military/government loves to stick their noses in places they shouldn't/don't belong (please look up PRISM on google, since you likely don't even know what that is). All in all America is not the greatest place in the world like we try to make it seem, but the alternatives aren't much better. You may realize that yes, we have gotten a lot of things right as a country, but we have also gotten a lot of things wrong. Most of these are hidden from your view if you simply watch the media, and so you're lead to believe we are a "perfect" society when that really couldn't be any further from the truth. Posted January 25, 2014 I have never encountered any Anti-Americanism in game. I like Americans because you can hear us before you see us, and we use big adjectives so generously.
Posted January 25, 2014 (edited) I support Israel Since we're talking made up crap, what if Iraq transformed into a giant walking robot, and it started walking towards Israel, and it had big lasers and an axe and stuff, would Bush still want troops there?!?!? How about that? Edited January 25, 2014 by JackBurton
Posted January 25, 2014 American Patriotism is by far my favorite sore spot to poke on an internet forum. If you ever get into an argument on the internet, merely repeat these words. "Are you American?" If they answer no, simply answer, "Then I agree with everything you said." - Thread over. If they answer yes, simply answer, "Oh, that explains it." - Then never respond to the thread again after that. It should snowball into a fight between Republicans and Democrats. Posted January 25, 2014 Well... since we're on it, America could start by giving everyone equal rights and legalize same sex marriage nation wide. It still has a ways to go in being the "ideal" country.
Posted January 25, 2014 Hmmmm.... You make a pretty good statement lad. Although there are many things wrong in any country... By far not only America. And theres also stuff wrong with pretty much every citizen of any given country at any point.... The fact that i personally have sort of a....."dislike" for America or certain American players is of one fact only. The sheer amount of.... just.... painfully stupid remarks that are just hard to even understand that they actually think what they say is true O.o!!! For example: Me being Dutch. An ungodly amount of American players think i speak German.... That i smoke weed every single day. And that it's a miracle i have internet in this tiny country (Yep all of these things have been said in the past and i still come across it today..... feel the stupidity?) I really love how you know a good portion of America's "glorious" history. But that also brings up another point of which i have noticed while visiting the US! You are being thaught everything about your own country in school. But barely anything to NONE about Europe or Asia etc. I also believe this contributes to the problems of Americans often coming over as un-educated bastards to most of the non-americans. As for the democracy? I recently read a funny post on Cracked.com. Might be worth a read You may never know! (although it's a humor site... Surprisingly true as hell) http://www.cracked.com/article_20705_5-ways-u.s.-democracy-more-rigged-than-you-think.html Especially this line made me just facepalm:"In Italy, there are 13 different parties in the parliament. In France, 14. And in the country that frequently toots its horn as the land of freedom and democracy, there are ... the Democrats and the Republicans. Everyone else is on the fringe and can barely win a race for small town mayor. What's up with that ######? Wouldn't a 10-plus party system give a much more diverse set of choices to represent what the people want, as opposed to forcing everyone into a binary system where being against abortion means you have to vote for a party that is also against labor unions (or vice versa)? Well, see, here's the problem ... The Insanity: Guess who gets to decide if you can have a third party. That would be the existing two parties, who, as you can imagine, really don't want the competition. That's because, along with everything else, the current two parties in the USA are also in charge of setting the rules for ballot access for third parties. As such, these rules are roughly as fair as a cage match between a toddler with particularly large ears and a hungry Mike Tyson. Take Carl Romanelli of Pennsylvania. He wanted to run for a congressional seat as a member of the Green Party. Under the rules enforced by the major parties, Republicans and Democrats needed 2,000 signatures to attain ballot access and be allowed into the election. Romanelli, on the other hand, was cheerfully informed he would need slightly more. How slightly? Try 67,000. Shockingly, he didn't make it. " I do want to make clear that i do not have an outspoken "hate" or "dislike" for Americans overall..... It's just that my past experiences have given me the clarity to take everything any American player says with a grain of salt. And don't even be surprised anymore about silly little facts. Posted January 25, 2014 i think getting rid of marriage all together would be better. then there wouldn't be any argument about it.... unless your an insurance company or divorce lawyer.
Posted January 25, 2014 troll bait thread is troll bait. Tho nice to see it still stay civilized. In game I don't care what country you are from except for casual chit chat like 'is it snowing there?' or 'ohh I would love to taste more Pakistan food!'. For me, anything that cross to politic, patriotism, religion, race, and even gender are talks that should be done in private instead letting all strangers see and comment and thus attract trolls. At the same time, I goes eeeww with people who goes 'X country is the best country!' because the same reason.. troll bait.
