Posted January 19, 2014 (edited) Increase friendly animal spawn rate, tamed animal's sexual reproduction / growth rate, and reduce the deed's animal per tile allowance that would prevent animal to reproduce that would eventually lag the server / client. Hostile animal and monster are no longer targeting tamed animal unless they are not ride upon. After the player died on tamed animal, the hostile animal and monster, by default, will target the tamed animal next. Benefits: More exploration, PvP/PvE, reduce the needs for hoarding tamed animal because reproducing is difficult, and more economy for horse trading Edited January 19, 2014 by Tobeornottobe
Posted January 19, 2014 By tamed animals i assume you mean neutral mobs, deer, horses, cows, bulls, bison and such. I dont think it is the matter of hoarding due to difficult reproduction, as reproduction is quite easy, its more the collection of 5 speed horses, as you need a large pool to avoid inbreeding
Posted January 19, 2014 -1current system seems good enough as it is.
Posted January 19, 2014 (edited) I think you have a bit of a misunderstanding on how this all works. We don't have "respawn rates" here, we have "animal caps" ( http://freedom001.game.wurmonline.com/mrtg/creatures.html ). We have ratios because some people will horde large amounts of animals and then there will be no animals seen in wild (this issue hit indy really hard a few years back - 2 hour hunt would turn up 3 animals at best) And not sure if I am reading your suggestion right, but absolutely no to auto-reproducing. Also, reproducing is not hard at all. Getting a good animal is difficult at times, but the issue is that some people (if given the option) will keep every single animal they have born. Posted January 19, 2014 Ok then take away the animal deed cap and let lag the server more because "they are doing ok". They are born very slowly. Monster targeting tamed horse first while riding is a load of crap.
Posted January 19, 2014 -1. Since the cap was increased a few months ago it's been going great. And there are still a ton of wild animals out there (except cows :$)Heck, I woke up yesterday and saw 12 bison, 3 hell horses, a rooster, a bull, and 1 wild horse. (Those bisons got a good home )

Posted January 20, 2014 -1 Don't tame your horse before going out to hunt. Just lead it. Any "pet" will be attacked first because they are protecting you. Rolf has already tinkered with the breeding/animal zoos in which you have a certain amount that your deed size can hold before disease and random deaths become more prevalent. On Exo, I have noticed an increase in mob rates with the newer animal hording restrictions and with the missions (kill 100 cows, sac 30 chickens, etc). I used to be a big animal collector.. Not quite a zoo, but I liked having them around. I still breed horses, cull the ones below 4 traits and have a few agros and hell horses on my deed without touching the % cap. I think it's fine the way it is.

Actually, you have ratios because someone cried their pc would get low fps on a farm with many animals, so to avoid that you can only ahve so many animals in one spot. The ammount of animals in the wilderness was increased because the animal caps were doubled. People still hoard animals as much as before, if not more. Posted January 20, 2014 (edited) I am just going to say it. You guys keep saying Exodus, Celebration, etc. These are high traffic server but what about PvP server, hmmm? It like you judging the low population server to re-inforce your opinion about your PvE server that have higher population. I would like some of you to swim through monster after monster just to make an effort of rescueing animals. In all fairness, of course, Rolf should improve the PvP's horse idea and leave PvE alone. Posted January 21, 2014 I think he has a decent system right now and any more changes with breeding would cause people to bring out pitch forks again.
