Posted January 19, 2014 remove horses for a day and lets see how much more fun we have I remember back in the good old days when they never existed there was pvp every day its way to hard to do anything on epic servers because you just get a bunch of hell horses on ur ass with 3 other horses following the guy
Posted January 19, 2014 you obviously didn't play back then
Posted January 19, 2014 (edited) oh yeah I played back in 2008 but we have mounts for some reason now. Alone the idea to implement a gamecode which removes all horses is not good. It would be a time wasting code... Just for one day Edited January 19, 2014 by Sklo:D
Posted January 19, 2014 imo more fun without horses/gives armor choices/swapping
Posted January 19, 2014 lets make it a week heck lets just remove them permanently!
Posted January 19, 2014 -1 For a joke suggestion. April fools is still a few months away.
Posted January 19, 2014 I think it would actually be pretty cool to play one day without horses on Elevation
Posted January 19, 2014 It would be quite fun, but sadly, i dont think theres any safe way to remove them and return them, a little too much coding
Posted January 19, 2014 Wouldn't need to remove them. Just up the requirement to ride them for a day so nobody can mount them. Much easier and achieves the same pointless thing.
Posted January 19, 2014 hella long walk to get off some of the big deeds, would be painful, but would need to move them all alot closer to the steppe anyway if such a big change, keep dreaming i guess.
Posted January 19, 2014 Remove the CR bonus of using a horse, or better give a CR penalty for fighting from horseback. That would be way more interresting to try. Horses will retain their ability to transport, but in combat you are better off on foot. Keep realism out of this, balance goes first. And for freedomers: I agree entirely, changes like these should only apply to epic and not you guys, and vica versa

Posted January 19, 2014 For one day I don't think you would even notice it happened, log in and do some crafting and wow look the day is gone and I never even needed to leave deed

Posted January 19, 2014 No you would not. So, let's say a horseman with a shield and sword versus someone on foot with shield and sword, the one on foot could easily move out of reach of the horseman meanwhile having a reach on him. You're thinking about if they charge which a polearm or spear could easily stop, i'm talking about how it is in wurm mechanics where you just stand there. Have you ever chased a naked person in wurm for example, they could easily outmanuever you by going backwards so you would have to turn around to chase him. Horse combat. In reality, knights didnt stop their horses to fight infantry, they kept riding and lopping heads and slicing arms and whatever they could do while maintaining the speed advantage. Posted January 19, 2014 DO EEEETTTT!!! For a Week though!!
Posted January 19, 2014 Dont forget that warhorses were also trained to bite and kick, being on horseback was a great advantage, thus knights and cavalry being known as the elites
Posted January 19, 2014 I trained my horse to peck like a chicken in fights
Posted January 19, 2014 (edited) Historically, horseback fighters did have the advantage due to height. Its more difficult for an attacker to attack upwards but easier to attack downwards. Edited January 19, 2014 by Mark
Posted January 19, 2014 (edited) Realisticly you would recieve a combat penalty for riding a horse anyways. Realistically, riding a horse provided a devastating combat advantage in pre-gunpowder era warfare. The CR bonus in wurm is but a fraction of the real advantage. There is height, speed, momentum, trampling, and then on top of it, having a giant muscular fleshy shield between you and the guy on the ground. Cavalry were feared. Posted January 19, 2014 there is a reason why almost every other mmo in the world doesn't allow mount combat... cause its op
