Rust!

Recommended Posts

Today is the day! Rust launched today on steam and seems great fun so far,it is kind of a blend of Day Z,Minecraft,Fallout 3 and Wurm. An openworld unforgiving survival sandbox game made by Facepunch Studios Gary of Gary's Mod.It is still in alpha and has heavy aspects of PvP although there are some PvE servers. You start with a rock a med kit and wooden torch oh and a loin cloth. The idea is simple.....survive you can chop wood collect stone, iron etc to build shelters or larger houses, sound familiar?...... The construction of houses/shelters is very different to Wurm though. The best thing to do when starting is locate pigs to kill for food as your food bar runs low quite quickly whilst working at chopping wood etc which is done by bashing the trees and wood piles with the rock you have in your inventory when you spawn. There are wolves, bears, deer and maybe some other animals i have not encounterd yet,oh and also zombies at the radiation zones that are due to be changed from zombies to something that we do not know yet so as not to be dubbed another "zombie" sandbox but they will still be ingame in some form. All in all it's a great game but is bound to have bugs and is nowhere near the polished version i hope it will turn out to be once past the alpha/beta stage. It still cannot stand up to the beuaty and complexity of our beloved Wurm which is as im sure you all agree in a leauge of it's own and i am 100% sure it always will be.I still have not found anything that can rival Wurm in the seven years i have been playing even after trying the many crafting/survival settlement games that are on the market to date. Thanks for listening, Happy holidays and keep on Wurming!!.

Please DO NOT reply unless you are genuinely interested in this game,i suggest those troll text nazis that scan the forums looking for out of place question marks etc go and find something else to do with the downtime instead of poking your nose where it is not wanted ,thank you.

No not naked that would be just wrong, loin cloths so not completly naked its no different than early man which makes a nice change in this type of game instead of medieval style clothing. And the no clothes is a big part of survival you see that you are cold on the hud and must make clothes asap or get warm by the campfire you craft.

It's not WURM so who cares ..

Try looking which section of the forum you are reading before you reply to something.

I also have and didn't want to buy one at the dutch auction either so it was great to get it on steam today,i am about to play but there are a lot of servers to choose from that are unofficial and about three official so far but they are quite packed.I dont know if you want to find a quiet PvE server to learn the game and let us know which server you are on.

Oh hey, I was in this during the very early alpha. I'm guessing a lot has changed since then, but it was sort of shitty. It's very interesting to see a game with absolutely no restrictions and 100% full PvP, but the game feels pretty insubstantial. It pretty much boils down to protecting your hoard and yourself from other players/griefers by trying to build massive houses, which just delays the inevitable because there's nothing protect your house while you're offline. And everyone will come after you, because after you've acquired a decent set of equipment (doesn't take too long) there's literally nothing else to do except deathmatch-ing.

The game can be fun with friends working together (like in Wurm), and I might've stuck with the game if it weren't for all the hackers and the fact that an unproportionally large portion of the player base consists of prepubescent imbeciles (drawn in by some "Let's Play"-ers on Youtube).

Hello,Yes i agree with you it is a shame,i am not sure how much it has changed since you played but i have found some player houses that have locked doors and you cannot enter.I hope that it will change as soon as possible and if you read the reviews it says pretty much what you have mentioned, but if you like to try the alpha version to be there from the start then it is quiet good fun i suggest finding a PvE server with not many players just to get the feel of the game ;).

It has been on a steam a while if you bought a key from the dutch auction and even post auction key sales from the website. Now it's available for everyone to buy.

Put in about 37 hours on steam and more when it was still in the browser.

It is indeed very cool but completely unforgiving. I'm taking a break since I'm tired of having to start over the whole time.

Not so fond of the community though, people are generally very rude. Comes with the territory though, this game is a griefer's paradise. Although there are PVE servers if you are so inclined.

Alright, been playing it for a bit...here's my experience.

First life - Very confusing, didn't know how to cook meat or find cloth. Died pretty quickly thanks to a combination or hunger, radiation and zombies.

Second life - Figured out food/cloth, smashed someone over the head with my rock, although ultimately died in a 5 man free for all. Starting to get fun.

Third life - Broke away from spawn, put a door on some random shack and set up camp. Got cloth armor, a bow, stockpile of food etc. Things were great and I was having a blast.

During that third life, I killed a few people who came round my shack, although I didn't go looking for trouble. Crafting started getting tedious, as the only way to move on from my 1 "tile" shack was to invest hundreds of wood into a slightly larger custom built place. This was clearly going to take quite a while solo and make my place more of a target. While scavenging some wood to get started, I get shot. Alright, fun is now over.

It seems like it could have potential, although much like dayz, your life is over in a flash thanks to someone shooting you without you even knowing he was nearby. There's no challenge or tactics involved there, just random luck of who sees who first. (It's not like a FPS game, where you can keep your back to the edge of the map and learn spots/timing, it's an open world, you can be shot from anywhere, anytime.)

I realize it is alpha, but looking into the future, I am not sure whether to have high hopes for this game or not. There is so much can go wrong with this sort of game and at the minute, it is unplayable. I wouldn't recommend getting it at this stage. You're much better just tuning into a stream and watching someone else play it. I think I'll check back on it once a month or so to see how things are progressing, although in the last 6 months, I can't notice much.

So, you try to get people to look at this new game, someone edits your post so it's easier to read, and you tell them to go off themselves basically?

These forums are getting worse >:(

The game looks decent, I'll be waiting till it's a bit more completed though. I've learned not to jump to early into games.

Hope it's fun for everyone playing, does look good.

7 or 8 of us have bought the game. We've had some great fun so far. Recommend getting it. If you have friends to play with, its a blast. We spent the day looking for a spot to set up and then went out and looted and pillaged all we could find. May look into buying a 50 or 100 slot server for Wurm players if theres enough interest in it.

its so hard to read the OP, that is putting me off the game.

Thanks Silakka for the easy to read version!

The game looks nice, but seems to lack some content.  I will wait on it a bit before I try it.
