Posted December 4, 2013 As many of my friends know, I have this habit of crashing and lagging extremely bad sometimes. At the moment I have this crappy little HP Pavilion Slimline s5503w. Not even sure how it runs wurm tbh. I have about $500 to play with and would like to get a new PC, just the tower would work. What would be a good thing I could buy to stop this lag and crash habit I have?
Posted December 4, 2013 If you have the basic know-how of how to do a basic lego puzzle, you should be able to put together your own pc. Doing this, you will be able to get a much better machine than if you bought one in the store. I'm sure people here would be able to help you pick out the parts for it, although it isn't too difficult. Pretty much just make sure the slots fit and you have enough power. There's many good youtube videos on how to put together a pc yourself. If however you do want to just buy something pre-built (less hassle, longer warranty, ready to go etc) I'd say just head down to your local retailer and pick out something. (Not sure what it's like where you're from, but I wouldn't listen to the sales person...they are just trying to force you into spending more than you want.) Posted December 4, 2013 With Wurm in mind specifically, go for a nVidia GPU - avoid intel gpu chips like the devil - ATI are so-so depending on current drivers.
Posted December 4, 2013 (edited) nVidea and *AMD are the only to choices on the GPU market, Nvidea runs better with java and AMD is much better at performance per prize. With Wurm in mind specifically, go for a nVidia GPU - avoid intel gpu chips like the devil - ATI are so-so depending on current drivers. On your prize scale I would recommend a CPU and GPU by AMD tho.A 7770 or 7850 GPU is a good choice for you. I personally run a 7790 which is perfectly between.(each about 100$+)8Gb of Ram are standard and are important for Ram heavy wurm clients. As CPU I would recomend you a Quad Core, even tho most programms don't support them its a good thing for the future.A FX 4300 is my recommendation. (100$/stock cooler is fine)In term's of storage a 7200rpm hard drive with at least 500 GB. I also recommend a SSD, they improve your overall PC performance by numbers and a 120GB is about 100$. At your budget I would go for the hard drive, you can upgrade anytime. Edited December 4, 2013 by Sklo:D

I doubt I'd have much trouble finding someone who owned windows 7 I could bum off them. And it should handle wurm fine?

Posted December 5, 2013 For wurm I would recommend getting a high speed CPU. Many cores doesn't matter (for wurm), as it seems to be completely single-threaded. The Ghz matters though. Wurm bottlenecks on a single core of my CPU, gets nowhere near filling out my old GPU.
Posted December 9, 2013 (edited) Wurm uses OpenGL... ALOT, and OpenGL is supported in a superior fashion by Nvidia drivers and GPUs in general. Intel gpus suck the bigon, and AMD/ATI are iffy. Edited December 9, 2013 by Klaa
