Are you running another wurm while its trying to download. If so this will stop it from saving to the .bak

Im getting same issue right now. Not running another wurm, deleted all old files and tried starting a new and nothing. Still same.

Go to the Task manager and check if there is any Javaw.exe running. Sometimes people have this odd issue that they leave the game but some part of the java process is still running causing updating issues. Taskkilling that usually fixes it or if you are on a safe side restarting the PC works too.

 

And ofcourse no clients at all must be running therefore no javaw.exe processes.

 

If you are unsure where to look, in windows press Ctrl+Alt+Del, Select Task Manager and click on the Processes. its the Javaw.exe with description: Java Platform SE binary (or such)

OCCAM'S RAZOR. yep i checked the task manager and sure enough.....
