I'm not sure why devs decided to change up enchanting/shatters. It wasn't broken. The motivation for most priests skilling up has been to NOT shatter things. That's how skilling should work. Did one of Bashurs new priests shatter an item or something?

 

What this does is as follows.

  • Players buys, or gets a new shiney. New shiney is meaningful to player. Player won't risk the enchant and rightly so. Unenchanted shiney vs old enchanted shiney = larger gap between older and newer player.

Prices for tools and weapons with good enchants goes way up. Speaking of, fellow priests.. what should the price point be for enchants now?

Players who already have enchanted armour YAY. Players without.. why risk it?

Locksmithing becomes more important than the priestly skills?

I was understanding when you nerfed archery and lockpicking. I understood the nerf of POL and enchanted grass. I was even cool and silent about the price increase. I haven't used these forums before to complain (that I know about) but for gods sake...

 

Change enchanting/shattering to the way it was before!

 

Reward hard work.

The new enchanting tweaks have not only raised shatter rates on ALL enchants, but have now made it so that ANYTHING can shatter upon failure no matter the roll. Beforehand you got a roll, and if that roll power was too low it would shatter. Now even if the roll is only a -1 (wouldn't even come close to shattering most items) it now has a chance to shatter instantly. (more often than not)


 


This means that even a 90 channeling priest could fail once on AoSP'ing drake and, sorry bro your set's destroyed. I have countless rare and supreme weapons that I now cannot get enchanted because I don't want them to get blown up by this stupid-ass mechanic. This has only created an even larger gap between the Already-Have's and the Have-Not's. Low level priests are now worthless, even 50-60 chan priests are worthless right now. And tbh I don't even think I would trust an 80+ on my valuable items.


 


Enchanting was NOT broken beforehand, WHY on jackal did we think it needed to be "fixed"? Sure, FA had a higher shatter rate. Fix that spell and nothing else, everything else was working fine.

Honestly, I enjoyed it when we could crap out 90 casts with 80-90 Channeling priests. It was more enjoyable, and it hardly affected the market.


 


What did affect the market was the lack of high-leveled priests before the Religion nerf, but ever since then, people have been more influenced to grind their priests.... BUT, honestly, even a 90 Channeling, 55 Soul Depth priest fails at even getting a 70+ reliably, lol. I have more luck with a 70 Channeling 30 SD priest than one with 90 and 55. :(

Haven't had any shatters at all since the change casting circle and wind, perhaps I'm just lucky.

I've noticed a few shatters casting on pendulums... but they're like 15ql so not suprising.  Otherwise I've seen no change in casting other than not shattering all the time with FA, could just be RNG.

Wow, Rolf broke priests even worse, making them even less able to survive independently of a main character that can actually craft things?

 

Rolf, stop the stupid priest casting system and turn enchanting into a work-for-reward improvement system like every single other meaningful craft in Wurm

 

100% success to cast a 0 power enchant on anything.  You then use favor and your god's idol to improve the enchantment using your channeling skill as the skill limiter.  A lot like improving mine doors.  Or you can make it more complex.  Whatever, but get out of this alt-tastic priest system and make it work for reward.

While the shatter rate has been upped, I'd like to be told by Rolf what else has changed. Since this shattering update I have actually been getting better casts than before and no shattering. Perhaps luck, but it seems a bit too much of a coincidence.

From listening to everyone and my own shattering experience, it seems if your under 60 ish channeling your going to break more then you succeed, no matter what the items ql is.

Anyone above that seems to be fine and getting slightly better cast...

That being said, until I feel like grinding channeling my vyn will be unused, not wasting any more 85ql hatchets to a Vegas casino >_<

Tbh since the change i havent shattered anything (i was casting aosp on 40ish parts of plate ql 1-9) BUT what i dont mind coming together with this change is that i cannot improve powers below 70as before. Inbefore i could improve any power below 70 in max 3 attempts (rarely 4 frowns). Now its up to 8 fails to improve the power. That is what i really mind.


Shattering gives some work to high-end priests which i wouldnt mind. But THIS is NOT fair to priests with lower channeling really. I remmember all that pain coming along with my grinding. Constantly nerfing it. When you finaly got that level that other priests could cast some better cast there was a nerf right behind. Now this.


I request to finaly set up rules for enchanting and done with that. There is no need to make priests upset once a time some number of priests get some specific skill.

Whatever the change was, I would like an official spokesman to give us specific NUMBERS on what was changed specifically, since this is not some new feature that it could be fun to discover, this is an old feature that everyone and their mothers know, and that was widely tested and now changed overnight.   So @staff, dont be trolls and give us a decent update note when you change existing functionalities.

Not really. I just think they won't get enchanted as much. Also, most priest are making their own stuff with crafting toons. Not buying them.

I haven't shattered anything.  (SD 44, chan 85, faith 100).


 


For 65-ish power I recast on to improve. 65 and up I dispel and try again. Minimum acceptable enchant and the one I usually try for is 75. Occasionally I try to get a 90+. 90's power coc is a skill tool. 75-90 coc gets a woa 75 to 90 duel enchant.


 


I'm confident there has always been a minimum chance for something to shatter. Although, I personally think 100% success would be a good assuming you got the skill. Publish information so we can calculate what channeling, SD, and item quality we would need to achieve 100%.

Maybe you needs a balanced approach.... :)  Pray more, get more Soul, and get more Faith and Religion.


 


Anyhow I am sure if they find the change was over shot they will adjust back a tad.


 


I hope the change punishes the Paper Tiger Priests with only faith and some channeling.
