Updated: Forum Code Of Conduct

Recommended Posts

ForumCOC2.jpg

The Wurm Online forum is a service provided by Code Club with the interest of creating a fun and friendly environment for interaction between us and our players.

For that to happen we expect you to keep a tone that is civil and respectful just as if you were a guest in our office. If you can not do that, expect to have your forum account temporarily or permanently restricted. The following rules apply, but are not exhaustive and mainly serve as guidelines.

1 ) You may not disrupt any post in any way or by using such actions as trolling or derailing.

Trolling / Troll - Is defined as where a user posts inflammatory, or off-topic messages intended to provoke other users into a desired emotional response or to otherwise disrupt the topic.

Do not post with the sole intent of upsetting other players. If you want to leave criticism, consider your post and word it constructively.

Offenses in this category include but are not limited to:

Creating threads or posts with the intent of causing unrest on the forums.

Posting to offend, insult, taunt or aggravate other forum users and staff.

Continuous posting to defame or discredit CodeClub, its products, users and staff.

2 ) You may not harass (sexually or otherwise), verbally abuse, threaten, berate, flame or cause unwanted distress to anyone.

3 ) You may not use sexually explicit, harmful, threatening, abusive, defamatory, obscene, hateful, racially or ethnically offensive language. This includes workarounds, symbols, links, misspelling and text within images.

4 ) You may not use images, names or avatars unsuitable for a young audience, or which would be likely to cause offense. This includes pornography, obscene imagery, racially offensive imagery, imagery symbolic of themes which would cause offense, or images that contain inappropriate text.

5 ) You may not discuss, post items or links on religion, pornography, illegal drugs or the abuse of such drugs, or game exploits such as ‘warez’ (including illegal torrents), macros and all other disallowed game practices as per the game rules.

Also do not post links for any item that involves copyrighted material. If the item seems too good to be true its usually illegal, so if uncertain ask first.

6 ) You must use English when speaking on public chat channels in-game, and on the forum. If you cannot use English, we suggest the use of a translator.

7 ) You may never impersonate any user of the Wurm Online forums, and you may certainly not impersonate any member of Wurm Online staff, or falsely suggest that you are staff.

8 ) You may not use the Wurm forums to sell or advertise the sale of products which are illegal, or are not concerned with Wurm Online.

9 ) You may not accuse or suggest that other users have broken the Wurm Online forum, chat or game rules in any part of the forum. Such accusations should be sent to forum, chat or game moderators respectively. Even if it is proven that users have broken the rules, it is not allowed to discuss it in the forum.

10) You should never challenge moderation in public. All issues relating to moderation should go to the moderator in question. If a satisfactory solution cannot be achieved then post your concerns to the Head Game Master.

Moderation Actions

Topic / Post Removal / Editing -Moderators may remove or edit any post or topic which they believe is in breach of Wurm Online forum rules.
User Intervention Request - Moderators may ask that users modify their own posts within a set time period, usually 24 hours after next login.
Warning - Moderators may warn any user for breaches of the forum rules.
Temporary Ban - Moderators may issue temporary bans of 30 days in length for breaches of the forum rules.
Permanent Ban - Moderators may permanently ban any user who offends on a regular basis, or whose offense is severe. All permanent forum bans are subject to review.

I assume the 'ban' here refers to forum bans.  How is that going to be enforced?

I know exactly why you are posting this and I do remember back when I started the game almost three years ago that it was a very harsh community even back then. It was almost like you had to be rude and obnoxious to fit in and get excepted. I guess over time I just rolled with it and now It seems second nature to attack when you don't like other peoples views and it has gotten crazy at times.

I guess this means that we should be seeing more moderation of these rules now that you are bringing them to lite like this?

Yes, with a clearer set of rules hopefully people will start thinking that extra time if this is contructive or not.

We want an atmosphere of sharing and doing so invitingly as to include, not exclude people.

I am also going to be giving the forum mods less restrictions to be able to be more agile when topics get out of hand or they themselfs are threatened.

There is already and has been for some time a system in place for handling this.

It will be enforced by taking into consideration severity and repeat of offences.

But getting banned on forums will also often lead to a check if the same behaviour is going on ingame.

Depending on severity once more, your actual account and ip is liable for permanent ban with continuos abuse.

This is however nothing new, it is just an update based on an old set of rules to make it easier for everyone to interprete.

Does this relate to how topics are locked on the forums or the questioning of Wurm staff in general?  I.E. if a topic is locked, don't make a new topic to circumvent the lock, or does it mean I'm not allowed to question staff at all?  I.E. Shut up, give us your money and play ball?

yes, this picture was taken on the 6th Freedom Tournament at Tab Dance Harbor. We had an issue with the fights in the arena, but it turned out in a cool street fight pretty soon.

When moderation has already been used to say close a subject then yes, reposting on that exact subject is in violation of the code of conduct. Feedback should always be contructive and in a two way comunication.

All we ask is that this kind of feedback is done through the propper channels and in a civil manner.

Where answers are not available, because we are a company wich also have our own integrity to consider, the forums are not the place to vent your frustration over this fact.

i'm glad to see this..the game chat and forum chat should be free of harrassment and character assassinations.  I had made a post looking for a player who owes me a weapon in auction i won..and not long into the response posts some hijacked the post to attack each other an issues not pertaining to my post

I believe its directed to just straight out moaning and complaining about it without giving constructive criticism on how to improve the aspect that one dislikes about the changes / additions in a respectable manner. Im sure you can voice your opinion, but there's a clear line of voicing an OPINION and dislike to something from the polar opposite of flaming such changes.
