The Festival Grounds project has been cancelled.  Please see my reply post a few responses down for explanation and a bit of a rant.

 

Hello all,

 

I recently acquired the settlement token for "Poco" - a moderate to small-ish deed right next to Sloping Sands (Spawn).  After discussing it with friends and my alliance members, we thought it would be a fun idea to create a set of Festival Grounds to hold server-wide events in this spot.

 

Some ideas for festival events that were tossed around were:

 

Impalongs (of course)

Catapult/Cart Races

Obstacle Courses

Live Auctions

Treasure Hunts

Skill Competitions

Raffles/Lotteries

 

I thought it  would be a good idea to post a topic here and get others thoughts/interest/opinions on creating something like this.  The project would be a lot of work and resources, but we're willing to do it if there is interest.  The idea would be to coordinate a fairly large event every couple months with lots of prep work for each event in between.  Ideally it would be fun if people from Pristine wanted to attend as well.

 

It's also been suggested that we could additionally create a small area/space for newcommer classes to be used in between Festies (teaching things like sensible wood harvesting/sprouting, group tours to popular markets and settlements, one to one help with finding locations for settlements and/or housing, etc.)

 

So before we begin the project in earnest, I'd love to hear feedback from others.  Is there any interest in something like this, would you attend?  What types of events would you like most to see, etc.

I would love a public training dummy grounds. Fighting skill is hard to deal with when you're a newbie!

I'd certainly attend these events, as I am no longer hosting one on Independence!

 

I would caution against making them too frequent though - if you have an impalong every few months then it completely loses the special value it has. I would honestly stick with doing that around christmas, while having other events throughout the year (contests are fun, regardless of what the challenge is! Cow races are ridiculously popular, in my experience).

This started out as a thread about a possible festival grounds - but I'm so personally defeated by the level of bullying, selfishness and manipulation that I see players exhibit toward one another that I have decided I am no longer interested in any kind of "community service" project.  Community service and even silver out of pocket for what?  Helping potential sociopaths and emotinoally distrubed ppl continue to use a game environment to exhibit deviant personality traits on each other?  No thanks!  (I swear students in Psychology could do their master's thesis on this place and find examples of just about every deviant or "borderline" personality disorder in the books!)

 

I'm sorry if that sounds harsh, but I have never seen such a collection of narcissistic, selfish bullies in one place, in my life.   If I didn't enjoy the mechanics of the game so much and have a few good friends that thankfully are outside this group I would probably quit completely.

 

At any rate, if anyone is interested, I will be selling what's left of the Poco deed - it doesn't have much of value at this point as all the walls have been torn down and the buildings destroyed as part of the plans to set up the festival grounds site.  However, it does have one thing going for it - if you can stand it - and that's its location. It is literally steps away from SS and Spawn.

 

Please PM me if you're interested in trading for the deed - doesn't have to even be silver - will entertain offers of trade in goods/materials as well.

(MY apologies for the seemingly abrupt change of heart - but its actually been building for a long while - almost since the day I first logged in - but I was hoping that a community project would help build some commraderie and a spirit of fun cooperation amongst the locals....but then I always have been an idiot idealist. )

Wow. You'd almost think that the responses between the first post and the second were death threats and robbery! I assume what turned you off was all done in game, but even still...
