Posted July 1, 2013 The short version is that a merchant is a NPC placed by a player that sells items the player gives it to sell. Merchants will never buy anything back from players. Traders are NPC's that sell game items like settlement forms, farwalker twigs, etc and will also buy items from players when they have money (they get the money that is redistrubuted from player upkeep) and will also make a trade for items that players have sold them.
