Unable To Launch (Wurm Folder Permanently Read-Only)

Recommended Posts

Starting today it's impossible to launch the game. Whenever I try to patch it gets stuck after patching graphics.jar and sound.jar and getting to META-INF/MANIFEST.MF.

Toggling the optional packs does nothing. I looked into the packs folder and it seems the problem is that Windows 7 insists on making the files read-only, so whenever the launcher tries to write to graphics.jar it gets stuck. I tried to delete the packs and I get the same error once it has re- downladed the packs. I have rebooted. I have reinstalled the game. I have tried in different folders on different harddisks. I have tried with a different Windows user.I even reinstalled Windows (due to other bugs, but I figured this was a good time to do it). The problem still persists.

Going into to the parent folder in Windows and de-selecting "read only" makes Win 7 remove the "read only" on all files and subfolders, but as soon as any file is written to the folder everything is read-only again. Normally I would have suspected it was a problem with my Windows, but with a clean reinstalled Win 7 I am at a loss. I still suspect it's still somehow related to a local problem, but this is really strange. And I didn't have the problem until today.

Edit: I tried copying over the packs directory from my laptop (which runs the game without problems). It still gets stuck at exactly the same point. User access control is disabled.

Have you tried downloading all of these and placing them into your Packs folder?

http://www.wurmonlin...ks/graphics.jar

http://www.wurmonlin...xperimental.jar

http://www.wurmonlin...packs/sound.jar

I also have the pmk.jar file, but I don't know if everyone else does:

http://www.wurmonlin...m/packs/pmk.jar

Hopefully it helps. :)

This worked for me after all the other suggested methods failed, those 4 files copy and pasted into an empty packs folder.
