Posted February 8, 2013 A name change contract would be an item purchasable from a trader for around 25 silver.Using the contract would allow a player to change their character's name.Changing the name would consume the contract, and produce an event message on ALL servers: "PlayerName has changed his name to NewPlayerName"Also, an entry would be made in the area history of all tokens, to minimize the chance of this being used to hide a bad reputation. In addition, there would be a 6-month cooldown between name changes.

Posted February 8, 2013 You'd encounter same issues WoW has. People scam, steal, borrow, etc, get a name change, and never seen again. -1.
Posted February 8, 2013 What about a name history upon examination?ie: [12:24:57] You are with the Horde of the Summoned.[12:24:57] He is very strong and has a good reserve of fat.[12:24:57] He has gone by the name(s); Lingbo, Equinox and Griebo.
Posted February 8, 2013 This could cause all sorts of confusions if people choose the same name, or names that others have used in the past.Quite apart from GM's trying to keep tabs on who is doing what. It's hard enough as it is at the moment.
Posted February 8, 2013 Most griefers, trolls and scammers don't need skills, they'd just make new chars anyway. Those that do want skills, just sell their old char, make a new forum account and buy a different char. Its the same as all that macro prevention crap. The bad guys don't even care, but all the the regular players are denied from a nice long wanted feature. As far as confusion goes, this could even help, because people who buy a char can change the name to signify the switch. I believe this case would be far more common than someone trying to fake a sell in order to clean their slate.Rather than preventing the majority of players from legimitedly using a good feature, you'd better focus on making it easy to detect and punish the few cases of abuse. In this case a dated name change history would be nearly flawless in clearing out any confusion that may arise.
