Posted February 2, 2013 uhm....i trained my fs faster with changing the fighting stance several times...^^ cause then their skillpoints add to the main fs and no...dont think it needs a buff, if someone really wants to learn fighting it goes fast and if you are bad at it you just need to look out for fences and houses and good armors and enough cotton, so in case you hit something harder you can retreat and fight againThe only benefit to using multiple stances is the stance bonuses.Defensive stance reduces your damage output, but also increases your survivability. You will gain weapon skills slower in this stance because the best weapon skill gains occur when doing damage. Parrys give weapon skill as well, but only 10% or so of a typical skillgain when you hit something on average.Normal fight stance has no advantage or disadvantageAggressive stance reduces defensive capability while increasing damage output.I fought defensive with Bob with shortswords for years. Got up to 45 short sword skill.I fought aggressive with Bob for two days, about 8 hours total hunting time, and got up to 35 large maul skill.Part of the discrepancy was that I was being foolish, using a low damage weapon in a low damage stance. I was hoping that one Day Rolf would fix shortswords to five them pvp viability, but it's never happened. So I thought about it. I wear plate armor, so I can take a hit. When in defensive mode I can fight a very long time even when overmatched, provided I have a weapon that can parry. If I can afford to go into aggressive mode because I wear heavy armor, I should capitalize on it, and chose a very high damage weapon that I knew can also parry, so I could fall back to defensive mode at need. Then I decided that I would get a Life Transfer weapon to make it less likely that I would need any healing at all.It took Bob 4 years to go from 0-60 fight skill, and 8 hours to go from 60 to 70 fight skill with Plate Armor in Aggressive mode, wielding a large maul with Life Transfer. So, subskills are not a DIRECT impact on fight skill, but if you have access to good equipment and especially a life transfer weapon, fight skill is crazy easy in aggressive stance. Once you get your 70 fight skill, go ahead back and work the other modes if you want. Aggressive mode with a two handed weapon in PVP is just asking to make you an archery casualty though, so PVPers will have more training needs
Posted February 2, 2013 all i want is for trolls to give more fs gain to make it worth fighting them instead of letting the tower guards have them .if you think about it they were one of the first green mobs before greenish mobs were added lol
Posted February 2, 2013 Here we go again. Classic analogy I always give here:Raging unicorn dying in a few hits and giving good fs? - take a 70fs player, and kill them when they're naked with only a sword. You'll kill them very fast, maybe take some damage, and get great fs gainsRaging troll taking forever to kill and giving same fs? - take a 70fs player, and kill them when they're in armor with a shield and a sword. You'll take a long longer to kill them, take more damage because of it, but get the same fs.Fight skill gain doesn't need to be changed, you just need to understand you're dealing with different armors per animal, and trolls in this case have a club that they can parry with as well.Bull crap it takes forever. is only one of 56 other nessicary combat skills and sucks
Posted February 2, 2013 I don't think FS overall needs a buff at all, but trolls could give a little more. As it is, I don't know of a single player who bothers killing them unless they have a condition that will give a reasonable amount of FS, or they're in the way. Much easier just to ignore them by running past, or perhaps calling TG's on them because the amount of damage to weapons, armour, self and time taken is just not balanced by the pitiful FS gains from them. This then leaves trolls roaming around for the players without the ability to kill/run or hide from it to get smooshed in the face when least expecting it. Posted February 2, 2013 Id settle for the same fight skill per troll but make them a lot easier to kill. It seems that trolls and unicorns never meet their makers.
Posted February 2, 2013 I don't want them easier to kill, still need SOMETHING to be scared of.

They focus, they can de-focus you, they regenerate, they have the ability to parry, but they give the same experience, roughly, as a horse with a horn. Posted February 2, 2013 I'd rather see a server with good reliable hunting than increased skillgain I can't make it 2 tiles out of my village walls without being greeted by all sorts of wildlife both aggressive and passive. Heck the passive stuff even spawns in my walls and tramples my fields. So such servers already exist.Anyway on topic, while the gains for different creatures could use better balance it'll never be perfect and there will always be things that give better gains relative to the work put in. It's just a matter of figuring out what's best for yourself through trial and error with your current gear and skill.
Posted February 3, 2013 Trolls give plenty of FS, you just need to adjust your tactics to your target. They are the only creatures with a massive club... so maybe it's not such a great idea to run right up and start swinging. You know... you could pull out a bow and get higher than average archery skillgain while getting a decent amount of FS. Trolls are some of the best mobs for training archery... and they give plenty of FS as they are. You can't realistically expect to kill everything the exact same way... that would be lame and boring, anyway.
