Wurm Historical Summary

Recommended Posts

This was originally going to only be a creation story, but it evolved into an entire history of Wurm up until the last years of the Ageless. Please note that this is the history of what happened on the other side of the portals to the islands in which the game is played. Golden Valley is the only part of this region that we can actually see. When we entered Golden Valley, it is hinted from the backstory that we were actually people who lived in the world described bellow that were sent to the portals in order to spread the empires' grasp to the other side (type "/info" ingame for more info on this). I guess the Freedom Isles could have been created when people were tired of the fighting on Chaos and they crossed the sea in search of a place to build a peaceful society. Epic was created by the gods when they lifted the islands out of the ocean. Its purpose is to challenge people in order to pick new gods.

Lots of this is going to change probably. Think of this as a rough draft.

This was taken from the Kellon College in Rockinfjord. It was written in the 1207th year of the Ageless.

Before existence, there was nothing. In fact, time did not exist, so this time period never occurred. Existence began with a bang as a ball of all matter, energy, and spirits came into being. This ball has expanded, is expanding, and will expand into the empty space that surrounds it for perpetuity. The parts of the universe can break into smaller parts for all eternity because there is no end to how small things can be. There is no such thing as "an instant after the bang," because time can always be measured in smaller increments. In the first second, an infinite amount of worlds came into being and ceased to exist. The grains of sand in one world become the stars of the next. All material will exist forever, but not in the same form. Even our world will one day end as it is inevitably pulled apart by the surrounding emptiness.

Our own world was created when a sun shattered into dust. The particles collided and split apart for billions of years, until finally they settled into a stable system. The planets cooled, and the seeds of life hatched into new things able to hold souls. They started out weak and small, but over the years life evolved into the way it is today. Powerful creatures arose to rule over their domains.

The Great and Powerful Wurm appeared and gave birth to the first dragons. Dragons remained uncontested on Wurm for millions of years. The Wurm became lazy and slept in his cave. Animals from the Isles of Creation evolved and spread to the surrounding islands. Eventually, the modern sentient races came into being. From their lack of ignorance, they gained an inner Black and an inner White. They also gained powerful abilities locked away in their minds that could be released through meditation. They lived in wandering tribes until they learned how to grow food. Then they built the first great cities. Technologies evolved, and soon enough the humans could slay dragons to claim their hunting grounds for their own. The Wurm, however, was still sleeping and did not know of this. Without a leader, the dragons were not smart enough to group up to fight back and they were slowly pushed to near extinction in the regions were the races lived.

Shortly after the discovery of steel, a group of human explorers mistakenly came across the Wurm's cave and woke it. The result was the worst war of all of our history. The Wurm gathered all of his followers, and in large groups they burned towns to ash. Many races went extinct under his wrath, including the gnomes (though some believe that a group of gnomes escaped to somewhere). Many of the human clans and tribes were turned to ash overnight. It looked like all hope for humanity was lost, until The Four came. Magranon, Vynora, Fo, and Libila worked together to slay the Wurm and succeeded in forcing it to leave to Valerie. Life for humanity returned to the way it was before, and The Four were crowned as the greatest heroes of all human history. They caught the attention of Walnut, and he appeared to them with offerings to join the gods on Valerie. They accepted and agreed to gain power from The White. However, Libila was jealous for power and wanted it all for her own. She tried to kill the others, and when she did this The White regected her and she became a god of The Black. Knowledge of the gods slowly spread from the eastern world to the southern and western worlds. (eastern world is like Europe, southern world is like Africa and western world is like Asia. There is also a continent in the southwest that is based on the Americas and a giant plain of ice to the north that is said by some to go on for eternity, getting colder the farther you go.)

The time period that occurred after the dragon war became known as the Age of Anarchy. Many regions that previously had prosperous empires became empty wastelands full of bandit tribes and the new hordesmen that were loyal to Libila. A few stable governments appeared in the devastated regions, but they were mostly city states. With the addition of priests that could cast magical spells, battles became more devastating. The world stayed in this way for about 650 years, until finally new clans began to spread prosperity over the wastelands. The clans spread and kept power for about 1500 years, until new powers arose.

The following age was known as the Age of Imperialism. The Latinicans formed an empire in the east, starting around the Gull Sea and spreading south towards the hot coast of Aran. In the west, several empires spread and fought each other for control. Over time, the Latanican empire began to fall to the northern tribes.

In the last years of the empire, the Latanican leaders tried to find a new way to regain power. At this same time, Libila had done the Unthinkable. She had stolen a cherry from Walnut and she broke it into 30 pieces. She then appeared to the leaders of the empire and offered them great power in exchange for their souls. The 30 that accepted the curse became known as the Derype, and after a brief period of conflict they united to take over the world. Using our new power, we spread fear among the people and conquered every kingdom on the known portion of the globe. We rejected Libila and the other gods by blocking them out of Wurm. We took technologies from the world and spread them around. We became the first to accurately map all of the continents and minor islands.

In order to keep the peace, the land was seperated into a confederacy of 20 vicroyalities. Other members of the ageless were given high positions in the military and government. When each Derype dies, the cherry is then taken back to Provectus, were it is given to a person who has proven his worth. Usually a replacement is created by training a group of humans to be elite soldiers starting at birth, and then having them spar in both physical and intellectual battles. The winner is given a cherry, while the losers are given a high ranking job in the military. The eater of the cherry takes on abilities that makes him or her similar to a god, but not quite.
We are the Black, we are man's only kings, and we were the first to conjoin the world. One day, we will become gods of all!

The rest of the story can be found here: http://wurmpedia.com...x.php/Backstory (for the northeastern continent)

Note that everything I wrote above isn't official. I changed the part about Johan king a bit, and made him the first king of Mol-Rehan in the time period before the ageless. (http://forum.wurmonl...s-of-mol-rehan/)
