Posted December 28, 2012 (edited) I cant... but I think its lots of beard men then one without beard, but not last one. What is this about? Are those bilbo and his companions on odd journey and nonbearded one is bilbo? That way I could name a bunch of them, but I would need to read the story several times over again.Edit: I'd love a real fan list their names. Posted December 29, 2012 (edited) Edit: I'd love a real fan list their names.well I didn;t think I could do this earlier today but since then I have gotten much better so let me give a try --First you have brothers Dwalin (big bald axes gruff) and Balin (old whitebeard kind to bilbo). Then three silly-oddball brothers Dori (chamomile tea and fruity red wine) Nori (three braids beard) and Ori (shy sweet slingshots)Gimli's dad Gloin and his brother Oin (mostly because he is the only one I otherwise can't name very easy and he is always standing next to his brother, gimli's dad who looks the most like gimli)Three more goofy brothers in Bifur (axe IN the head) Bofur (hat ON the head. and had some good moments in the film re dwarves having no real home) and Bombur (monstrously fat)Fili (cute but not as cute as brother) Kili (zomg boyband hot darkhair, plus he is an archer)Gandalf (not a dwarf of course) Bilbo (not even a beard either) and finally the leader of our company --- Thorin Oakenshield.TA DA!Now I will admit the first few times I was trying to sort them all out, consulting the dwarven beard cheat sheet on a few of the trickier ones but now I can do it on my own without any references to the chart:And yes I am a HUGE fan of the movie and I think all the professional nasty tempered movie critics who trashed this movie are all paid minions of Sauron, we hatesss them forever.I did see the standard oldfashioned 24fps version and have heard one person suggest its mostly people who saw the newfangled 48fps/3D version who hated the entire film start to finish, because of the way it "disconnected" viewers from the fantasy of the story. And oddly that theory does seem to hold up in a lot of cases where people mention which version they saw. So if you haven;t yet seen it (WHAT?!?) definitely pick the oldstyle 24 framerate version. Posted December 29, 2012 Who here has seen the Rankin and Bass animation of the Hobbit ... who here would like to take a baseball bat to their knees.I can live with a 24fps vs 48fps debate in light of previous attempts.

Posted December 29, 2012 (edited) Awesome movie. Only real criticism I can agree with is the director really needs to learn how to edit movies for time. Some scenes and shots were just overly drawn out or not needed for pacing.Overall was well worth the money I shucked out, and then some.Rankin and Bass... Heh, recal that animation from childhood. The Hobbit one was okay. The songs were the best part of it by far. The LoTR ones got muddled really fast, and one had to have read the books to get any sense of what was going on. Posted December 29, 2012 The reviews make no since. Yes, its a lot different then the book in some ways. However, it is not the book so it can have some deviation. I think Tolkien would be impressed with it.

Posted January 5, 2013 (edited) I loved how they seemed to capture the "defining moments" of the series with both affection & humor Theoden's battlecry leading Rohan to Gondar's aid ("Ride now! Ride for ruin and the world's ending!") where he runs his sword along the weapons of the frontrow fighters was another one that had a funny moment (time @ 1:20:45) Edited January 5, 2013 by Brash_Endeavors
Posted January 6, 2013 I watched the movie in 3d, 48fps. Maybe i'm stupid but i honestly didn't notice much difference. The movie was awesome though.
Posted January 7, 2013 (edited) I need to see the movie! Other than that I think films are getting too long, either bring back intervals or genuinely take into account the endurance of the human bladder and/or learn how to cut films!! For me it's just another reason to not go to the movies, why spend upwards of £20 for three hours of trying to drink as little water as possible etc. A lot of cinemas are selling less drinks recently too, partly because they're overpriced but also partly I imagine because people don't want them any more x)Was an interesting discussion on TV about this a few days ago, I'm sure there will be more though. Loads of new films like Skyfall are quite long, that seems to be the trend now. Edited January 7, 2013 by Docterchese
Posted January 8, 2013 Nah, they aren't getting too long, I would gladly sit for a 6 hour movie as many times as needed to watch them all, as long as they keep them as well made as the LOTR Also I have seen the Hobbit, you really do need to see it before it becomes old news ;DIt is an extremely awesome movie btw!
