Posted November 24, 2012 (edited) I was talking with my friend on steam and he asked me if there are going to be different races in wurm 1.0 and this idea came to my head. I think there should be a different race for each server after 1.0 with some small bonuses or something. Toughts? Edited November 24, 2012 by atazs
Posted November 24, 2012 (edited) doesn't really seem like wurm's thing..unless it's like a blacksmith, or fisherman or something like that where it gives like a 5% bonus to w/e "race?" you picked Edited November 24, 2012 by Mattown
Posted November 24, 2012 i actually like this idea... without the bonus part though.
Posted November 25, 2012 Like dwarves and elves? No, and really, there's no need for this. Wurm has no back history of anything but human.

Posted November 25, 2012 They simply would not add any real depth to the game, not to mention, no one roleplays.

Posted November 25, 2012 and what about races like in the real world? i wouldnt mind it tbh^^ but on the other side I wouldn't want it server sided....
Posted November 25, 2012 Real life races for player customization? Sure, I don't see why not. Fantasy races? No thanks, -
Posted November 25, 2012 (edited) Who doesn't want to be a half-troll? Would be pretty cool, but I don't see this as actually being an important feature. Edited November 25, 2012 by Draulius
Posted November 25, 2012 Only if it's real life 'races' like black, hispanic, asian, etc.I wouldn't mind seeing specific factions having visual differences either. Like there sort of is now. BLers are always pale, no matter what colour they are (pale black guys look really creepy) with ashen skin and washed out hair. MR would be a little more muscular and rugged/outdoorsy looking since they're Mountain Men, and JK would be... I dunno standard?
Posted November 25, 2012 Nah I like it human only. Please don't make this like WoW.
Posted November 25, 2012 Humans only... not server dependent though.
Posted November 25, 2012 This will just turn into a putrid mess of racial slurs and other completely unacceptable trolling between the kingdoms in less then an hour past implementation.
Posted November 25, 2012 Implementing something just because your friend asked if it is a feature is a bad idea. What possible gain is there in a true sandbox game to give different players specialist roles based on their choices when they created the character?-1. Posted November 25, 2012 (edited) Server Segregation? Bad racist idea. But if skin color is Northern European Pale in the upcoming 1.0 facial editor, then that is rather restricted racial selection.Allowing people to select racial identity with facial features is a good idea though, since IRL the world is bigger than this and generally people want to play what they look like. If someone is stupid enough to be racist towards an avatar based on IRL associations, that is a bannable offense already. There should be a range of white, pink, yellow, brown, black, red for no other reason than there is IRL. Maybe even some blue and green tints since the critters are dyed like that (maybe fantasy colors require in-game dye), at that point, pointy ears is a no-brainer to add because we are halfway there. Throw in body shape selectors and you now have dwarves and elves. I could care less about Wurms backstory because it is the players that write the history in this game, and if some blue elves with cat ears start showing up then that is what happened in Wurm. Does not take a new server to do this, only the artist needs to expand the range of character feature selections, the rest will take care of itself. And if Wurmians remain pale pink despite having options, then that is what happened in Wurm. Edited November 25, 2012 by yarnevk
Posted November 25, 2012 (edited) I forgot to add that i wasnt thinking about monster races eitherServer Segregation? Bad racist idea.lol Edited November 25, 2012 by atazs

But then it isn't my game but I think it's fine as is. I can see maybe allowing different shades of skin color but don't base it on races please. Base it on how much time people have spent in the sun. If I want to be pasty white because I'm a miner ok. If I want to be mahogany because I hunt a lot fine. But keep races out of it. Posted November 29, 2012 instead of races go with traits that you can choose that give small bonuses to certian actions or skillscan pick a new trait when the total of your parent levels reaches X and another at Y etc.and could give extra for campeigns events and acheivements
Posted November 29, 2012 Skin colour, body size and shape, facial feaures should just be customisable and cosmetic and with no artificial constraints. What might be more fun would be if your toon properly reflected your stats. Thinking more of the strength here but the stronger you get the more muscular/bulky your toon might look.

Basically defined the classic V and re-conceptualized body building. Was fanatical about combining speed, efficiency and power.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:The.Way.Of.The.Dragon.1972.Bruce.Lee.flex.front.jpg
Posted November 29, 2012 Add a race that mostly lives underwater, make them very slow above water and fast in/under water (say make their land speed equal to the current swimming speed, and the other way around for their water based speed). Also make it so that they cannot mount land based animals but they can mount special water based mounts (sharks and stuff?), probably making them faster than boats. Of course the underwater environment would need quite a workover and a ton of new assets for that to be interesting in any way and a ton of features would need to be modified for the underwater stuff. Way to much work to make it interesting and get right. So yeah, not viable and not happening, but fun to imagine.
