EDIT : I posted this before logging in, so I didnt know there was a patch last night, I'll confirm whether the issue is still present.

2nd EDIT : at first glance it appeared fixed, so i went for a bit of a walk, when i got back the oil tub, ovens, and a few other items were all white (no textures), relogging fixed this, so it seems intermittent, hard to replicate and not permanent.

I can also confirm that taking a screenshot of any of these items crashes the game.

3rd EDIT : Added crash report, console log and system info - if there's anything else that i can add that might help, let me know

I'm having a lot of issues with my textures. It's not as if they are completely missing, but sometimes the client can't load them.

Examples :

Butchering - when i butcher a corpse (most animals), and it changes to the butchered model, my texture goes missing (leaving the model either completely white or completely black)

Random Crops - Some crops appear as white planes swaying in the wind.

Relogging will fix it some of the time, however I have done this, and then traveled a short distance to find another broken object.

This started after the recent patch, I was using the unstable client with the regular packs, so i tried upgrading to the experimental packs and nothing changed.

I would post screenshots but that's not working for me either.

You are running out of (available) memory which is a bit odd considering your low settings. Try disabling sound or install a 64-bit java. You can also monitor RAM usage with the task monitor and report how memory usage behaves after logging in and turning in a full circle (does it rise steadily afterwards?).

I turned down the maximum texture size to 512mb and it hasn't happened since.

I'll perform the suggested test and report back ASAP

revisiting this because i have the bug again after a small ride out of town. I checked the RAM useage of wurm/java and it hasnt increased at all since i made my last post. (1.4gb)

any suggestions? I feel this issue effects more people than just myself.

How can I reduce the RAM useage of the client further, without turning sound off? (i also cant really go and download another java easily)

Reducing terrain texture resolution helps a lot; You can also enable texture compression. Using software sound might help in your case.

I haven't seen those people post here yet. It would help to get more reports.

I wanted to avoid texture compression, so ugly -_-

I am honestly confused though, this laptop has 4Gb of RAM (unless we're talking GDDR???)

My PC has half that and never has this issue.

It would make absolute sense if the problem was graphical memory, because i just have intergrated graphics (damn you intel *shakes fist)

Thanks for the help so far, I'll try turning sound to software and see how it goes.

Just a thought, I know you can limit a java applications memory usage, could i have inadvertently restricted the wurm client to a certain memory range? I'm not sure how i'd have done it an forgot though...

A 32-bit java process cannot use more than about 1.6 GB.

Have you tried updating your graphics driver? It should not be using that much memory in the first place, especially with low settings.

latest driver, otherwise i'd have 1fps and a pink overlay on all my terrain.

I'll try and budget my data for the java 64bit version download, because that makes a lot of sense if it caps to 1.6gb RAM

But as you say, it's odd the client us munching so much of my RAM in the first place, perhaps there is some other avenue we can explore ?

At this stage i've turned sound over to software and havent seen the bug yet, though i've not done any traveling.

This seems to (maybe) help with the RAM, its only at 1gb at this stage, however i feel if i went for a horse ride that could change.

UPDATE : I just had a little disconnect and relogged without the client closing or anything, i'm having some internet issues, but i noticed the FPS was very low, and checked the RAM, its up at 1.4gb right now. This sort of thing can happen to me 3 or 4 times in a day, perhaps it's something to do with this?
