Chivalry: Medieval Warfare

Recommended Posts

http://www.chivalrythegame.com/

CHIVALRY: Medieval Warfare is a first-person slasher with a focus on multi-player. Featuring competitive online combat that seeks to capture the experience of truly being on a medieval battlefield. We've drawn our inspiration from the intensity and epicness of swordfighting movies such as 300, Gladiator and Braveheart and we want to bring that experience to the hands of a gamer.

The game is skill-based and controls like a FPS, but instead of guns and grenades, players are given swords, shields, maces, battleaxes and longbows. Set in a fictional yet gritty and realistic world, players will fight in fast paced online battles besieging castles, raiding medieval villages and fighting for glory in the arena with up to 32 players.

They are currently Seeking 50k on Kickstarter and are offering some good deals on the pledges, imo the $75 ($18 Each) version is best (£12 each / £48) with early access (around next month - October) for 4 copies, so good for you and a few friends / good for wurmians if they wanted to join up in it,

The game will release Fall 2012, So, not long really, a few months xD

This game originally started off as a mod released back in 2007:

it had a small player base, and still kind of does since the game was discontinued last year in the hopes of making a standalone game (which will launch on steam) but created on the Unreal Engine.

So, Help fund if you're interested.

Oh and some compare it to Mount & Blade, but on a better fighting scale, those who don't like one will generally like the other :P

Usually Valve notices good mods and takes them and makes some pretty good stand alone games with em. Curious why they didn't do it for this... or did they? Can't wait for it to come out, looks like a good game and the kind of fighting I like alot, differs from the stale gameplay that seems common at the moment...

They were planning on releasing Content Release 3 (CR3) sometime last year iirc, but their plans were halted when they couldn't do what they wanted through the hl2 engine, Valve wanted something extra from it too (not in the good way) and wouldn't really allow much else, so they decided to use the Unreal engine, they later confirmed that they would be able to put the game on steam.

Thats what I kinda remember anyhow..

Also.. for anyone I may of played with in Age of Chivalry with, My name for it is -KoTrT- Sir Azreal A member of The Knights of The Round Table - Lead by the Mighty King Arthur, we ran a few servers on there through steamfriends at first until they wanted extra money then we ran a few other servers :P

Thing with valve too, is that they look for mods that have a lot of players, Age of Chivalry didn't have a lot of popularity and all its members that worked on it were voluntary.

Age of Chivalry lost popularity with some CR patchets, they killed fps :/. It was really laggy for a lot of people.

Aye, I was a major complainer of that, after CR1 the lag killed most of the population, they weren't quite sure what it was until retsnom figured out it was the playermodels, you can lower some settings so that everything still looks good, except you don't see the eyes on the enemies, which surprisingly increases fps a hell of a lot lol.

Looks pretty cool but could get a bit repetitive after a while. I'd love to see some kind of tactical way of attacking castles etc in the game, whereby you make the tactical decisions and have to live with them... you could storm the gates, scale the walls, even the stealth possibility of breaking in to a castle in secret then getting everyone with surprise would be epic. Walking in only to do hack and slash doesnt interest me at all x)

you can doctorchese, it's the same way in Age of Chivalry, there are set goals yes, but there are also optional ones that can benefit your team, you can also sneak through back passages, secret walls, over roofs, climb ladders etc and also catapults to destroy different bits of map for extra access and trebuchet's to launch people from far range over walls etc.

Age of Chivalry Maps with these in:

aoc_siege: Able to use the trebuchet to launch projectiles into the Archery tower, fire it 3 times and it destroys part of the tower and opens up the back wall for sneakier access, also using the catapult to blow open the gatehouse wall to stop archers hiding in it.

You can also climb a chimney once inside and run across the roof to the well area for a backroute / use the second chimney in there to drop into a meeting hall behind enemies too (this used to be the route to finish the map before masons spawned down below to defend the prince from being returned)

there is also a secret passage to the well area on the 3rd floor :P

aoc_darkforest: You can destroy the water supply to push the enemy team back to the 2nd area spawn point, allowing you to push the cart through the gate in the first objective.

Last bit of trying to kill the captured peasants you can blow open the gate, destroy the 2 archer towers, break in the side door and also blow open the far wall with the cata :P

aoc_helms_deep: You can use either a siege tower to get onto the enemy walls (takes its time to get there), or raise and climb the ladders to get onto the wall, you can run past the 1st & 2nd objective and enter the castle 2 different ways in order to use the enemy catapult / kill the one on it and also attack the enemy from behind / use archers to get an advantage xD

You can also use the cata in the first bit to fire into the main hall of the final objective and kill the defenders (always fun but takes someone who knows how to work a cata to set up)

And plenty more ....

You should try the mod - Oh and hacking and slashing isn't the only way of doing stuff, using the areas around you too, the_shore you can chop a tree down and kill people / chop it down to block access, lol, explosive barrels on objectives too... fun.

but yeah plenty of stuff :P
