Posted August 3, 2012 (edited) "Over time, the population of every village approaches one. Most players quit, or become mayors. Why fight it?" -- Garis of WealdinThe Northmere Alliance is a federation of land owners based in the northeast of Celebration, and we're always on the lookout for good players. Whether they seek citizenship in one of our villages, or to settle in the northeast, we can usually tell which players are made for these mountains. In general, rather than recruiting lots of new players into one village and spending all of our time trying to keep them happy and motivated, or living like hermits and getting discouraged in our fortresses of solitude, our members are usually deed owners, dedicated specialist craftsmen, or aspiring deed owners. This means we're almost all premium players with some skin in the game, who can appreciate the challenge and pride that comes from building up your own settlement. Our alliance gives us several advantages. Currently, every member of The Northmere is a premium player. If a villager wants to set out and found their own settlement, they can do so with the full support of the alliance. With mostly solo deeds, each of our members can set permissions for other member on a per-person basis, as they see fit.We don't have rules telling you what you have to contribute or what to do with your deed. For example, if a member want to give one someone mining access for a week, that's up to them. Our ranks include priests of Magranon, Fo, and Vynora. We have access to every major resource, and several rare metal types. We tend not to price-gouge one another, and none of us needs a handout. We also have high expectations of our our members. We want them to be active, intelligent, and of reasonably good character. We don't recruit part time occupants of Celebration, but only players who are committed to living here. Since nobody can turn off the /alliance channel, we expect people to conduct themselves in /alliance chat according to the rules that govern local chat. We save the rowdy, offensive, and wildly inappropriate talk for IRC, and have a system in place for resolving the rare conflicts that pop up. If someone needs to leave, for personal reasons or to get some space, or if they lapse for a while due to RL, they can come back.As an alliance, we work together to develop infrastructure in our region, especially roads, highways, tunnels, towers, ports, and mines. We keep a good balance between progress on the home front and development of our region. If this sounds like a community you'd enjoy, drop me a PM on the forums, or send a message to me, Liviella, Nicefrog, Crick, or Eldris in game. Posted August 4, 2012 Hey, just wanted to say that how you use the alliance system to make a village that is not the typical pick communist collective or authoritarian regime is really nice. Glad to know that there is such out there if I ever un-nub myself.
Posted August 4, 2012 Not allowing your members to have any villagers is a big restriction, I might have joined otherwise.
Posted August 4, 2012 (edited) Not allowing your members to have any villagers is a big restriction, I might have joined otherwise. We don't have any rule against it, it's just uncommon. If a village joined with more than one member we'd expect them all to follow the chat rules, and be of reasonably good character. Posted August 5, 2012 You said solo deed owners only, you also said everyone has to be premium account.
Posted August 5, 2012 We'd accept a village with F2P players if we thought they were a good fit.

Posted September 9, 2012 (edited) As a note, I'm a member of Northmere and have a couple of villagers, but I'm pretty selective about recruitment (i.e. not actively recruiting, but sometimes someone catches my eye) and usually check in with Garis first, is all. I really enjoy the alliance Edited September 9, 2012 by Cally
Posted September 17, 2012 I'm debating coming back to Wurm. I really enjoyed the game but bit off more than I could chew and burned out. The idea of joining a collective of deed owning individuals appeals to me and I'd love to chat with you guys a bit and see if there is a fit. Also my toon is on Exo, how hard would it be to get a lift down there?Ursine.
Posted September 21, 2012 I'm kicking myself for not seeing your post, Ursine. Ashoof sailed down last night through Exo and might have been able to give you a lift.Regardless, chances are very good that we'd be able to help you get down here. Let's chat in PMs.
Posted September 22, 2012 It's an awesome idea this one Garis!!Wonder where have you been all this time!! it's Faldan here from Indy I'd be interested to make part of it, but it's only avaiable to celebration or did i get it wrong?
Posted September 22, 2012 Yeah I don't think that alliances can span across servers, since whenever you cross a server boundary you're no longer a member of the village from that server, so there'd be no way for me to invite you as a representative of Wealdin Anchorage. But, Faldan, if you ever want to make a vacation home down here, or come down and set up a trade outpost or something, let me know and I'd happily invite you. Posted October 4, 2012 Congratulations to our newest member, Spiderwood Valley, led by Faithe.Faithe was a new player with no experience who struck out into a tough chunk of wilderness that we call The Spiderwood, built herself a guard tower, survived by the skin of her teeth, and earned enough coin through hard work and determination to afford premium and her own deed. She's a success story that every new player can be proud of and aspire to duplicate, and we're proud to finally have her in the alliance.
Posted October 5, 2012 (edited) A wonderful alliance to be a part of. I'll be starting a colossus under the name of Northmere, sometime next week, probably wednesday. I suspect this will be one of many. Edited October 6, 2012 by Mallaboro

Posted November 23, 2012 (edited) It's been a while since I've publicly welcomed our new members to the Northmere.Welcome to Celtic Highlands, Mira's Garden, Damascus, Adeptus Astartes, the Ghostwood, Port Flamewrath, Terrace Gardens, and the new owner of Mount New Hope. Also, a warm "welcome home" to several of our returning members, who've been away. As you can see, we've kept the home fires burning strong.Edit: Added a Roster under the OP. Map is forthcoming. Edited November 23, 2012 by Garis

Posted December 8, 2012 Added new alliance map, updated description of the alliance. We also now have a page set up in the wiki, so our member settlements can put up some cool information about their deeds and people:/>http://wurmpedia.com/index.php/Northmere_Alliance
