Trying to find a post on the darkness issue

Does anyone have a link to the post on how to resolve the nighttime being way too dark?  My friend can barely see further than 2 tiles. Changing the gamma settings on his graphics card isn't helping.  He has an nvidia graphics card.  Does anyone know of a common fix for this issue?

Unfortunately we've tried that, and it didn't help with the lighting issue.  Upping the gamma just gave him brighter darkness, and didn't give any definition to distant objects.    However for anyone having this issue, running the game in fullscreen mode seemed to help my friend with his issue.  I'm not sure why that fixed it, but it's simple enough that it may be worth trying.
