Its lighter than plate. Although its heavier than studded leather, it gives much more protection.

There is a breakdown of the different armour types @ http://wurmpedia.com/index.php/Armour. When I first started making chain armour a 50 ql set let me beat a black bear with 2 fight skill and a maul which i also had 0 skill in. Add a horse to the equation and you are golden.
