Ideas To Make Wurm More Enjoyable

this is going to be a long list of ideas some I read in the rest of this forum:

I like the game but it lacks some action like what you will read in this thread.I think these idea will be worth adding.

  • I think in both PVE and PVP servers that a idea that would be cool is more defense structures such as better wall that player can walk on and other different defences such as different towers and a area that you can have milita and knights and such could spawn from also gates that have iron bars should be buildable this I have pulled from different threads plus any other diffences you can think of from midevil times.
  • another more animal to hunt that will not murder newbs
  • 3 factions in both PVP and PVE that you can work with a evil faction a neutrul faction and a good faction that player can chose from the good and evil factions are for the players who like combat but do not want to fight in the PVP server because of all the high combat lvl players and the neutral for the people who want to make a peaceful life for themselve making and selling wepons and tools to the other factions
  • more choices of rocks and stones to build statues and other structures that are made of stone
  • The ability to hitch a horse to a small cart
  • more NPC's
  • more skills like a actual hunting skill and grave stone crafting etc. etc.
  • more ships and ways to use a ship like cannons grapaling hooks also a cannoe etc.
  • being able to put smaller items on tables flowers candals small statues etc.
  • easyer to find animals like cows and pigs and chickens
  • more wepons tools clothing armour and buildings such as wind mills etc.
  • more rivers and a bigger map

From my experience... on the PvP servers... the major factor that turns any battle into a loosing battle out of the gate is pets. It unbalances pretty much every fight I have seen them involved with... small and large.

As for combat in general... lots and lots that could be done to enhance it. Most games are combat based with crafting an added flavor. Wurm is the total opposite... a crafting based game with combat an added flavor.

got a lot of ideas for wurm online that would probably make more players go primium for the greatness of wurm the money from primium from these ideas and any others I post would make wurm even greater

As a player I would pay for the feathers I give because it makes it a lot funner even thought I am just a player this game is fun but it could be awsome from feathers that only a high skill player could get great at

I come on every day but it is easy to get a hold of me my in game name is dragonfire and I can talk to any GM intrested in my ideas I am from the USA and am on every day some time it is only in the morning because deliverence crashes on me a lot at night deliverence is my server I play on

Ahh sorry. Your topic title kinda confused me with your actual post Coo.

Seems like your post is more "Ideas to make Wurm more enjoyable". A lot of what you talk about have no impact on combat.

Cause strictly speaking combat within Wurm... there is a lot to be desired in even its base mechanics to bring it up to par with most combat within mmo's.

If you were to ask me "What can we add to make the combat more fun within Wurm?" my answer would be "The first step is redesign the whole combat mechanic. Its not user friendly nor in line with any proven templates of a working and fun combat system."

Half of what you listed have nothing to do with making combat more enjoyable. And have you heard about something called an edit button to edit your posts Instead of triple posting??

Do you mean we can only react if we agree with your suggestions, or you want responses that are well reasoned, be they for or against your points?

I know this was being worked on - I assume it requires the same code as multilevel housing for it to work as far as being on top of a wall. Militia already spawn from towers, and you can already make iron gates - or did you mean a portcullis? I believe that is likely when the new walls etc are brought in. There are images in the old graphics thread (about 200+ pages long in City Hall I think).

The difficulty is that mobs spawn all over the pace. Wurm isn't like many other MMO's where you start in an area with weak mobs, and move up the difficulty ranks, everything is everywhere, so more weak mobs won't really help.

I'm against having a neutral faction on a PvP server. If you don't like PvP, don't live on a PvP server. The griefing potential for a neutral faction on a PvP server is horrendous.

Some variety here would be a nice touch.

The small cart description does (or did?) mention this. I wouldn't say no to the idea of a bull or something towing a small cart when led by a player. Would be slower than walking, but faster than dragging the cart.

If you can't raise FS by hunting, then you could only raise it by fighting other people. This would be abused with alts etc on PvP servers 100x worse than has happened in the past. Not sure gravestone crafting is needed - that would be stone cutting. The ability to make them could be a nice touch - has to be built on a corpse. However, there are already a LOT of skills in Wurm, I'm not sure how many more are 'needed' when most new items that one might add could fall under the current skills.

  • more ships and ways to use a ship like cannons grapaling hooks also a cannoe etc.

Not sure how viable canons etc would be for naval combat with this code. I'd rather see PvP combat refined and perfected (it's a fair way away...) than adding new ways to fight at this time. As for new boats, people have discussed something like a canoe or coracle which could have its place in the game. As for other larger ships, I'd rather see uses for the current ones further specialised, like the corbita has a large hold but is slow - merchant ship. The knarr could probably have a reduced hold size with increased speed. The cog has a smaller hold, but could be refined to be able to carry a couple of animals or something, so one and so forth.

Easier how? Do you mean more of them? I'd say no, if you really want one of these and you can't find any wild near you, trade for one/some.

I'd rather see the current weapons more finely balanced before new ones come in. Currently a minority are used regularly because one or two combo's are just easily the most effective. As for tools - need stuff to do with the tools first. Clothing and armour... again, the whole balance thing. We have plenty of armour types, but only 2 are regularly used (and studded for hunting sometimes). As far as buildings go - again, we need a purpose for them before we just bung in a building.

  • more rivers and a bigger map

Freedom has 5 maps, and Inde and Chaos are huge (4x the size of the server you're on). With a poor wind it can take 2 hours to sail across one of them. Worse depending on the boat. As for Epic - the idea is to promote PvP, not make it take an hour to travel to the nearest enemy town - that was part of the issue on Wild.

And I agree with Atazs - please use the edit option for your posts! I cleared a couple of the more unessesary ones.

I think there should be more to do decoratively in the game. Simple pass-times such as painting would be amazing - you could go somewhere, paint a picture of it, then come home and hang it on your wall. And with character customisation, portraits of players might be possible too. From a Freedom server perspective, having simple things to do in Wurm that are simply for enjoyment (not just having higher numbers in the skills tab) would be great.

I'd also like to see cross-server PMs, it would be cool to be able to contact friends on servers I used to live on.

I think you need to put some justification into your suggestions before you demand it in return.

I agree largely with what Hordern has said.

I dislike these "wish list" threads because half of the suggestions in them have been mentioned before and the whole point of a forum for this is you can already see if its been suggested, and the arguments for/against dont need to be repeated. So i'll be brutally honest, I dislike most of your suggestions for various reasons (and in no particular order):

  • 2 of your suggestions involve more non-aggro mobs. While i would like to see the cap raised if possible, there are plenty of non-aggro animals in the game as it is.

  • How is a hunting skill any different to the two skills fighting and archery? What's the point in grave stone carving skill if you can't have graves? More skills just for moreness is silly.

  • Two of your suggestions involve changing wurm's technology (cannons and windmills). I don't want to see cannons or any other gunpowder-based stuff in wurm, and windmills are a form of automation which just isnt necessary, and has been shot down in countless threads (see also: sawmill).

  • hitching horses to small carts - [18:30:43] A small two wheel cart designed to be dragged by one person. That's what large carts are for.

  • bigger map... are you crazy? wurm is huge, and has a tiny playerbase. There is no need for this. As for "more rivers" - there are no rivers at the moment. Dynamic water has been suggested lots elsewhere, and for now seems a far-off dream.

  • Good, evil, neutral factions - firstly i dont see how you could ever implement this in pve since there's no combat. I don't do pve, but i think many people believe there is no place for "neutrals" there, and after that isnt it basically just hots and non-hots?

  • more NPCs - why? Wurm is special because everything is done by players. What possible use is there for more NPCs?

Basically the only points i agree with are more aesthetic options for buildings and putting items on surfaces (both of which have been suggested a lot beforehand).

More stuff, decor, tree types, uses for oleander,rose and lavender. Beer making, additional Meditation paths, random server events, More gorillas, pheasents, pigs and chickens, less spiders bears, and trolls. especially less trolls. more lighing types, different statues, and colossi types, better NPC models or at least animated ones, more animal types period of aggro and non aggro. more furnature and make it more at least realistic acting. more ship types, medicine, a good home for Gary, temporary (once found, nonchargeable and once found and the timer is up regardless of use they disappear and are now refindable) freedom artifacts/trinkets sharks/ aggro water animals. be able to nail your papyrus sheet to a tree or better yet the neighbors door. (PS if you don't know you can use dye now to inscribe it and we can all forget octopus exist) more pilliars, archetectual element objects. Hedges, different looking wall types, even if it's only cosmetic changes to the exact same acting wall/fence.
