Posted August 17, 2012 I can't believe I didn't think of this before...Audio! Even if you have it off in game, disable your audio device or remove your sound card from your system.I was looking up data corruption on network play with core i processors and I found a lot of people having this problem with multiplayer games when using Intel chips. They work perfect single player, and fail multiplayer. Most all of them though were using audio systems based on realtek drivers. If this fixes it, then the problem is in the realtek drivers installed.I use realtek too and have faced this issue on many systems I built and usually keep a known good driver set handy to install on computers or multiplayer games will crash. Posted August 17, 2012 (edited) My system is a Dell that uses onboard Intel video (Intel G45/G43 Express) and audio (Realtek High Definition Audio) based on a realtek driver, so it very likely is a factor in common. I can't remove the onboard sound from the system, though, so is there an alternative driver set available that doesn't cause the problems? The trouble is that I've always used this PC to play Wurm Online with the audio and video it has now, and the particular problem that Shalbrini and I have been reporting has not always been happening. For me, it'd not happened before Spring of this year. Also, I do play a few other MP games that don't have the crashing issue. What is consistant for me in Wurm Online crashing is that every single time the error message shows: java.nio.BufferUnderflowExceptionAny additional ideas based on that, Enki? Posted August 17, 2012 You can try disabling sound in wurm, or disable (not remove) the audio driver in the hardware manager and see if the problem is persistent.
Posted August 17, 2012 Here is the location to look for the Realtek drivers.http://www.realtek.com/downloads/I do not know if you will want the HD or AC'97 codec. I am using the HD codecs myself. Most people use the drivers from their motherboard or laptop manufacturer and that is why Realtek is a common issue. While stable, the drivers you find from them are almost always not as good as the updated drivers directly from Realtek.Update: The Realtek possibility has just been disproven...
Posted August 20, 2012 (edited) These are the same messages I am getting as ShalbiriFailed to open fence 12726021718023 because it doesn't existFailed to open fence 12906409164807 because it doesn't existFailed to open objects and I have even seen it saying destroying such n such because it says it doesn't exist. Almost like it is saying I am going to attack it because it isn't meant to be there when it is.I am getting incorrect spelling as well.I crashed 26 times in 41 minutes. Today alone. Near drove me stupid.I have constant message of refreshing then it is fine.Server disconnects.Logging in after a crash and having nothing render. I am stuck in fast moving clouds and water.other thing that has occurred is when it does log me back in I am auto running and I have to wait til that is sorted and try to steer myself so I don't run off a cliff. t resolves itself after 30 seconds.I have been crashing constantly and like Shal, can run fine for a few hours at times then crash again repeatedly.Open GL error 7 messages. Occasionally. Both my toons crash. My sons pc which is slightly lower spec to me also crashes. His toon also crashes. My son and I thought maybe the map was causing the problem as you update your position. Like the map files are not logging. All my drivers are up to date, I have checked.Tried reverting back to Java 6 as suggested. No luck. Have gone back to Java 7.5.I log in and items have disappeared that should be there. Like a storage box and next time I got back in game it was there.I am getting poor rendering at times. One time one of my buildings had what looked like the wall and floor sunk down when it should have been flat.I run no voice chat on the game even though I should be able to with no issues.I am feeling Shal's desperation and it is miserable to play like this. Not much of a welcome home after a years absence from game.I was so happy when my son said he would come and try Wurm with me but these crashes have put him off from even playing. I have a huge deed that I kept paid for in the year I was gone so I didn't lose it.The game ran excellent a year ago. I love some of the graphic changes however like the crop fields. Posted August 24, 2012 Saytheb, Tamorlane, and Rolf all have some theories on the cause of this.At the moment a possible solution is being tried.Bypass the java cache of the wurm launcher. To do so go to the website and launch the game via the play button or follow these shortcut instructions.Update: One of the testers is still experiencing crashes with the following method so try the Play button on the website instead.Hi,You can be helped. At first we need the directory of the Java web start application. A search for "javaws.exe" on your boot disk should reveal it.It's usually here for 32bit Java:C:\Windows\System32and usually here for 64bit Java:C:\Windows\SysWOW64(this should suit for most installations of not age old Windows, as long as C:\ is your boot disk)We'll call this the "working directory".Now we'll add this working directory to a call to the Java web start app and to the URL of the Wurm client, nicely connected in a command line suitable form.Stable client:[working directory]\javaws.exe http://www.wurmonline.com/client/wurmclient.jnlpUnstable client:[working directory]\javaws.exe http://www.wurmonline.com/client/wurmclient_unstable.jnlpGot it? Connected those strings? Isn't this hard, right?(Hint: It helps to have a simple text editor open for such tasks, for instance NotePad or something more advanced)For homework, here are all the possible valid strings - find out what will do what, and what's the one you want to use ;-)C:\Windows\System32\javaws.exe http://www.wurmonline.com/client/wurmclient.jnlpC:\Windows\System32\javaws.exe http://www.wurmonline.com/client/wurmclient_unstable.jnlpC:\Windows\SysWOW64\javaws.exe http://www.wurmonline.com/client/wurmclient.jnlpC:\Windows\SysWOW64\javaws.exe http://www.wurmonline.com/client/wurmclient_unstable.jnlpWe'll call this the "target".Sounds complicated? You don't understand really? You don't want to bother with all this IT babble? Well - you might play RL card games, too ...But anyways, these following values should be safe in any case:Default working directory:C:\Windows\System32Default target:C:\Windows\System32\javaws.exe http://www.wurmonline.com/client/wurmclient.jnlpNow, right click the desktop, "New" -> "Shortcut".Should an assistant come up and ask you for the location of the element, paste the "target" of your choice shown above, stable or unstable, 32 or 64bit, or the default, as you desire. It will ask you for a name then, well, "Joe", "Xandra" or "Wurm" are nice names, right? Choose one, type it.[OK] now. You're done..No assistant? Don't worry:Right click the newly created shortcut, chose "Properties", and have a look at the window that pops up. Tabs! It should come up with the "Shortcut" tab activated, at "Target" (first white line) paste the according "target" of your choice shown above, stable or unstable, 32 or 64bit, or the default, as you desire.Below, at "Execute in" it's always the matching working directory from above.[OK] now. You're nearly done.Right click the new shortcut again, "rename". Regarding names, "Joe", "Xandra" or "Wurm" are nice names, right? Choose one, type it. [Enter], finished.Isn't this a walk in the park? Now you can start Wurm w/o browser from your desktop (or from wherever you move this shortcut), can utilize a 64bit Java if you have installed one, and as soon as the client is updated you'll have a short auto-download, and the brand new client after this.Crazeee new tech! Praisez Fo for this! And have a good time!
Posted August 25, 2012 (edited) All my errors / client crashes have been from running Wurm Online from the 'Play' button on the website. I've never created a desktop shortcut to bypass it, and have always used the website to launch instead.Addendum:That in itself doesn't bypass the JAVA cache, does it? I know deleting the java cache of the launcher makes it re-download the wurm client jnlp file when I've done it (deleted the cache and launched from the Play button), and it doesn't spend the time to download it when I use the webpage's Play button without deleting the java cache first.Perhaps I'm misunderstanding, though. Posted August 27, 2012 Next time someone encounters this problem, please go to the following site: http://www.visualroute.com.Click on "Live Demo" on the upper right portion of the page. Choose a location that offers quality testing, and then click on "Quality" at the right above the minimap to load a quality test. If an error message comes up, pick a different location from the list box above where the error message is. Wait for the test to load, and click the "Click to start test" button at the upper left of the Java applet. It may appear to freeze/hang at the end of each part of the test, but give it time to finish, as it usually has not actually frozen/hung. Once the test is finished, go under the "Graph" tab and take screenshots of the "Download speed" graph and "Upload speed" graph. Then, go under the "Advanced" tab and take a screenshot of the statistics shown there. Post the screenshots. It's important to do this when the problem is actually occurring, as network/internet conditions can change significantly over time for a variety of reasons. The test is more likely to detect something useful when the problem is occurring than when it's not.
Posted August 27, 2012 I've run every diagnostic that I possibly can, and all point to one issue, which has been submitted for review. It's not on my end, though I cannot speak for the others suffering similar issues. Wireshark logs are a complete trainwreck, heh.
Posted August 28, 2012 (edited) Have you tried using a proxy within Java? It's something that seemed to work with Nubcaek's problem, and although it was difficult trying to login with the proxy, it seems that it worked without any kind of issues. If you further want to pinpoint the fact that it may be a connection issue with the way your computer routes to Wurm's server, that's a rather decent way to check it out. Try picking a proxy somewhere in the USA where it may not particularly route through the same routers. Edited August 28, 2012 by Xallo

Posted September 3, 2012 Wollschaf is going to be looking into this issue this week. We have sent him all the info we have collected thus far.
Posted September 3, 2012 Another user posted the same problem I've been having in a new thread.http://forum.wurmonline.com/index.php?/topic/66417-null-tile-errors/If there are more than one issues being mixed in this thread, perhaps they could be addressed seperately. But the other thread is definitely linked to the issue I've been having that I and others first posted within this thread. Posted September 5, 2012 (edited) With that problem have lag and breaking rules(have oficial warning) when my horse stucked in fences and closed gates(look like opened and bigger size) and i fell down trough it and i'm trying unstuck it bashing the walls. All my actions on that structures write in my logs with grammatic errors and have some crashes. After it i was hate the wurm, but then cool down my head and was try to kill that problem and i do it for me.As i'm understand that errors mean different protocols clients-server or wrong packet structures but i don't know reason why this happened. No that problem for me after doing somethings changes in java settings but i think it temporary solution:1 security->Mixed code->Disable verification2 Java network settings->General connection (uses proxy work too but no "use browser settings")3 clear java temporary internet files, include app filesHave 5 days of stability gamingupd: This method was help one of my villager who have crashes every 5-10 mins, now she have clear java error sometimes but more stability gaming( about 2-3hours) Edited September 5, 2012 by kazui
Posted September 6, 2012 My crashes have stopped, however I am getting numerous open GL error 7 crashes. It all has to be related somehow??
Posted September 6, 2012 (edited) My Wurm Online play has been more stable the past few days as well. Not perfect, but that could perhaps just be a few random issues. But now, I'm generally able to play without the continuous client crashes there were happening at one point.Waiting to see if the stable gameplay holds over a longer period of time before I declare it solved, though. Posted September 6, 2012 (edited) We'll you say it's cleared up but im having a very similar problem now. Common and instentaneous crashes. Posted September 6, 2012 (edited) BortekYou have crash with other reason - low memory on computer and/or client leaked memory.try other method - allocate more memory to java:Change your Java Runtime parametrsWrite the string as "-Xincgc -Xmx2048m" in Java control panel->Java tab->view..button->runtime parametrs tabwithout "" and change 2048 to your memory value for java(depend how much RAM you have). Not use full amount system memory and use only round values (512m, 1024m, 1536m, etc or 1G, 2G, etc) Edited September 7, 2012 by kazui

Posted September 7, 2012 (edited) Well, it worked for a while the otherday. Now I crash within seconds of logging in though. With no error log. I used 3072 for the variable in the perameters.Edit: It also appears that the Java control panel is not saving my parameters, when I go back to the tab the parameters space is blank again. Posted September 8, 2012 (edited) Bortekneed look to your crash log (it can be different)if "not saving" mean you push "Ok" button instead "apply" in main Java settings (some java versions)or have few java versions installed on one system or incorrect installed java.It only my experience, if somebody can correct me,please do it. Posted September 8, 2012 (edited) UPDATE:The problem that others have reported where there are signs of data corruption (spikes of earth/water reaching to the sky on a single grid tile, apparent memory or datastream corruptions that result in an apparent misspelled/alterred item/channel name on the UI screen, etc) that in the end result in a client crash with the error of:==== CLIENT CRASH ======Unexpected crash while playingjava.nio.BufferUnderflowException is still occuring, just perhaps less frequently. I'd really hoped it'd been solved but regrettably it's not over. Edited September 8, 2012 by Tristanc
Posted September 8, 2012 I had one client crash yesterday and numerous open GL error 7 crashes.
